- The final phase of a historic cleaning effort of the River Seine in Paris is taking place ahead of the 2024 Olympics.
The river has been declared a "no-go zone" due to its vast levels of pollution for almost a century.
But a €1.4bn (£1.2bn; $1.6bn) clean-up of the Seine hopes to leave a legacy of the games fit for the public to use from 2025.

The efforts to clean up the River Seine in Paris ahead of the 2024 Olympics are truly commendable. It's heartening to see such a significant investment and commitment to restoring the river to its former glory. The transformation of the Seine from a "no-go zone" to a clean and accessible public space will not only benefit the athletes and visitors during the games but also leave a lasting legacy for the people of Paris and tourists to enjoy for years to come
Thats true unfortunately they wasted 1.5 billion dollars because tons of people are protesting by pooping in it but it really was a commendable effort. 🤷♀️
Say what you like about Europe, but the continent has easily the highest concentration of beautiful cities on this planet, and Paris is up there with the best of them.
When its not being burned down anyways...
@@adrianlouw2499 But it’s not being ‘burned down’; aside from the unfortunate situation with Notre-Dame.
@@titteryenot4524 Did you just wake up from a coma or something? Heard about the nation-wide riots? You saw none of the apocalyptic scenes and devastation?
@@adrianlouw2499 Lol. I don’t call something that can be largely cleaned up in a day ‘burning down a city’!🤣
@@adrianlouw2499 They can even withstand that. 😄
Rivers should be cleaned regardless. At least they're doing it now
Good for the French this is amazing work 👏
Yeah good for the hobos who got kicked out of Paris and the students of their dorms 😂 you tourists are clueless
Great work, hope it stays clean for a long time to come!
The river is generally much cleaner than it used to be except for when there is very heavy rain which makes sewage overflow into the river. It should be fine for the Olympics as long as there isn't a deluge.
That is true. However, didn’t you see that massive storm drain collection tank they’ve built? That should be enough even after a storm.
@@danielwhyatt3278 Yes when it is finished,
amazing, they did it! I remember watching another video about how unlikely it was because of all the challenges etc
How about the Thames?
so brilliant that residents of Paris will benefit in the aftermath of the olympics. Clean river and decent accomodation.
It’s very unusual to see a 20-30 year plan come to fruition. Politics often demands short term thinking around electoral cycles. Important when success like this happens to give props to the original decision makers. That way you also encourage the current generation of politicians to think long term about their legacies. So who are they?
Cries in Thames water
They want to clear up those streets first…
02:03 - 02:09 I've got the gold medal for that 😂
A most welcome break from environmental disaster coverage. 😊
Great. This should happen to all rivers.
ניזכרתם
Wow this is insane
Like kinda totally man….
"insane"
Universally hailed,
Filthy water
It disgusts me to think they could have done this all along yet it took international scrutiny with the Olympics to finally do it.
See? It's possible. Now all other cities with rivers should follow this example.
Imagine having to unclog that pipe @_@
It’s ridiculously hot in Japan.
I want to swim there.
Have a Fukushima day
Thank you for your concern. I really appreciate it!
An atomic energy bomb was dropped over Hiroshima on August 6th,1945.
What is peace? Since that day, we have been thinking about what peace is.
@@flowerdiary9689 What do you think of the atomic bomb dropped?
Really? How can the tickets be sold?

Marks, get set, GO!
Tom Daley dives in, and breaks his neck on a pushchair…
I would rather swim in a stream like in the town of Chillingbourne.
If only south west water could pull their finger out like this!
Paris Olympics must include dance competitions also foredals as to be good dancer requires fitness flexible body energy salsa, pole dance, cultural dance of various countries etc.
Wasnt paris burning a few weeks ago.
Euh nope. First it was on the suburbs and not Paris and second it was 3 weeks ago so except for pretty Big damages its mostly good even in these cities
"few weeks ago" there you go. answer lies in question
To much of risk of drowning a very bad idea. Sounds lovely but is very dangerous.
Thames envy Richie ?
bbc, no use selling rubber tubes because divers can save themselves with old tyres in river
Are there bombs in The Seine?
המוסלמים לא צריכים לחגוג כריסמס כדי לקבל עזרה יש להם דת מספיק חזקה אל תנסו להשפיע עליהם

Why not swim there now cause of the heat?

I'm not diving into the Seine until they get the street leakage from the men peeing everywhere they please. Well, at least the Seine has not caught fire like a river in Ohio USA in '69. But great I hope the cleaning is a success it was beautiful when I visited in the 70s.
India has invested billions of dollars in order to clean river Ganga but it didn’t work out and here u see they ve done it without any money
Venice was a big disappointment. Movies always cg the water to look blue, but in reality it is brown and smelly and all the buildings smell of mold. Very unromantic...
so if you fell in, you weren't allowed to swim to the shore ?
presumably you had to stay where you were and drown, especially if you were a foriegner !
redo of healer fan
Strong rain will change everything.
Covid would have helped to reduce dumping in the Seine over the last few years. I'm not convinced by the French idea of 'clean' and imagine that there will be lots of ear infections.
Yucky
Will the US public congressional hearings on UAP/UFO's be live here on BBC?

It was found among French people if a person had only ever eaten organic food their entire lives
they still had the same level of pesticides in their bodies
as those who had not eaten organic diet.
ITS IN THE WATER
I imagine they will have to avoid all the human filth
As France drowns in conflict. Alrighty then.
Human swimmers to breathe in the sewage and clean the water - Very innovative!
Still full full of pesticides which they wont remove.
Oh crap is what they will be in what sa sewer
Hmm, Ive never heard of that river, where abouts in Britain is it?
I'm not sure that's a seine comment.
Head in the sand much?
@@JeffreyGoddin over your head much? This is BBC yet we get practicality zero videos about Britain. Why do you think that is?

France government more focused on cleaning up a river than allowing pensioners to retire years earlier😅 How dumb can Macron and his lackies be?
You understand that _both_ of those things would benefit people, don't you?
A cleaner river AND a more sustainable state pension.
This has been a ongoing process for about 20 years and it’s mostly done by the city of Paris sooooooo
@@SaltyCanadian how so if they only wanted to clean it for the Olympics which was chosen only a couple of years ago?🤔
@@nameless7699 they didn’t they’ve been wanting to clean it for decades, the Olympics coming simply made em speed it up

Olympics shouldn’t have been in Paris. They treat their labour very badly and police brutality against ethnic population is Barbaric and Hijab band. How do feel about bashing FIFA World Cup Watar😂😂😂
That's awful how they point on ecology problems, but cleaning river is possible only for stupid Olympics
