    The greatest pitch in the history of the Fightin Phils!
    Great stuff! Great call by Harry the K. And Bill Campbell’s narration is icing on the cake.

    So great to hear Harry Kalas radio call as local announcers were barred from WS TV work back then.

    Notice that Brett did not charge the mound? In those days pitchers threw inside and hitters understood that. Nowadays, if you throw a pitch within half a foot of the hitter, there's a brawl. I had the pleasure of meeting Dickie Noles in Clearwater a few years ago. Such a great guy...he took a picture with my 8-year-old son and let him wear his WS ring...he was thrilled...

      A real honor to meet a piece of shit person Holes … who deliberately threw the ball right at Brett and you was an honor for you and to have your son meet that piece of crap

    Whether he threw at him or not, that had nothing to do with royals losing that series. Come on people! That's Bullshit

    Brett-HOF'er
    Noles- Never heard from again
    Imagine that the HIGHLIGHT of your entire career is throwing a ball at a guy's head. My heart would swell with pride.

      Nope, the highlight of his career was the life-ending curveball he struck Brett out with.

      @@jhs-law - I think I saw Noles at the HOF last time I visited. He was cleaning the toilets in the Men's Room.

    Pitchers used to protect the outside part of the plate as theirs. Any batter that leaned over the plate attempting to extend his coverage to include the outside corner would be decked like this.

    pure hype. kansas city lost game 5 when dan quisenberry blew a save in the 9th giving up 2 runs and the game. they would have gone back to philly with a 3-2 lead but instead went there down 2-3.

    Noles and Lonnie Smith were roommates while in the Phillies organization. Smith as a a Cardinal got 2 or 3 hits off of Noles as a Cub, next time up, Noles drilled him.

    That pitch didn't work. Brett still had a great series.

      The Royal's scored 4 runs after this pitch. George had 3 hits after this pitch

    If I'm Brett, I'm waiting for Noles and Green after the game.

      Don't lean out over the plate if you don't want some chin music.

    He’s right, that pitch was headed straight for Brett’s face!!

      It was such a perfect brushback, it would have just grazed Brett's whiskers.

    Yeah that shut him down..Brett only hit .375 that series. Lol. Shut him down from hitting . 400

    Oh my goodness this is awesome! I watched this Series as a teenaged Phils fan and never knew before now about the chatter between Noles and Brett before he knocked him down. Wow. Very cool.

    Why wasn't Frey ejected on the spot for pushing the HP ump?

    Bush league. If Brett did not have excellent reflexes he might be dead or definitely permanent damage. Noles was trying to hit him in the head.
    Brett is in the Hall of Fame. Noles is not. Had a losing record and over 4 ERA if I remember correctly.

    • @straycatttt
      @straycatttt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Noles has a WS ring and you do not.
      Sal Maglie had a career ERA of 3.15 and a record of 115-62. His nickname was “Sal the Barber.” I’ll give you 3 guesses why they called him that. Clue: he never worked in a barbershop.

      Bush league? More like normal baseball...before this generation of babies started throwing a fit every time a pitcher comes slightly inside.... Meanwhile, the batters are coming up to plate wearing Kevlar. It's ridiculous. Why not just throw BP?

  • @kj9093
    @kj9093 ปีที่แล้ว

    In today's game, Jim Frey would have been ejected and suspended for shoving the umpire, but in 1980 Denkinger let it all go in the moment. It's a different world today.

    Standing there in a Phillies uniform bragging about his claim to fame. haha dicky throwing a baseball at somebody’s head doesn’t make you a legacy like you come off as.
