Hi! Thanks for the detailed review! I think you can use a left-hand and right-hand zipper in a model like your wife's. In this case, you will be able to fasten two identical sleeping bags and sleep together. My wife and I have been successfully using this method for several years now. This adds 7 to 10 degrees of comfort temperature in my experience. Sorry for my English and good luck hiking!
Hi, thank you for this comparison and for the honesty. 👍 May I know what is your wife's height? I have a doubt about the size I should choose. I am 1.76 m tall and I sleep on my stomach so my feet are stretched to the maximum... Do you think size M would fit me with the hood closed?

And would you recommend the x-Lite 300 with the hydrophobic filling combined with the water resistend quantum pro material at the outside? Or the lite line 400 with exact the same changes?
hi, thanks for this review it shows that sometimes ultra light is not the way to go if you want a bit of durability and confort, always question of balance.
Thx, great video! After I seen this I customised my x-lite 200 in Large, heavyer fabric(29g), Wide, add down and 5mm 1/1 zipper. I´m happy with 517g :)!
@andersnord8163 hi! Could you please tell me more about your customized xlite200? Its specs, temp rating and about your build type I'd like to ser if it is a serious bag for what I look for
Hi! I ended up with taking the lighter fabric(toray), 1/1 5mm zipper and add overfill on top. 431g in total. I had it down to -5 with a light downjacket and no problem. I like the lighter fabric(toray), no moisture even after many wet days in the mountains. Great sleeping bad, Love it :)! :)!@@iljano20
Hello. Can you please help me how to pack the Xlite 400 sleeping bag? When folding it, it constantly inflates with air and I cannot automatically insert it into the small compression pack that is sold with this sleeping bag. Thank you in advance for your answer.
Buy some wash in down proof and down wash. This will help with your bag absorbing moisture. Also always buy dark colour bags as the dark colour will help the bad dry faster in the sun.
But after I wash it with down proof it won't be "coated" as good as if they were hydrophobic down right? Because I don't plan on going on that wet of trips and when I can make it hydrophobic later on I will save the 30€ for now and wash it with that when I think I'll need some more waterproofness. But it probably doesn't work that good?
Thank for the video. Really helpful! Do you and your wife find that the comfort temperature ratings from cumulus are fairly accurate. I know it always depends on the individual person but I'd be interested in your experiences anyways. Currently me and my wife have deuter bags rated for comfort 2C, but we are even not cosily warm at around 17c hence I am nor sure how those ratings can be trusted.
Hey 👋 most important is also the combination of your sleeping pad I combine them with the thermarest xlite or Uber lite if your pad isn’t of a good r value your bag can be as thick and warm you will never sleep wel , for the rating the xlite of my wife comes pretty close to what they say , my bag isn’t specially when it’s a windy night I get really cold I think it’s has the do with the thin fabric used Greetings
@@tattooedhiker2813 Thank you! Sorry to hear that you don't seem to be very happy with your purchase. At least you made many people aware of the shortcomings with the ultra light material and slim zipper. They always seem to tempting on paper!

I really like the idea of a quilt but I'm not sure and my family thinks a quilt is no good idea. Also that specific Lite Line Sleeping Bag (Might rather get the Lite Line 300 instead) seems like a good one. Not that expensive, light, versatile.
I want to buy the lite line 400, but I would like to confirm that size M will be ok for me . I am 1'81 tall and rather thin, so probably M size would be ok, since they write in their web that maximun user height is 1'85 in the specifications if you don't customize anything. Any help?

Hi - great video and very honest so thank you so much for posting such a useful video. I just ordered a Panyam 450 bag from Cumulus which has a 5mm zip as standard but I changed the inner fabric to the Toray airtastic from pertex 29g standard fabric. Do you think your problem was 100% zip and the thin fabric got damaged as a result or the thin fabric also contributed to the problem and therefore in my case, I should change my order away from the Toray back to the standard heavier pertex even with the 5mm zip? Thanks in advance for any help and hopefully the good people at Cumulus will let me change it if necessary :)
Hey 👋 thank you 🙏 No I think you be ok with the 5 mm zipper The one on my wife’s bag works great and I don’t see any difference within the fabric choice It’s 100 % default zipper in my eyes Enjoy your hike!
@@tattooedhiker2813 Thanks for the prompt reply. I also got in touch with Cumulus after watching your video. They were super helpful (as always) and agree with you. Basically the 5mm zip has a guard which the 3mm doesn't have so the 5mm can be zipped up from inside the bag whereas the 3mm cannot without the snagging as you showed. So the 3mm zip has to be adjusted BEFORE you get into the bag so you can manually keep the material away from the zip as you move it. I personally think they should make people aware of this on their website as most hikers would be wanting to open the zip to get into the bag and then zip up once they're inside. Hopefully they will do this as its important for people to know before they order a bag from them and especially as you have the ability on their website to customise your order (but longer time for delivery and costs £14 to change zip to 5mm atm) They sent me a link to their you tube video which explains about their 3mm/5mm sleeping bag zips:- th-cam.com/video/jgep86iPI5I/w-d-xo.html Which again should be linked in on their website which I don't think is currently the case (although the video seems very recent so they maybe just haven't got round to it yet?) Really good comparison and informative video. I have the Panyam 450 but have thought about buying the X-lite but with full length 5mm zipper. I see that maybe it is also the fabric that is the problem, this video may change my mind about buying X-lite. Thanks :)
Thank you for the comment, I make these videos only for fun I’m not getting anything from it 👍 , my length is 1,84 m and I weigh around 78 kg , I think the L is also bit to long there should be one in between , I have like 10 cm to much on the foot end 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for posting this. I would not buy one now based on your video. Even with the over stuff of your wife's bag, they both still look under filled. You can see the bare (cold) spots and the clumping of the down.
Thats the reality with extreme ultralight products, you trade usability and durability for some weight savings. I think that in this temperature range it is better to use a quilt. Cumulus Taiga top quilts have better warmth to weight ratio than X-Lite and use more durable materials and no need to mess with zippers. Some people dont like quilts but i have used them in hammocks and on qround and love them.
SlvrKmr hey 👋 there, thanks for the comment, your right about that, but I own only ultralight products from zpacks to EE equipment ext.. some are better made than others that’s true but the zipper on this bag is serious malfunctioning , you right about quilts I own 2 of them loved them 👍👍

