It really was a brilliant trailer and choice of song. It worked on so many levels and still managed to be a subliminal reminder/joke that Marvel is part of the Disney Empire.
I remember when I saw the trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp and I thought the music was pretty good so I looked into it and found out it was a song called "Ants Invasion" by Adam and the Ants. Pure genius.
2:43 - Kylo Ren leads a death cult of Ewoks Actual movie - Kylo Ren "dies" (from a certain point of view) on a moon of Endor. This video had it right the whole time, but covered it in a joke!
Age of ultron trailer score was briliant. Ultron was a computer program bound by wires and cables (strings) and then he got his own body, just like pinochio- so no more strings.
durim187 Fun fact: Disney influences their properties like Marvel, to use easily recognizable Disney references and that "No strings on me" in Age of Ultron is a perfect example of that.

the only difference is that Bohemian Rhapsody, despite being an absolute mess (actually scratch that, because it's a mess) was an absolute bop and suicide squad? uhhhh.... it looks cool?
Two Steps From Hell is actually an amazing group. Several of their compositions have made it to the Mass Effect trilogy cinematic trailers. They produce some high quality stuff.
I’m pretty sure it was Leia’s theme.. when the trailer used it, I took it as a tribute to Carrie Fisher being in the series still. Certainly not Luke’s theme though.
Hard Poor Corn The force theme plays later on the trailer, listen: 3:08 It starts off with Leia’s theme though, but the guy clearly knows it since he posted an image of it at around 1:53. He says that the trailer is composed of various Star Wars themes, but not _the_ Star Wars theme (1:43).
@@naingmon That one was from the "The Force Awakens" trailer that he used to contrast. He said, "But there are just elements of other Star Wars that just--I don't know--they don't really sound exactly like the maestro himself. Like, take the Force Awakens trailer right here, where we hear the Force theme (or Binary Sunset)." That's at 2:56 -- right before 3:08 . He probably just misspoke when he was referencing the actual Rise of Skywalker trailer's soundtrack.
I think it's pretty obvious that it's Kylo in the ship... Yes, the main antagonist of the sequel trilogy is going to simply shoot at one of the main protagonists, because that's incredibly dramatic and makes for a good story.
@@jinxie712 I dunno, Sideways strikes me as a pretty smart guy. I've watched most of his videos and he knows what he's talking about, and has a pretty big passion for films and storytelling in general. He also likes to be sarcastic a lot. @@GrandElemental Why is that sad? If used right it can and will sound awesome and very modern without breaking any rules to how trailer music these days should sound like.. One can argue that we have too many trailers with low effort hybrid-orchestral sound

With the lord of the rings, Howard Shore had to write and compose music to an incomplete movie. Scenes hadn't even been filmed yet and he had already written scores, hoping they'd tie in okay. It turned out to be a masterpiece.
No better film composer than Howard Shore or score than LOTR. Amazing development and interweaving, and not a bit of cheating in the themes' composition (although PJ decided to cheat with the music a couple times).
@@rkwatchauralnautsjediparty7303 I would argue that *overall* John Williams is better, but for a single score LotR *definitely* takes the cake. I simply can't think of enough of Howard Shore's other work to call him the absolute best. Whereas everyone can identify at *least* a handful of Williams.
He was obviously a book fan. A lot of the tracks have the exact same titles as the book chapters. ("The Treason of Isengard," "The Breaking of the Fellowship," etc.) The movie may not have been finished, but he knew the story and the characters well enough that he could work around that.

That "To the Stars" song from _Dragonheart_ has also been reused a lot, but I can't think of a specific example. I also distinctly remember a trailer for _I, Robot_ which used the song from _The Matrix Revolutions_ when Neo fights Smith in the rain. There's also that "Adagio in D Minor" song from _Sunshine_ which has been used a lot, most recently in _Wonder Woman 1984._ "On the Nature of Daylight" by Max Richter has appeared in a few movies, including _Arrival_ and _Shutter Island._ One of the trailers for _The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers_ used "Requiem for a Dream" which was, of course, composed for the movie _Requiem for a Dream._
Oh the dragonheart theme was used in a trailer for the animated Mulan! the trailer was on one of my 90s Disney VHSs and I heard it over and over again, and then years later I was watching dragon heart for the first time and almost fell out of my chair when I heard it. Another one that crops up a lot is the instrumental version of 'what's this?' from The Nightmare before Christmas, it has played in several whimsical Christmas themed movie trailers
I listen to the Pyre soundtrack every day! Every Triumvirate (each group of exiles) has their own music theme! I used to listen to Bastion’s soundtrack just as much, and Transistor is also great
I spent years exclaiming “It’s that song they use in all the trailers! No I don’t know which ones, just... trailers!” to bewildered friends and family before I finally decided to track down My Name is Lincoln. I was on the edge of my seat hoping you’d mention it! And incidentally, I’m pretty sure the main reason it keeps getting used is because it slaps.

