    Learning this now and it’s my favorite among all 15 inventions. The lightness of G major does appear in many later works (e.g., Bach’s French Suite 5, Mozart’s sonata K283, Beethoven’s 4th concerto) but this is probably the easiest one to learn first. Also I think this piece leaves a lot of room for the player’s choice of dynamics, phrasing and articulation, hence it’s always fun to play. Thanks a lot for the tutorial!

      Hello Yang, thank you for your kind words about this tutorial! I agree this piece has a lovely and light character, and lends itself to many choices of phrasings and articulation. Bach also used G Major for his Goldberg Variations. I wish you all the best playing this wonderful G Major Invention. It is definitely fun to play! 🎵

      Hello Peter / Herr Lorenz! Vielen Dank, ... thank you so much for your beautiful and thoughtful comment! I really appreciate you choosing the words "transparent and deep" to describe my explanations about this music. 💫 FYI: My beloved teacher was also Herr Lorenz! (Philip Lorenz). One of his many contributions was having assisted Claudio Arrau in a ten-year project editing the 32 Beethoven Piano Sonatas for Edition Peters. 🎶 Sending you my best wishes and blessings. Con bendiciones y mis mejores deseos para usted.

    Hi Sally,
    This is another gem, posted right on time! I found it extremely useful to watch your performance and lesson while following along on the Color Structural Analysis. You detect so many of Bach's patterns that I am certain I would not have found them. When you point them out, it emphasizes Bach's genius and your perceptive abilities.
    I appreciate your guidance on trills. I've never thought about using fingers 1 and 3; it's always been 1 and 2 for me.
    I haven't heard of anyone associating contrary motion to Covid-19, but I agree Covid-19 feels like contrary motion.
    Thanks for all your hard work. A lot of us are benefiting!!

      Hi Roger, thank you for your thoughtful and generous words! It means so much to me to know that you are benefitting from the tutorials and the charts. I love finding Bach’s patterns and seeing his great mind and logic behind every note! I am also so happy you are using the CSA as you follow the lesson. I very much appreciate your support and acknowledgement regarding the work that goes into these charts and lessons. 🙏I'm glad the advise on the trills will be helpful, and I hope you enjoy every day of your practicing as you learn this delightful piece!

    Dear Sally, I am currently reading a friend's thesis on "J: S Bach". It is fascinating to UNDERSTAND that an artist like him is dedicated to discovering all the possibilities that musical writing can offer, and that during this research he finds wonderful harmonies ........ or is it the harmonies that have found BACH? "Being is, in non-being it is not". Parmenides said. Hi Sally ,.

      @SallyChristianMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Spadiu, it is very nice to hear from you. Thank you for your thought-provoking words about the "harmonies finding Bach." This is well said! I do agree that unlocking all the musical possibilites is what Bach has given us with his genius. For those of us learning and teaching these masterpieces, the joy is indeed in the discoveries!

    • @SallyChristianMusic

      Hello Spadiu, thank you for your second comment that unfortunately never appeared here with the other public comments. It happens from time to time that a comment is sent to my emails but not to the video comments section. I was so inspired by your words that I felt they would be a contribution for others to also read and ponder. 💫Here is your comment verbatim:
      "I have often thought: there is a close relationship between the passion for music and the "sacred fire" that calls you to "these certain things". The human genius expresses with music things that man himself ignores. And he would never dream of reaching them."

      Hi Gina, how great it is to hear from you, and thank you for your wonderful words! Yes, "Jesu" for sure. The long trills are not easy. Over time they will settle naturally into the fingers, hands, and arms. I'm glad you like the 3 note phrasing. I've also come to like 9 note phrasings for this invention. With Bach we have many valid tempi and phrasing options for our interpretations! 🎶 Sending you blessings, joy with your practicing, and wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving! 💫

    I love your channel !! I have 4 questions, but I’ll ask them one at a time. So as not to cause to much work…Can you help me understand musically, what is going on, in the 4th movement of Chopin’s piano sonata No. 2 ?

    • @SallyChristianMusic
      @SallyChristianMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello marksletters, thank you for your enthusiastic and much appreciated words about my channel! Regarding what is going on musically with this piece, I cannot answer you about the musical analysis of any advanced piece in words, alone. My explanation would be in the form of a tutorial video using my own New Layout Chart engraving of the piece. While short in length, the Chopin Sonata No. 2 last movement would be an enormous undertaking to chart, get fluently in my fingers, and then analyze in a video. Do you have questions on some of Chopin's shorter and more moderately difficult works that I might consider for future teaching videos?

    I am studying Bachs music.
    Currently I am interested in harmonic analysis. I am trying to find a system, a pattern, a code, a mathematical formula of his typical and characteristic chord progressions.
    Could you please help me in this case?
    I did not find any typical Bach harmony system, because it depends on melody or on the whole nature of peace. Do you agree wirh that??
    I would be very thanful, if you help me.
    Thank you very much for these videos.
    Zurab Bach.

    • @SallyChristianMusic
      @SallyChristianMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Zurab, thank you for your thought provoking question, and for your much appreciated words about these videos. I have often wondered if there is a pattern or formula that Bach uses for his chord progressions and harmonic structures. With the intensive work and analyses I have been doing through the charts and teaching videos, I have found that while there are certainly predictable patterns and similarities, there are enough unique differences in each one that prove just how "inventive" Bach is with his 15 Two and Three-Part Inventions. I agree with you that there is not one formula that he uses, but endless variations depending upon the content and character of each piece. I wish the best to you with your own wonderful exploration of Bach's music! 💫

    • @ZBCH3
      @ZBCH3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SallyChristianMusic thank you for your answer. I appreciate that.
      And what are these certainly predictable patterns and similarities?
      Sincerely

    • @SallyChristianMusic
      @SallyChristianMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZBCH3 Hello Zurab, the similarities I am talking about are with the overall structure of the piece, the themes, key areas, and sections based on complete musical phrases. These are not always easy to see in the format of traditional music you will find in any other edition. I only discover these elements when I make the Color Structural Analysis that I show when giving the tutorial. You will see visually with the labels and color coding I have marked in great detail in this pdf document the elements that Bach uses in all of his 15 Two-Part Inventions. This pdf is part of the New Layout Chart package that is available for purchase as a digital download from my website.
      Here are a few of the similarities:
      Main Subject in the Tonic key area stated first with one voice and then repeated immediately for the second voice as an imitation in the Tonic or the Dominant key area.
      Sequences introduced at this point to develop fragments of the initial thematic material that ultimately modulates to a new key area, often the Dominant or the Relative Major or minor key.
      This alternating pattern of Subject entries, imitations and Sequences leads to a culminating place in the piece where Bach will give us a feature unique to each invention, often built on the Circle of 5ths, or a Stretto-like passage with overlapping Subject entries.
      Finally, we return to the home Tonic key area with final Subject entries, and a closing Cadence.
      As far as specific chordal progressions, it is best to watch the entire lesson to see these explained in further detail. I hope this helps you with your own analysis, and best wishes to you.

    • @ZBCH3
      @ZBCH3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SallyChristianMusic Thank you very much for your long text. Thank you for your time. I already know about these similarities and main structure, but I asked you , because I was interested, how you answer. I still want to figure out the chordal progressions. Of course I know, what principals he uses in progressions. These are main functions in fifth-realtion(tonic, dominant, subdominant) and subfunctions in third -realtion(relative tonic, relativ dominant, relativ subdominant or also paralells). This is, what I find in every piece of Bach and other composers of tonal music. I can not find out more. I still try to find the bach chord progressions, but I think, there is no :(
