My goal is to make lifting a regular part of my life that I do because I'll feel like shit if I don't. Yesterday I ordered a new piece of equipment, and right after, I said to myself "well I'm going to my gym, I gotta make this a lifestyle". I had a great workout and felt great during and afterwards. Today I started trying out supersetting and dropsets. I've come to the realization that my gym time is for me and me alone. It's a solo activity, not a shared one. I go out there and put the music on, and go on a little trip by myself. Loving it.
Hey Waffles, That's absolutely amazing man. I'm like yourself. If I don't go, I feel like crap. But if I go too much, I get burnt out. It's a balancing act! That's it man. It is your time. Set your own goals that are within reach but challenging enough to keep it interesting! Honestly when you love what you do, success follows. Corny but true!
@@EliteProAli I'm almost there. The next challenge is that my ski season starts on monday, and I'm a mon-thu skier. I come back to town for a few days at the end of the week. Probably will do one session with squats and upper body, and then one with just upper body. That's why I ordered the cable tower. When I started lifting a few months ago, I had a lot of low grade anxiety because I really really really didn't want to get hurt. I mentioned that in a comment in another of your vids. But things have been progressing well and my body is getting acclimated. Today my first set of my push presses was only 2 reps, so I just went down 1 kg and was able to start getting my five reps. It's so neat to see such a little weight have that effect. That's when I decided to try out supersetting and drop sets. Having the cable tower will make it easier to interleave exercises. I was telling a friend the other day how it makes me laugh when I see you grabbing onto the straps to slide onto the seat under your bar. I checked out that smith attachment that you have ... found it on Amazon. I have enough room that I can just dump the bar if I need to, so I don't see a need for one, but I did look. I have other equipment I'd rather spend my money on but I absolutely don't want to make any "aspiration purchases". Cheers. I'm enjoying your videos.
@@waffles418 Thanks Waffles, Appreciate the vote of confidence regarding the videos. The ones I post thinking.. "Ah.. This one will flop" always gets the most engagement on all metrics. The ones that I do find having value end up being slept on. Murphy's law I guess lol. Yeah man, once you are truly pushing yourself and training 'hard' that one 1lb can change the outcome of the set. Yeah Amazon has some gems man. But I think in all honesty, I have everything I need now that anything else i'd purchase would be more of a luxury / boredom. MAYBE some day I'll invest in a real good belt squat for the later years if I can't find a way to replicate it in the home gym. For now however, it's all gravy :) Thanks again for stopping to chat, appreciate it.
I’ve never understood why people hate on kinobody so much when Rio essentially is the exact same but with squats. Even Rio hates on Greg. But squats aren’t even necessary, like you said and not everyone wants huge legs. I’d argue split squats can be more challenging.I once asked Rio what he thinks of kinobody and he said that it would only get you a swimmers physique. This doesn’t make any sense because every program will eventually get you to your goal physique eventually. Squats can’t be that important that the inclusion of them magically transforms a program from garbage to brilliant. I can’t imagine you’d have small legs if you built up to Bulgarian split squats with 40kg db per hand per leg for 10 reps
@@Daniel-y5t6l Bro Kinobody 2015 was the GOAT. I don't follow him anymore but I still think he's great. The only thing that I disliked is his supplement push despite saying that supplements are shit lol But the info he gave out and him as a person is awesome. Yeah Rio is basically the new Kinobody but with squats and deadlifts. The coffee, the fasting, the minimalism, the 10k steps etc Yeah I love split squats on a smith man. Highly recommend! I think squats are just that. They are highly overrated but they are a good exercise when dosed appropriately. The fitness industry is hilarious right bro?
Exactly man. Funny thing is, I bought a lot of Greg’s programs in the past and some of them do include barbell squats and Romanian deadlifts. We end up going down the rabbit hole of the fitness industry and most of us forget why we started in the first place: to look good and have a lean/muscular physique. I got so caught up and shamed into adding weight to the squat and then I realised it was barely working my quads and mainly taxing the lower back. Then I switched to split squats and leg press and finally feel my legs burning. Greg is definitely right that it’s super easy to add size and strength to the legs and have a lagging upper body. You have to remember that he’s been on this platform for 15 years so he eventually had to branch out his business. He paid his dues giving out a ton of free content. Rio will eventually sell out too. I don’t know whether you watched Rio when his channel started, but he built most of his physique on kinobody. His transformation was on Greg’s insta page. Since then he’s deleted most of his earlier videos and blog posts.