It's like with fan music videos. When I discover a new song through one of these, I will forever associate them with the franchise which was the video for.
I can explain the use of Hurt in Logan's trailer. Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt was recorded relatively close to his death, and many believe his version of the song is reflective of his own life given the song's subject matter. Many, myself included, believed the song was basically spoiling the movie by saying SPOILER ALERT Wolvie dies in this movie after some self reflection. EDIT: Also, why no mention that time Warner Bros. used a portion of The Bridge of Khazad Dum from Lord of the Rings for the trailer of Man of Steel? I remember people making a big deal about it when the trailer dropped.
the lyrics just match up well with logans story. ' everyone i know goes away in the end" because of wolverines healing factor he has lived for so long and can essentially reheal from even death itself when he was younger everyone he has ever loved he has had to watch go away in the end. his 'empire of dirt' refers to wolverine ending up after all he has been through with just another grave stone surrounded by dirt to leave behind to his daughter after all the humans and mutants he has killed in wars and battles over his life and has nothing left to show for it. 'i focus on the pain, the only thing that's real' essetially referring to how much of logans past was never a memory but lost in his mind and the only thing real to him is the pain he currently feels and always will feel that reminds him despite no memory of living up to a certain point he is in fact real. 'the needle tears a hole, the old familiar sting' obviously not needles but can refer to wolverines giant metal claws that peirce his skin everytime he uses them and it has become the pain familiar with him over his life as he mentioned to rouge it hurts every single time he does it. I could not have imagined a better fitting song for that trailer to encapsulate Wolverine's journey
I can understand your pov, but it personally really bothered me that they took her theme and visually (re)associated it with characters mostly unrelated to her and a trilogy that wasn't "her" story (the way the original trilogy was her, Luke and Han's story). It felt like a slap in the face, that they took that from her and recycled it. They didn't do that to the others (aside from, weirdly enough, the ewoks). I also get, though, that her theme is the most gentle/ nostalgic sounding of the main instantly-recognizable themes, and if they wanted to play on that, they had limited recycleable options. But -- still, it was recycling. It was not only taking from the individuality of Leia's story-elements (and really, recycling Carrie's character's theme isn't a charming tribute, imo), and not only a blatant attempt to tug on my wallet through my heart, but it was also just... effing *lazy* of them. It's quite likely the last SW movie, moviemakers -- put some effort into it! Into at least the trailer, for fricks' sake... y'know?
@@iprobablyforgotsomething it was all about nostalgia. I didn't like the movie, I think it's worst than episode 1 and 2, but it's ok. But I am really disappointed with the soundtrack. And they just ignores all the meanings behind it, recycling everything.

