- Do you feel like you’re trying to improve in your watercolor practice but feel like just something isn’t working? In this tutorial I’m sharing with you 3 MAJOR tips that have helped me improve so quickly as a watercolor artist that I wish I would have learned sooner. I hope they help you!
Thanks for the tips. When one is right-handed like you, it is much more convenient to have the palett and water on the right
It's an individual preference. I do better with my palette on the opposite side of my painting hand.
Thank you for your time and reply. To me "on the right" was just so obvious. But you're right, we all have our preferences. Good luck to you 👍. Greetings from Denmark ⚘
interesting to hear! I personally find the palette to get in my way on the right, so the left is just my personal preference! I know you definitely have less of a risk of getting unwanted water or paint on your paper if you’re right handed and have the palette on the right!
@@emmarussellstudio I didn't notice I was more interested in your great tips 👍🏾
I am right handed. If I put the water on the left of my work, the odds are greater that I would drip water on my work as my hand crosses over🤪
You might want to start by showing what a color wheel is. Many beginners don't know what it is or how it works.
Hello! I actually already have a full video dedicated to that. You can check it out 😁
I agree- the color wheel was a huge suggestion so it should at least be in the picture- show on the color wheel why you mixed those colors. Although you say you have a video dedicated to the color wheel… it’s not helpful at this moment. Your title is “3 tips to paint quicker” and you said the color wheel was critical. Too much of this video wasn’t relatable - you used the words but the follow thru was lacking seriously. You should watch your video. Too disjointed. Sorry- the title was great but the video was far from showing any part of that!
Hi. I didnt find that you talked too long st the beginning at all! What universe sm I in, lol. Thanks for the tips. I don’t do much florals alone ( i add them to my portraits, snd forest scenes ) but your still find your florals cute
Hey thanks so much!
Can you expound on how you’d use this in a painting? Or do you have an example where you used these techniques? I’m so visual! Thanks!
Hi Mary! Yes! I actually have a composition tutorial where we paint florals in one of these shapes. I also have an opacity tutorial! This is the composition one th-cam.com/video/IN4nLOtPVRI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Z6n0IPhdx5wzeu2l hope you enjoy (:
Not to be picky but the way you hold your brush is so tight not great for painting loose, like I like too. You are not holding a pen….
@@sharonmorelli6056 doesn’t feel tight to me! Sometimes looks are deceiving 😁
Where’s the 3rd tip please, thanks!
At 10:25, changing your opacity 😌
@@emmarussellstudio Thank you!
I really like your mixing pallette with all of the wells. Where is it from??
Hi! Thanks so much it’s so great. The Winsor and Newton one is amzn.to/3wNNIEy and the rose one doesn’t seem to be available anymore but here’s a similar one! amzn.to/3Ku4USp Not sure which one you meant!
Yes it is the Imitation Rose Porcelain Pallette. Very cool!! I like the ability to dilute watercolor blends by adding water.
Thx 4 info.
Bit of a strange comment from me - what is the brand and name of those shelves behind you please
Not strange at all! I think they were here when we moved in, but I’ll check and see if I can find where they’re from for you! They’re very handy and easy to take apart/ take a shelf off of.
Looks like they’re from Amazon!

I think the first color you put down was cadmium red
Perhaps this video would more honestly be titled "Paint some flowers, have a nice day!" That might appeal to a wider audience. There's no shortage of "how to paint" and "demo" videos by vey accomplished (and very naive) painters, but I have yet to see one on "why painting is fun for me" or "what I like about painting".
Thanks but quite a lot of talk before the main content comes..maybe tighter editing would help
Noted!
It took too long to get to the quick tips, short and sweet with clarity would have been more helpful! I don’t think I saw tip 3?
the purpose of this video was to teach watercolor tips, after learning, then you can improve quickly (: you’ll find the 3rd tip at about 10:25!
People are so critical here in your comments!. Im so sorry! You seem so nice. Why are people expecting perfection? I want to start a you tube channel but so much criticism would be discouraging
I’ve learned to just laugh when people comment unkind things. Gotta just brush it off and let go. I think if you want to start a TH-cam channel then do it! Don’t let the fear of what other people think hold you back!
Perhaps comments should be viewed as opinions and not criticizing. Just saying!
Good grief! It isn't "noo-in!" It's "Newton!" Pronounce the "T"!
I do pronounce the “t” my voice just tends to fall at that point in the word. Thanks so much though 😊
@kathleenstoin671 do yourself a favor, put on the closed captions. YOU can't hear. She did say Windsor NEWTON.....and I can't hear a damn thing. Stop being so mean to someone who is giving free lessons or just leave...
Jesus! How ridiculous for anyone to bitch about something so trivial.
She used a glottal stop for the t. Nothing wrong with that😊
Chill!
