My family came over to Montreal in the early 1900s from Russia and the Ukraine. As in America, they came with very little but were willing to work hard.

Thank you for making this mini documentary! I am using it for a project on immigration groups in my identity politics course in uni right now. Your video is informative and interesting and provided me with a great visual addition to my presentation, really appreciate the work you put into this.

No problem, glad the video is still helping others. I actually made this one for a documentary film making class when I was in college.

I am Muslim, we as a Muslim do not know about Jews that how they worked hard, thanks I am glad to know and I am very happy that I am living in that country in which people of any community are hard working. Sure Jews has great contribution to make my country great. I am not jealous to Jews. I salute all hard working peoples.

Thanks for putting this together, Matt. I mean it. You have 3 subscribers and you took the time to record and edit this video just because you knew someone would benefit from it. I did. This video just helped to save my social studies grade, and for that I am grateful. I wish you the best, and a happy farewell.

No problem Rice_Puddn. I actually did this for a documentary class at college, but also so people could gain some knowledge about one of the nation's immigrant groups. I'm glad you were able to use this to help your grade and hopefully learned something interesting from it. As a filmmaker, I'm happy that you took the time to write this thank you comment and appreciate the video. Have a good day and good luck with the rest of the school year. Also, feel free to message me or comment if you have any questions or maybe a video request.

I don't understand why people and countries have problems with Jewish people what have they done nothing, why do people want to hurt them, it's a different lifestyles and religion they work hard live their own lives, I certainly don't know what everyone has a problem with them, I'm British and have no problem with any races or religions we all bleed red blood underneath and we all live on one planet no matter what colour we are.

A lot of it has to do with jealousy.

That is a lovely comment. Anti Semitism comes from the bottom of the the barrel from Christianity & Islam. Jews refusing to submit to Jesus or Mohamed.

@@y.k.9705I agree. Most people cant cope with the fact that a small group can be such prosperous. Jelousy and envy!

Such a tough life to leave all your belongings, homes & especially losing much of their family due to the criminal Nazis. Sad but immensely brave!

Yes - Jews were overly represented in the garment industry in the US. But they didn't wear yellow "Jude" stars in the US. That was in Europe under Nazi Fascism. If you were to re-edit this - that would be one correction I would recommend because the pictures and the context don't match. However, you might not have known this at the time.

Just saw your wonderful documentary of Jews on the lower east side! One question, the men working on sewing machines why were they wearing stars of David on their shirts reminds me somewhat of Nazi Germany.

Thanks for liking my video. It possibly is, I made the film back when I was in college. So resources were short at the time and I believe I used what stock media I could find that was at least somewhat applicable. I know better now, lol .

Lots of the scenes showed here are not from the time period described (1900 NYC). A lot of scenes are from the nazi era Europe (you'll note the yellow star of david pinned on the workers clothes)

I'm not going to discount what Jews went through in Europe; I have extended family that disappeared in Europe in WW2. That being said, when my family came to the US Prussia in the 1800s, they experienced similar behavior. During world war I and world war II no matter how many of the family served. They were still targeted in the US. Most of them change their names. Human beings are sometimes pretty nasty.