Video: Did anybody else hear the new Star Wars trailer? [plays trailer] Me: That wasn't the music on the trailer. Video: BUT THIS WASN'T THE ACTUAL TRAILER MUSIC!
Right? One of the most trending trailers around and he thought we wouldn't notice he changed the music drastically? "Aha! I tricked you! That wasn't the music in the trailer!"....Umm, we know. Not to mention that the music in the trailer is fucking amazing. Haven't heard a single complaint until this guy.
I've only seen the new Star Wars trailer once in theater when I was waiting for Endgame to start. I was talking to my family at the time so I was very distracted but even I remember that the music was different. I can't imagine anyone who's seen the trailer at least once not noticing the change in music.
Here's the conversation that happened, so people stop theorizing reasons: "Hey, we want to use Leia's theme somewhere in the trailer" "Cool, but it's kind of a love theme and we don't have any lovey-dovey bits in this one" "Can you make it sound more epic?" "Sure man" "Sweet, thanks"
Something I just noticed, but why does Kylo Ren’s light saber sometimes work like a sword, but other times like a baseball bat? On the trailer, he strikes a guy with his saber, but it like picks the victim up instead of cutting straight through him.
The new films have a lot of lightsaber baseball batting. There's a scene where Rey just starts swinging her saber around with no precision, as epic music plays, but it just looks like she's getting ready to step up to the plate.
to be fair there are scenes in the other six movies where the lightsabers work more like a bat than a sword, leading to some theories about lightsabers technically having a flat edge that we can't see bc they're so damn bright (and the darksaber looks the way it does bc it's just less bright than the rest and/or dipping into the UV spectrum) and more experienced wielders (vader, qui-gon, yoda) would be better at utilizing the sharp vs flat edges to their advantage, while less experienced wielders (luke, young obi-wan, rey and kylo ig) are generally still learning, and therefore more likely to just hit someone/something with the flat side of the blade without intending to. obviously, because lightsabers are still so hot, the flat side's still gonna do some good damage, but it's not gonna cut through everything like butter the same way the sharp edges will. this is of course entirely up to the person whether or not they choose to incorporate this into their personal canon, and it's probably not actually true canon, but i think it fits well into what we see on-screen.
@@harmless_spider Okay, but he hits a guy in the trailer in the waist hard enough to pick him up off his feet and send him to the ground. Obi-Wan hit Maul in the same place and it sliced him perfectly in half.
That's what I was thinking of! I kept hoping he would use that as an example, especially since a lot of people loved that trailer and didn't even know that the song was from LOTR

