This was such a detailed explanation that was helpful in so many ways. Not just for this pattern but with sewing strips together, ironing, cutting and sewing. Really appreciated tip on using square ruler without having to purchase triangle ruler. Will be making a quilt with this design.❤️
I've been looking for a miter quilt pattern that didn't scare me too much to try it. I think this method is perfect for my new grandfather's quilt. Thank you so much for the tutorial!
Oh My! If I weren't on bed rest I would be pulling out those Jelly Rolls I have, yes, I have two full Jelly Rolls. I keep buying the sale of the day from M.S.Q.C. So I have layer cakes and charm squares, all of which only cost a few dollars. So as soon as I'm out of this bed I'm straight to my sewing machine. Laura you make my suffering so much less because of you're wonderful tutorials, and I think you're Fxxxx Great!!!!!
OMGoodness, do I EVER have "gobs" of jelly rolls, fat quarters, charms and layer cakes plus fabric!! I am going to make this quilt. Thank you so much for showing us quilt. You are wonderful to listen to, teaching me, and concise!! You explain everything to me so well. I bet others think the same thing. Please don't ever stop!!! Peace and blessings, Vicki
Thank you so much for sharing your time and experience with us!!.. You are an amazing teacher and I love your common sense approach... You are inspiring and make it so easy to understand!.. I crochet... I knit.. I sew.. and other needle arts.. but I have never quilted and I have been fascinated and wanting to try.. I have watched tons of tutorials and I have been awed by some of the amazing artistry I have seen.. but sometimes it has seemed a little overwhelming or intimidating.. your a treasure...XOXO
Laura you are a fantastic teacher. I love how you show every step and the outcome is beautiful. Love your fabrics. Thank you for all of your time and inspiration you give each of us.
You just explained in a very easy way how to correctly match all those seams. I didn't know how I was stretching the bias with my pressing method. Thank you. I love how you explain the why of doing a sewing step. Thanks again.
3:50, I sew in my dining room so instead of folding my strips over a chair I used a clothes hanger. It kept everything nice and tidy, yet portable. ❤🌅🌵
Hello, Laura! This is a very handy trick! The quilt looks beautiful and it seems easy to make. Thank you for sharing! You are such a good teacher! Have a good day.
Love the ruler tips! I've been wanting to make one of these quilts, now it will be sew much easier☺ I might even cut the jelly roll strips in half first to have more different patterned squares! TYFS!!❤
I love this pattern. I made one for a couple last year for their first baby. It was larger than a crib size, but smaller than a throw. I figured they could use it as the baby got older. They have used it once, on the grass in a park last summer. I still love the pattern and plan to use it again. Your colors are lovely!
Well I always shied from doing patch work, but you make it look easy, I will try to do this soon....thank you for this nice way to do it. And you illustrate it very well....🌹❤️🌹❤️🇵🇹
Very nice! I’ve seen one made withe continuous strip. Then connect the ends over and over! I like yours better!,,, also I just tried your faux binding . Sewing from the back to front. I didn’t have enough material on the front for the miter corner. I got to try again, I hate hand sewing binders!! 😎
Love the fabric!! I don’t think I caught the name of it. I have 2 jelly rolls to use, I just dread quilting a quilt on a domestic machine. Thanks for sharing! 💜
WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR WOODEN PRESSING WAND PLEASE???? TYI HAVE YOU EVER DONE A BRAID QUILT?? IF SO CAN YOU GUIDE ME TO THE VIDEO YOU DID??? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME FRANKI
Laura, you are a genius! Perfect instructions & I'm drooling over your color choices...were these strips packaged together or did you make them with yardage?
I'm sorry but I've had several goes at this and it just doesn't work for me. when I sew the two strips together, top and bottom, face to face, I end up with a long strip 4.5 inches deep. Then I put the triangular ruler on, with the tip at the top of the strips, amd cut out a triangle, I get 4.5 triangles. Looking at the tutorial and counting the inches across the bottom of the triangle I get (or it looks like) 9inches. I cant see how this works with the tip of the triangle ruler at the top of the 4.5 strips ? can anyone clarify this for me please. ?
Striking color for you. Also love the neat detail in the front. I do like the video too. Very good to point out how not to warp your strips, and make best use of the fabric.
Thank you for demonstrating that it IS POSSIBLE to sew jelly roll strips and not have a wave in the middle! I have no problems with my strip sets, I do them similar to you. But some "FAT" sites and others tell everyone that you get a wavy middle when sewing.. which makes me crazy that they say to waste fabric ... because they can't iron correctly.
+Livinnpjs - I laughed when I read your comment - I knew after the first sentence what else you were going to say. (It makes me crazy too.:-) But keep in mind she's a less-experienced sewist than Laura. Additionally, she owns a good sized fabric store. So she probably hasn't needed or seen the advantages of being economical with her fabric, or come to realize there's more satisfaction in pressing her strips with a little more care. The end results are certainly worth the extra time it takes.
Hi, Shirley for some reason I can not find your comment about the placemat. I will answer it here and please let me know that you did get it. It was 21" yours could have been more if you cut a longer blade. You can see 10:46 the difference between my two.
SewVeryEasy Hi Laura, my length was 8”, so yes that would it. I love the pattern, I’m doing it with a practice fabric and a flat polyester batting. I have not made placemats before and I use Hobbs batting for quilts. What kind of batting do you find best for placemats, I want to make sets of these for Christmas. Thank you so much for the tutorial.
Poly can melt! So be careful as to what you are putting on it...no hot pots. I would recommend a Cotton blend like Hobbs. You can pre-shrink it first, to keep the placemats flat.
This was such a detailed explanation that was helpful in so many ways. Not just for this pattern but with sewing strips together, ironing, cutting and sewing. Really appreciated tip on using square ruler without having to purchase triangle ruler. Will be making a quilt with this design.❤️
Beautiful quilt - love the colors you used!

Do you need to wash the rollsbefore you start?
It is very hard to wash them. So in this case I do not:)
I love the purple top you're wearing - hoping you've made it and will share the name/number of the pattern :)
thank you and it was store bought!

But some "FAT" sites and others tell everyone that you get a wavy middle when sewing.. which makes me crazy that they say to waste fabric ... because they can't iron correctly.
Yes, if you iron your fabrics the way she did with the ruler you won't get that bend. Just treat the fabric carefully.
I just learnt I’ve been ironing incorrectly.

Sound on this video is poor even with my speaker at full. Otherwise it's a great video.
A nightmare to match all those seams, no thank you hahaha
