When all the renovations are done the rent will be 3 times what they were paying.

Allowing these conglomerate investment companies to continuously kick out the elderly and long term renters is disgusting. Worst part is when these investors purchase the property, do their so called upgrades, majority of the places remain empty as NO ONE (gentrified yuppies) looking for an apartment can even afford the new high rent. So the apartments/condos sit empty for a long while; until that investor then sells to another investor, as it's all a tax right off for them. They don't care about the elderly people left homeless who had rent control.

It is just greed...when it is out of control more people will suffer the decisions others with power make. Greed makes life expensive and chaotic for the one who cannot afford to spend on expensive services and products. The wealth do not understand the reality of how much it cost to live. They do not struggle to have the basic things...so they are detached from what is fair. If the government were to tax in any way that would limit their ability to grow profit...they would be mad and complain that business is crippling. Everyone wants a decent lifestyle. Everyone want a chance to also have fun spending money after necessary expenses are paid off. But , the once's with investments are not truly allowing the rest to enjoy life. This will not end well. When we grow greedy we start to destroy the lives of others.

I've been through these things, I've had to leave for many reasons. Even now, I'm leaving my 12 year old home because my neighbor who lives 20 feet from me bought into this property and he's being verbally abusive towards me now, trying to dictate everything I do, threatening me..i have to leave my home my house burned down on, that I built a home with my now late partner on - I'm only 37, I am just a renter - and receive zero help.
It is what it is. It's called America, capitalism. It's got its good and its bad. Try to focus on the good.
I have to say the owners who let them keep security deposit, a month of rent, and three months to move are being extremely gracious. Very kind. Three months to move is plenty, trust me. I've already done 8 truck loads on my own to a new cottage on a different mountain range. Moving to an apartment across town with a moving truck will be a breeze...
It is horrible...and yes, it is a 'home'. But homes can be made anywhere as long as you're alive - you are your home, your belongings can find another place to live with you. The trees you planted will be enjoyed by others. Life goes on...try not to fight the flow.

I lived in the San Diego area for 30 years, and Imperial Beach was not considered a desirable location because it is so close to the Mexican Border. Mexico releases raw sewage into the ocean, and it ends up at Imperial Beach. Now that all the cleaner beaches along the coast are maxed out, developers are going to try to develop this area into a higher-rent district. Buyers better do their homework.

I feel for these people BUT they don't own those apartments, that building. You shouldn't be able to dictate to owners what they can do with their property. Is the answer more public housing, more partnerships with people who help low income renters, helping people buy homes of their own? I don't know the answer. I don't like these corporate real estate companies buying residential buildings and homes but they're the only ones who can afford to buy and maintain them.

We also need rent control- which we keep voting against for some reason.

They do it’s called government housing aka the projects when tou force private citizens to only be allowed a certain amount they can charge that’s when the game changes. The private citizens property will be sold since they cannot make $$. Government will come in and help…government doesn’t make anything they only distribute our tax dollars to help others. If you like government in everything that’s why there’s no housing now

I’ve lived in my community for 8 years and if it’s sold and the owners required everyone to leave, the best thing to do is LEAVE. You don’t own the property. If they want to be close to the grandkids, look for another property, seek to buy in the area, or drive to visit from another area of town. It’s simple. When you’re dependent on others for your housing, you have to comply with their rules.

My relatives live in I.B. and one says the poop spores in the air are getting worse. You cannot walk on the beach, swim in it and fish. There signs everywhere on the beach and the human waste spewing into ocean is making the air really bad and people get sick easily. I visited last year and I'm never going back there. It's so gross. And rents are extremely high to live in pool

Naturally low rent units? I'm sorry, no one wants anyone to be homeless but costs of running a building continue to go up.
It's simple math, that's probably why the former owner sold it. What's the solution?
Landlords can't continue to eat costs like skyrocketing insurance and property taxes.
There is a bigger problem here that our elected officials need to analyze and offer up fair solutions.
Otherwise, smaller landlords will sell to corporate greed machines with deep pockets like in these cases.

If the City intervenes What about everyone else And if so won't it just make matters worse in the long run, There is an endless influx which are driving up demand for housing and the Cost of housing.

Here’s my advice. If the state wants to meddle with business housing decisions why don’t they buy the apartments and subsidize them themselves.

Imperial beach homes are going up in the millions, I.B. Is not what it used to be. I remember no one wanted to go there 10 years ago or more. People didn’t like the Southbay, but they’re moving down south now, ironic