This trailer was very clearly a tribute to Leia/ Carrie Fisher. I'm not sure using this trailer to get your point across was a good idea. Could have easily used sonic the hedgehog or something that makes more sense.
You guys missed the point. He clearly knows it's Leia'a theme. His point isn't that it's not an original piece; it's that you associate that piece with something nostalgic and it manipulates you into feeling nostalgic watching the trailer
It is Leia's theme, that was known and shown at around 1:45 (I think) when he showed the breakdown someone did of the themes in the trailer. Leia's theme playing was clearly significant and intentional. The very end of the trailer, however, was a combination of the latin theme of death, kylo ren's theme, and the ewoks' themes, which don't have any signifacance together, just sound nostalgic. Yes, the pieces were original to the franchise, but kind of just combined to create a feeling of Star Wars-y nostalgia. That's why he goes through examples of movies who steal music from other movies to convey nostalgic emotion, or use stock music to convey a general emotion. These are all ways of how trailer scores are created to "trick" us, or make us feel something. At least I think, that's how I took it.
This tactic is also used in pop music. Some songs use the first measure of an older song to get people's attention. For example, Pitbull's "Feel this Moment" uses an iconic tune from a-ha's "Take on me" about 30 seconds into it.
As a trailer music composer i can say: It´s all about being creative and doing stuff that kinda noone heard before. (Sorry for my english) First of all trailers are composed and produced a bit differently than movie scores because you have to follow a structure most of the time. You have to know where to place edit points for the editor so he can change and combine the cue with other SFX or tracks. Moreover the music has to be massive but simple in many cases so there´s a place for dialogue on top of it which isn´t always that important in music for films. Another thing is that the trailer genre is a huge thing itself. Many people watch trailers nowadays because they enjoy them as much as watching a movie. Every production studio wants to create something special and new to entertain and build up a hype. if they just take the music as it is from the movies it wouldn´t fit, it wouldn´t be so polished and massive with all those fx and it wouldn´t deliver such a hype. I´m not saying trailer music is better than movie scores but it´s the same with cars: You can drive with a twingo through a desert but it makes more sense to use an offroad vehicle. If trailer music would be used in movies you´d get a headache after an hour because of all the impact sounds, booms, hits, swooshes etc. Another point is "time": composers who get a so called "custom job" for creating music for a movie studio only have a very small amount of time for creating a new cue/cover/remix. I was involved in a pitch for (i´m not allowed to say it yet hehe) but i had only 24 hours to create a cue. Sometimes it´s just 12 or even 8h. And i´m talking about composing AND mixing AND mastering. Then those supervisors compare it with other cues which are written in parallel by other composers and if you´re lucky enough they will take your version. I think because of the time pressure noone has that much time to think about every single note in a composition. You don´t even write while you watch the trailer. They ask for music and THEN edit the clips over your music. But all in all everything that just sounds great, massive and new will be used, no matter if its musically correct or not. I hope i could give you an additional insight into trailer music :) Hope you all have a great start into the week! Andy
You're forgetting the sixth way to score a movie trailer: just do a bunch of scary or ambient sounds like the 1979 Alien trailer, or no music and just foley sounds (this might count as scoring your own trailer but whatever).
don't know if it's a bias, the orchestration of film tracks nowadays usually feels ... "blended". instead of a solo horn, or each instruments doing their own thing, it's more common to see a lots of instruments playing a melody together, making a more blended texture.
- Run! It's Gozilla - It looks like Godzilla, but due to international copyright laws is not - Still we should run like it is Gozilla! - But it isn't (I dunno why I thought about that scene by the end of this video)
5 years late (bless the algorithm) but this happens within soundtracks too, not just trailers. One of the most infamous and most recurring pieces of soundtrack is "Adagio in D Minor". Originally used in Sunshine, it's been used in countless trailers, movie and game soundtracks, and product commercials, especially anything that John Murphy is involved in.
More specifically, the arrangement titled "Requiem For a Tower." First used in the LotR: The Two Towers trailers. The Requiem For a Dream theme is title "Lux Aeterna" and sounds very different, both tonally and instrumentally.
check out the third movement of Rachmaninoff's First Suite: th-cam.com/video/QfXKKLqpVi4/w-d-xo.html . It seems the bare bones of the requiem for a dream theme was written 100 years before requiem for a dream!
The theme that everyone knows from Requiem for a Dream is Clint Mansell's Lux Aeterna: originally composed for 2001: A Space Odyssey. And yeah...it's been used *everywhere*. Mostly because everyone knows it immediately, but not where it came from. It's particularly useful in trailers because it's easy to fade into, or stitch with other music. Requiem for a Dream uses it, because the poem "Lux Aeterna" is from the Latin Requiem Mass: which the title is of course referring to. This is a mass sung for the souls of the dead, with a special liturgy. Basically every composer worth their salt since Mozart has composed music for this mass, even if just for shits and giggles. Mozart's and Mansell's remain the most commonly used though. Clint Mansell's Lux Aeterna is Library music. I used it for a school project once, alongside Mozart's Lux Aeterna and a couple of versions of Dies Irae (another poem from the Requiem Mass). I was making a trailer for a theoretical movie of A Canticle for Liebowitz, using ripped footage of course as it was just for school.
I freaking love "my name is Lincoln." I randomly found it one day going through spodify because I like sound tracks by steven jablonski and then when I randomly heard it in the avatar trailer and I was so confused because I knew for a fact he didn't score avatar. This video cleared up a lot of confusion for me. I learned something new.
This whole video just reminds me of that video that's like "if Harry Potter was a teen comedy" and they've edited a lot of the school scenes together with a pop punk track playing underneath 😂
I always loved that original haunting trailer music for Star Wars @15:00. Also LOVE the big epic music for the new Star Wars movies. Would give me chills when they first released.
Sir Cerolean something about that piece always gets me emotional. ALWAYS. I mean it's probably association to works I've heard it in but I have no specific memories
There are those who say it's overused. For me, It was the perfect choice. Something to match the grandeur and scale of what it's selling, it was well utilised.
My favorite usage of _Clair de Lune_ was in the game _The Evil Within_ 👌 They added some strings to it which made it even more emotional. Now when I hear it without strings, I feel like something is missing 🤷♂️ th-cam.com/video/BsraWujqP40/w-d-xo.html
As a trailer composer, I can attest that most (if not all) of these re-uses of production music are strictly due to convenience. Trailers usually need music within 2-3 days, so hiring a custom score from a composer is extremely risky and far more expensive than licensing a production track that the editors can cut directly to. I’ve seen a handful of my production tracks used across hundreds of projects, often completely unrelated (trailers, TV commercials, TH-cam videos, etc). The film industry operates at a breakneck speed, so music for films & trailers follows suit!
Michael Giacchino is impressively adaptive. Back in the 2000s he was known for The Incredibles and Lost, two totally different genres and music types. Now he did Rogue One and it has its own themes, but it fits in with the musical landscape of Star Wars perfectly. That's part of what made that movie so good when other stuff from Star Wars post-Disney hasn't been that great.
i LOVE watching the trailers before a movie starts, and this video just gave me a whole new reason to understand why that is! thank you so much for sharing!
I think the first time I noticed (or at least really took note of) the use of other films' scores in trailers started with Man of Steel. using the death of Gandalf in it's first teasers. The last few eventually used the movie's own theme but that initial pick always fascinated me. And then it kinda happened in reverse with the trailer to Days of Future Past. My girlfreind at the time recognized the first half as the theme from Sunshine, and then a couple years later heard the other half in Thin Red Line. And for some reason Legend of Tarzan using Axios from Halo: Forward Unto Dawn always sticks in my memory too. It's a strange and fascinating strategy that I've tried to take note of over the years. Also does anyone else remember back when a bunch of trailers and almost EVERY SINGLE fake trailer on TH-cam used Lux Aeterna from Requiem for a Dream?
leia's theme is by far my favorite theme throughout the whole star wars franchise. i loved how its main leia leitmotif evolved into the love theme in the empire strikes back, and i straight up sobbed when i heard it in the end theme of the last jedi. thats how much i treasure it, but by gosh, i dont understand why it keeps on being used against ships flying about, etc. one can argue that this literally just represents the cause leia believed in -- the resistance, and the rebellion -- but honestly, i just don't want the theme to be associated with anything other than leia. so i guess that ends my rant
I don't want to seems like a bitch or whatever but Leia's theme and the force theme where the only ones (from what I can remember) that have always made me cry. Leia's one especially after Carrie passed away. RIP to our dear space princess
bb. She should totally be a Disney Princess. She passed every test for them, except that Disney didn’t own Star Wars when it started. But she is a lead role in a first movie, not a sequel, she is adopted royal, which should count, and she made a TON of money, so she passes that.
I mean, they play Princess Leia’s theme because this is the last movie that Carrie Fisher will ever star in and is trying to make you sad that she is dead. The Force Awakens used the force theme because...do I need to explain this? So overall, I think that the marketing people did a half decent job of coordinating the music.
@SpiritWolf2K No, he says its a mix of kylo rens theme and the wookies, and them makes a shitty joke on "iF I DoNt sEe wOkIeS" and never said anything about the resolution changing to major

