    This is such a treasure trove of learning - your learning shared so generously to facilitate our learning. After engaging with your lesson we have new insights into composition - fugue and counterpoint, situated in historical context, including Bach’s and his family’s. You open our eyes to Bach’s intentions as to performance. And throughout convey such enthusiasm for wonderful, sophisticated music.

    Thank you Sally for the fascinating journey into this piece. I totally missed so many aspects of it when I played it years ago such as the circle of 5ths!
    I always appreciate the color structural analysis that goes in the package. I’ve found it invaluable in learning pieces.
    Your hard work is greatly appreciated

      Hi Gina! Thank you so much for your wonderful and very appreciated words! I'm so happy to hear that the lesson brought forward some details that you had not previously known. I was fascinated when I realized that this invention was a Fugue, and with all of the imagination that went into this compact 22 measure piece. You are right that the charts, and especially the Color Structural Analysis, involve much hard work. I am grateful to hear that these labors of love are so helpful in learning the piece! You are a kind and generous person, and this is reflected in your own playing and teaching. 🎹💕

    Quite wonderful Sally, thank you. It's funny, really, that an awful lot of people don't really know that Bach's music is really all about "dance". They tend to think him inaccessible and "serious".

    • @SallyChristianMusic
      @SallyChristianMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello AntPDC, thank you for your warm and generous words! You are right that so much of Bach's music is dance music. The Partitas and the English and French Suites are comprised of different types of dances. In the Goldberg Variations, every third variation is also a dance movement. Best wishes to you, with your music, and your photography. :-)

      @@SallyChristianMusic And indeed Bach's magnum opus: The Well-Tempered Clavier - even his B minor Mass. You are highly under-appreciated in this realm if I may say so Sally. Thank you for your comment and request for the Bach C minor Fugue, WTC I. You are right, the first four notes and rhythms of the subjects for these two pieces are identical! I would love to make a chart and tutorial for the C minor Prelude & Fugue. I've added this to my queue of requests and hope to start it after finishing a large backlog of on-going projects. The charts and tutorials are labors of love and take a great deal of time, practicing, and thinking to make. No two are alike. As I remind myself: "Everything in right time!" Best wishes to you. 🎶

    Sally, your series of videos on Bach's inventions are really the best on the internet. Thank you so much for producing them. Do you recommend an order to learning the inventions? I have learned #8 in F major and #14 in Bb major. Even these 'simpler' keys modulate into other keys, so I am wondering what you think about that. Did Bach intend for them to be learned in numerical order?

    • @SallyChristianMusic
      @SallyChristianMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Las Vegas Guitar / Mark, thank you so much for your very kind and generous words! I'm so glad you are enjoying these videos on the Bach Inventions! In the recent lessons I gave for Inventions No. 7 and No. 15, I talk about the order that the inventions were arranged for the first version of 1720, The Clavier Büchlein, and the subsequent official Autograph of 1723. It is thought that the order of the 1720 version is the order Bach intended for them to be learned: C Major, D minor, E minor, F Major, G Major, A minor, B minor, Bb Major, A Major, G minor, F minor, E Major, Eb Major, D Major, and C minor. All of the inventions modulate to different keys. When I teach these, I usually have a student start with the C Major, the D minor, and the F Major. I find that the Eb Major and the Bb Major are more technically challenging to play cleanly and evenly and would not recommend starting with these. It’s wonderful that you are working on a few of these amazing inventions, and I encourage you to learn a few more in the coming years. My approach is always to learn the pieces that one really resonates with. All best wishes to you and with your music! 🎶

    It's too staccato in my opinion...
    And the last note in a mordent should be a bit longer than the first 2 notes
    (Like let's say there's a mordent on a quarter note it should be played as two 16th notes and an 8th note)
    Thats just my opinion tho, afterall the beauty of music is that everyone has a different view/approach to it

      Im talking about your interpretation in the beginning

    • @AntPDC
      @AntPDC 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'd agree - a bit too stabby, subjectively. Still, Bach didn't give us much in terms of his score annotations, as Lenny Bernstein is fond of pointing out.

    • @joeblue6325
      @joeblue6325 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll agree - but I think it's may be being played in that style on the wrong type of keyboard - perhaps more preferably played this way on a harpsichord or a more zingy-sounding* piano.
