- Hey Ranger Nation, Today we have another video for you and this is Steven Universe Season One on Blu Ray from Manga Entertainment. Now i will say i'm not a fan of this season mainly because i found it to be something all over the place. I thought after watching the movie i would enjoy where everything started but to be honest i didn't really enjoy this series because the animation seemed to be all over the place, the story was just something a bit boring and some of the characters didn't learn at times and i got bored with the amount of filler that was in the series, some of it was pretty good but to be honest not enough to hold my interest. I'm hoping the other seasons are decent and that it doesn't follow suit as the first season. So what are your thoughts on this season? Did you like it or not, Let me know in the comments

Gladly I saw the whole series as a marathon before the Steven Universe Movie with Commercial Free plus Steven Universe Future which that series is gonna end soon
I get what you mean Airlim but it's an enjoyable show with weird animation (it's no Adventure Time or Powerpuff Girls {The 90's}) I love Garnet and Peridot in the show
I have to say that is some marathon to do, there are so many seasons i think out there, Got to give it to you that you watched it all to the movie, I'm tempted to watch Steven Universe Future tho as it seems a lot better
As it got further on then it wasn't to bad but it was just very weird a the beginning. Garnet is amazing to be honest, she's the best one

Fantastic series, but not it's not perfect. There are weird animatiom changes (Steven's Together Breakfast face still haunts me) and it does take a while to get to know the characters and get the plot going, but if you stick around long enough, I'm confindent that you will enjoy the show and see the glorious elements that make it inclusive and enjoyable. (Lesson of the day: No TV show, or anything really, is perfect. We all have our rough beginnings)
I kind of liked the first season but then i'm like future is a lot better

With a show this dense and full of character details and worldbuilding, you really need to pace your content. If Steven Universe spilled everything there is to know about gem culture, Homeworld and their backstories in the first 10 eps, it would overwhelm 90% of the audience and get lost in itself. You need to properly set up the stakes and drama by slowly introducing us to the world and making the viewer actually care.
If Rose’s Scabbard was Episode 1, nobody would have any reason to care about Rose, Pearl or Steven and it wouldn’t feel satisfying to learn more about them. An episode like The Test (in which Steven learns from his past mistakes and takes on some responsibility) wouldn’t be satisfying or meaningful without Cheeseburger Backpack to set it up. On The Run wouldn’t be a satisfying pay-off without 40 eps of context explaining Amethyst’s inferiority complex. And the epic Garnet reveal in the finale wouldn’t mean anything if the show hadn’t so carefully illustrated the true nature of fusion.
Everything that happened in the season served some kind of worldbuilding or narrative function (e.g. explaining gem ageing, explaining fusion, explaining the temple, explaining gem regeneration, explaining shapeshifting, explaining corrupted gems, etc) which gets applied or recontextualised later in the story. That’s the mark of clever writing.
While i agree on some parts but there is a time where you speed up some stuff and cover it rather than just say have one big thing and then say 15 episodes later come back to it and those 15 eps later come back to it.
You don't have to cover everything in say episode one and like saying Rose's Scabbard being there but i would of liked a few episodes after it being there to be talked about or other things within the series to be talked about more. You can build a world but then you want to bring some people in to keep them there. Most of the episodes blured into one and when you got to the really good stuff you thought darn why isn't there more about this. While Pearl had her brake down i didn't get that whole pay off, i saw it from other things that had happened. But then every person will take away something from it.
Like the homeworld i know i can wait a while for it to be explained and what's going on but at the end of the series you find out a little bit about it. I would of liked say around episode 30 that they sit Steven down and talk about it a bit more, you can dedicate one episode and find out about all the back stories. Look at Ice Kings story from Adventure Time. You get one episode dedicated to him and telling his story but then you don't need anything from it till much later.
With making people wanting to talk more about it and build it then yes you do but you can choose a better pace then the one that i watched.
I'm hoping in season 2 and on wards everything from Season one pays off and all but from a new comer wanting to get into the series then for me the series didn't do that well but the movie did which is a werid thing
Looks like MangaUK have cancelled all future Steven Universe releases...
I just checked my emails and they mentioned that they have taken it off for some reason, I'm kind of shcoked that they aren't releasing the second season