No I did not understand the video because it is way to in love with itself. The insinuation is that there is malicious intent with ‘trickery’ but in reality trailer makers are just trying to make good compelling trailers, that is literally the job of a trailer
"Liked 'Requiem for a Dream'? Then you'll love... 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' and Danny Boyle's 'Sunshine'! They're all evoke the same feelings!"
@@chillisauce3492 FYI: Just because that's why they did it, doesn't mean it isn't still about money. They choose to use Leia's theme because Carrie Fisher passed away and doing so will generate more artificial sympathy and feelings and associations so they can...capitalize on the maximum profit by using Fisher's death to its maximum potential. Just like they did in the film itself.
Okay, I’m gonna be real with you, Sideways, you’ve gotta do a Godzilla video. It would be a LONG ASS video, but it’s worth being done. The motifs built up over 69 years of Godzilla deserve recognition. Even if you JUST focus on the core Toho series and ONLY on the Ifukube-scored films, you still have a LOT to talk about, from how the final villain of the Heisei series, Destoroyah, has a theme that is an oppressive, bombastic reworking of Ifukube’s “Mystery/Discovery of Something Strange” motif all the way back from King Kong vs. Godzilla in 1962, to Mothra vs. Godzilla’s complete redo of Mothra’s theme and how it would be the one used in almost ALL future appearances, even in Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters’ All-Out Attack, where the motifs of the monsters were mostly dropped, Mothra’s song is still in her theme, just with the notes swapped around, to even just looking at the Heisei Era rearrangements of the Showa Ifukube themes and how they’ve evolved and changed!
Love the video, dude! I’m always blown away by how interesting and engaging your videos are. If you’re interested, I think the soundtrack of the movie ‘The Host’ has really interesting instrumentation (especially in pieces like Glow). I don’t know if it’s got any musical depth other than it’s just really nice, but regardless I think it’s a super underrated score.
That's not what he's talking about, he's asking why not use the original Leia's theme then, why remix it with the epic orchestral instrumentation variation? Why that deliberate choice? (To make it sound that way).
@@futuza Because Leia's theme exactly as it's written wouldn't have made any sense in a scene where Rey is jumping over a spacecraft? It's a love theme, dude lol So re-orchestrating it to be more epic both pays tribute to Leia and fits with an epic maneuver Rey performs.
I like this really deep dive into how trailer music works, from the trends to what works and what doesn't. I had no idea there was a whole industry behind just making trailers, i always assumed that the studios made the trailers themselves.