Adopanci A hey 👋 thanks for the comment, Yes 💯 % my choice is de lite line , price to weight overall performance is absolutely worth it, although I don’t like the x-lite that much it is a pretty lightweight sleeping bag , and I only recommend off using it in dry condition, meaning no rain or even condensation in your tent and change the zipper to a 5 mm 😄
thanks for the film,
Really good comparison and informative video. I have the Panyam 450 but have thought about buying the X-lite but with full length 5mm zipper. I see that maybe it is also the fabric that is the problem, this video may change my mind about buying X-lite. Thanks :)
How long are you?
SlvrKmr hey 👋 there, thanks for the comment, your right about that, but I own only ultralight products from zpacks to EE equipment ext.. some are better made than others that’s true but the zipper on this bag is serious malfunctioning , you right about quilts I own 2 of them loved them 👍👍
@@tattooedhiker2813 I've had the 200 bag for quite a while and if you zip it with your left hand, use your thumb as a guide between the collar and zipper pulling up, also if you use your body to stretch out the bag while in it, everything gets less floppy :)
thanks for sharing your opinion, wondering if they resolved that zipper problem in 2023
Tak, rozwiązali. Zamki już sie nie zacinają.
@@grzechooh1980 Hello, does cumulus solved the problem with the 3mm zipper too? Does it have es zipper protector like the 5mm zipper or something like this?
Why does your bag seem to have much less loft compared to the Lite line 400?
Hey 👋 , I started after a few days on the trail , I had some moist days in the mountains and from then on it stayed like this ? After the trip I put I in the dryer on cold with some tennis balls, but it stayed like this seems like the loft is gone sadly!!
Hi, If i customised X-Lite, Lite-Line , Panyam into same outer fabric and inner fabrics. The only differences they have would be only the designs and FP right? excluding minor stuffs like zip length
for example if i change the outer fabric of X-Lite into Lite Line”s fabric, it basically becomes a Lite Line with 900FP and different designs
Great video. I'm considering buying quilt from cumulus for myself
Hey 👋 thanks 🙏 for the comment , I own 2 quilts and loved them although I didn’t buy one from cumulus , the reason for that is the size , you only can order one in size M and that’s for people max 1,85 and although I’m 1,84 m it’s to small when you toss and turn a lot during the night, I order always them L and wide models from different brand such as zpacks or EE equipment or UGC ext... and also I like to choose the fabrics and the colour of it , somethings that’s not possible with cumulus 👍👍
@@tattooedhiker2813 You can send them an email and they will be happy to customise it for you. I am 1.87m and got myself a 350 quilt in L size with extra width and a custom color. Haven't been able to try it outdoors yet but I can confirm the size is definitely big enough.
@@mentrena :-) nice to know * Thank you
How tall are you?
What's your height and weight?
Hey 👋
I’m 1,84 m 77kg
@@tattooedhiker2813 thanks 😄
Is the sleeping bag size custom? Is it standard?
@@sleepingbags not custom but it’s a size L and they had to be made bye order
Hi, thanks for the video was very informative. Could you please let me know what are the measurements in centimetres when packaged in the bag? I am trying to make a smaller hiking kit. Also if you have other brands that I can buy here in Europe that you recommend let me know.
Rhawi Dantas 👋 hey it fits in a medium stuff sack from zpacks , don’t now exactly how long and wide that is ? , you also get a nylon stuff sack when you buy the bags but they are on the small side and it’s not easy to fit them in but it’s possible ! Are you ok with this answer ? Any other questions let me now
@@tattooedhiker2813 Thanks for the reply man. I found the zpack on Google and got some measurements: 30cm x 15cm
I think I will be going for the Lite Line 400 as per your recommendation.
Cheers, keep it up
Rhawi Dantas the zpacks bag is also a rol top bag do that means you can rol it further down and make it even smaller 👍 other brands are RAB , but quite expensive I think cumulus the best value for money, but not the xlite 😉
The pad in the video is 30"inch wide?
alexander neshev 👋, yes 30 inch wide 👍👍
I appreciate the video. :)
I’m 184 cm
Great review
Hey 👋 thanks a lot !
"the wife is always cold" 😇😀
Your wife is a smart lady 😂👌
Therefore she’s my wife 😃
@@tattooedhiker2813 brilliant 🤭👍
xlite 400
Great review ! 👍🏼
I also own a Cumulus : the Xlite model. I decided to go w/o the zipper, mainly because of the issues you’re talking about, plus it makes the bag lighter and easier to use...😉
I also made a review of this ultralight sleeping bag (in french) there : th-cam.com/video/BbjwKJ7qGVw/w-d-xo.html
Keep going on mate ! 😀✌🏼
Bivouac 2.0 thanks 🙏 same for you
man... Why french???! I'm also proud of my native language, but using anything than en on web means, that your work is often much less useful. Thanks for review, but even autotranslation won't make it usable.
Thanks for the video!! It helped me a lot🙏🏻🫀
how tall are you?
👋 hey I’m 1.84 cm