With the lord of the rings, Howard Shore had to write and compose music to an incomplete movie. Scenes hadn't even been filmed yet and he had already written scores, hoping they'd tie in okay. It turned out to be a masterpiece.

I would argue that *overall* John Williams is better, but for a single score LotR *definitely* takes the cake.

' everyone i know goes away in the end"
because of wolverines healing factor he has lived for so long and can essentially reheal from even death itself when he was younger everyone he has ever loved he has had to watch go away in the end.
his 'empire of dirt' refers to wolverine ending up after all he has been through with just another grave stone surrounded by dirt to leave behind to his daughter after all the humans and mutants he has killed in wars and battles over his life and has nothing left to show for it.

Into at least the trailer, for fricks' sake... y'know?

Something I just noticed, but why does Kylo Ren’s light saber sometimes work like a sword, but other times like a baseball bat? On the trailer, he strikes a guy with his saber, but it like picks the victim up instead of cutting straight through him.
Because these three are bad movies.
Disney forgot how lightsabers work
The new films have a lot of lightsaber baseball batting.

@@laner.845 Yeah, I was like, what's the problem? They used actual themes from the original series... Leia's theme was perfect for this trailer. :/
So good to see such a high quality channel on music and audio production.
Give them all of the secrets. You're changing the game dawg
This tactic is also used in pop music. Some songs use the first measure of an older song to get people's attention.
For example, Pitbull's "Feel this Moment" uses an iconic tune from a-ha's "Take on me" about 30 seconds into it.
Classical composers have been doing this for hundreds of years. You didn’t think Siegfried’s Funeral March came out of thin air, did you?

As a trailer music composer i can say: It´s all about being creative and doing stuff that kinda noone heard before.
(Sorry for my english)
First of all trailers are composed and produced a bit differently than movie scores because you have to follow a structure most of the time.
I hope i could give you an additional insight into trailer music :)
Hope you all have a great start into the week!
Andy

Definitely no bias as a horn player
don't know if it's a bias, the orchestration of film tracks nowadays usually feels ... "blended".

What about the requiem for a dream theme? Been used in trailers so many times
JonathanElliotMay Right up there with Dragonheart and Goonies.
Teacher: what’s your favorite movie?
Me: Army Of Darkness
Teacher: what’s that?
Me: a masterpiece
I binged all ur videos and now I can instantly recognise every leitmotif in Star Wars. I feel much more educated
Try watching editing is everything: ___ in 7 different genres. It really brings it to light

Leia’s theme is the classic heart string of Star Wars
Leia's Theme is my favorite in all of Star Wars, and one of my favorite pieces of music of all time. For me it defines what music is and should be.
I always loved that original haunting trailer music for Star Wars @15:00. Also LOVE the big epic music for the new Star Wars movies. Would give me chills when they first released.
Days of Future Past had a tremendous example of licensed music; super effective and evocative.
I saw the Godzilla trailer with Clair de Lune and it gave me teary eyes. I hate it for it cuz I know what they're doing too, even at the time.
Sir Cerolean something about that piece always gets me emotional. ALWAYS. I mean it's probably association to works I've heard it in but I have no specific memories
@@artfrogart Yeah, nothing in the trailer was supposed to be emotional, either. At least, nothing visual.
Now when I hear it without strings, I feel like something is missing 🤷♂️

Doesn’t change the fact that Godzilla 2 will fail critically and financially and cancel the franchise. Good riddance.
'Sounds like kilo ren is going to lead a death cult of ewoks'
Now that's a movie idea
KYLO REN leads a death cult of Ewoks: A Star Wars Story
Title: how trailer music tricks you
What i hear: STAR WARS STAR WARS
I demand that "Kylo Ren will lead a death cult of ewoks" become a meme!
MonkeyWhoWouldBeKing should be it’s own movie
We need another Ewok movie
I'm surprised you didn't mention the Far From Home trailer after you ranted on Twitter about how great it was.
I actually kinda disappointed
This and the fact he didn't talk about the incredible use of themes in endgame
@@whalesharko4465 I mean he hadn't seen it when recording this, he'll probably talk about Endgame later.
Michael Giacchino wrote the best Bond music that wasn't in a bond film.
Agreed. And I, for one, knew its trailer music was the theme from HHMSS from the very first viewing. I was stoked about super hero secret agents.
Yeah, that was a great score. Fit the tone of the movie perfectly.
Did anyone else immediately notice that he was playing an edited version of the trailer?
r/iamverysmart
Beniamin Croitor r/ihavereddit
100%, his edit felt kinda off. No bamboozle this time.
Well ofcourse if I would have seen the trailer before.
You know most people can think and remember stuff.
Bernd Arndt, the trailer is pretty cringy, so you'd be forgiven for not remembering/realizing it was different.
i LOVE watching the trailers before a movie starts, and this video just gave me a whole new reason to understand why that is! thank you so much for sharing!
The thumbnail looked to me like Rey was getting pierced by one of the wings of the star fighter. 😂😂
Russ Piano I thought this would be the top comment for sure
🤣
Aaron O'neil the Two towers actually did use Lux Aeterna for their trailer. I think that is probably where that trend started.
Ah, 2019. The last year we were able to watch movies at theatres.
leia's theme is by far my favorite theme throughout the whole star wars franchise. i loved how its main leia leitmotif evolved into the love theme in the empire strikes back, and i straight up sobbed when i heard it in the end theme of the last jedi. thats how much i treasure it, but by gosh, i dont understand why it keeps on being used against ships flying about, etc. one can argue that this literally just represents the cause leia believed in -- the resistance, and the rebellion -- but honestly, i just don't want the theme to be associated with anything other than leia. so i guess that ends my rant
Also he missed out the kylo rens theme at the end gets a major progression, aka, kylo rens the hero, hes the skywalker that rises
This video was such a waste of time...
@SpiritWolf2K No, he says its a mix of kylo rens theme and the wookies, and them makes a shitty joke on "iF I DoNt sEe wOkIeS" and never said anything about the resolution changing to major
Damn you and your incredibly analytical and strangely interesting rants. I've been watching your videos for three hours and i cant stop watching them,,,,,
Title: you’re being tricked
Sideways: actually music is very intentionally picked
That's not mutually exclusive? Did you understand the video?
The music is intentionally picked TO trick you.
Kyle is sarcasm? Or really this movies have similar scores in his trailers?
@@Franco98k Requiemfor a Dream is one of the most overused scores for trailers. Im surprised he didnt put it in the video
emile enightoola oh yes, I searched it, I didn't remember which was. Yes one of the most overused.
I always thought that "The Island", while not the best movie, was very much underrated.
The music is literally leia's theme and they used it because Carrie Fisher passed away
Edit: thanks for the likes it's the most I've ever got
Sure buddy as if they gave a fuck about anything but money
okay okay Who hurt you
@@ryanleadbitter7749 Disney star wars
@@chillisauce3492 lol so right
@@chillisauce3492 FYI: Just because that's why they did it, doesn't mean it isn't still about money. They choose to use Leia's theme because Carrie Fisher passed away and doing so will generate more artificial sympathy and feelings and associations so they can...capitalize on the maximum profit by using Fisher's death to its maximum potential. Just like they did in the film itself.
That music at the end is from a new hope when Luke finds aunt beru’s and uncle owen’s corpses
Very appropriate 👌
that’s dies irae
As Brennan Siemens said, both are referencing the same melody, the Dies Irae Gregorian chant from the middle ages - Latin for “Day of Wrath”.
This is Leila’s theme my guy... there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this masterpiece
Leilas theme... right
Leila... you’ve got me on my knees. Leila... Kenobi hears your plea. Leila... Luke will help to ease your worried mind.
That's not what he's talking about, he's asking why not use the original Leia's theme then, why remix it with the epic orchestral instrumentation variation? Why that deliberate choice? (To make it sound that way).
Leila, lol
@@futuza Because Leia's theme exactly as it's written wouldn't have made any sense in a scene where Rey is jumping over a spacecraft? It's a love theme, dude lol So re-orchestrating it to be more epic both pays tribute to Leia and fits with an epic maneuver Rey performs.
I like this really deep dive into how trailer music works, from the trends to what works and what doesn't. I had no idea there was a whole industry behind just making trailers, i always assumed that the studios made the trailers themselves.
Elysium from Gladiator is also used in a lot of trailers.
Also, that Island track is played when all the clones escape at the end of the film.
“If I continue to complain about Star Wars and Avengers on my channel, my neck beard is gonna grow a neck beard.”
Me: *looses it*
This is probably the most calm of your videos.
"Its gonna remind audiences of past films, and hopefully remind them of why they like the franchise in the first place" and them crush all of those fellings in three movie length torture sessions