@Daniel-y5t6l Oh wow I didn't know he was one of his kino warriors.. Damn. Yeah.. I guess it's a tough world out there and people gotta make money.. Sometimes I wonder if posting content is even worth doing lol. Like I said earlier though. I'll post when I feel like there needs to be something said.
I want to try the polarity fitness routine for my bulk, but I’m kinda skeptical because the volume seems very low for bodybuilding and I’m afraid I’ll waste the surplus calories. All the bodybuilding channels(like natural hypetrophy and basement bodybuilding) seem to advocate for more workload to stimulate growth. Can you vouch for his approach. I’m asking because I’ve never seen anyone else preach this or recommend this. I’ve always thought the more you do the more results you get
@@Jordan-j9l3o Hi Jordan It's all about what you can recover from. Are you young, have less responsibilities than a typical adult and your hormonal mileu is peaking? Sure, try your luck. I know I thrived in that scenario. Then as life happened.. Long hour days at work.. sometimes night shifts... married.. two kids.. less time for relaxing hobbies etc ... a few years older I found that recovery time couldn't keep up with the training that I was doing. Everything works. Stop being skeptical and try what you want to try. This is the only way you'll ever know and evolve in your training. The video kinda hints this lol
I am young but the idea of building your physique on the least amount of work appeals to me because then it’s easier to maintain in the future. Whenever I’ve tried more I always get injured. It’s just the guilt that ‘I should be doing more’. Because after his workouts I feel like I’ve barely done anything. One workout for example is 2 sets of squats, 2 sets of rdls and then go home.
@Jordan-j9l3o I understand you pal. Truly. But you HAVE to take out your emotions. Guilty? Lol Training hard along with sustainability is the key. I literally do 1 top set. 2 or 3 warm ups depending and then do 1 set. I did 3 sets for I'd day.. 8 to 12 weeks? Arms grew. But that's more likely due to actually putting effort towards arm training. Everything else? The same. I know I sound like an asshole in my replies (truly am not) but you literally answered your own question or doubt I should say. "Optimal" volume and get injuries here n there Or do the amount that's sensible for YOUR body and sustain those monumental efforts for a life time. You are young, you have years ahead of you before you achieve greatness.. high volume or otherwise. Be smart. Also those influencers don't have the average joe life and some don't even have kids. 9 to 5 or shiftwork + family LITERALLY makes or breaks u. When you reach thst stage, remember what I said to you. Only then you'll understand Jordan.
This is honestly a brilliant response man. You are spot on. I just needed to hear it from someone else. In an effort to chase more gains/volume, I just ended up setting myself back further. I didn’t get any more arm growth, just tendinitis😂. Sometimes you just get grass is greener syndrome and fall down the rabbit hole of TH-cam fitness. People like basement bodybuilding, gvs and natural hypetrophy are great, but we sometimes forget that their whole life and livelihood revolves around the gym. Best option, it seems , is to stick with the polarity approach, and maybe experiment with an extra set here and there. I don’t think this just applies to guys with a lot of responsibilities. Even as a young guy, with no job yet or kids etc, I can’t handle these routines these ‘noble natty’ guys advocate. It’s fun in theory, but in practise you burn out after a week and lose all enthusiasm for the gym. It’s enough work to get in my 10000 steps per day and cook all my meals. And even if it did work better, how would I sustain this when the responsibilities come. Thank you again for opening my eyes to this.
@@Jordan-j9l3o Music to my ears my guy. I promise you, if you do 2 sets instead of 10 but life for 10 + years (with intent) - you'll be at the same physique anyway but 2 years slower or some crap. Just think of enjoyment and consistency. You'll be ok my bro.
I appreciate this video man. I’ve actually been following Rio’s content for 2 years now so I’m talking out of experience. The reason I dislike him is because he is very dogmatic and doesn’t respond to people who slightly question his philosophy. It’s funny you like basement bodybuilding because everything he says is the complete opposite of Rio. I’ve ran polarity routines for over 2 years with less than stellar results. I’m thinking of the next direction to take. I don’t want to be limited by his approach if you get what I mean. I exaggerated that he didn’t look like he lifts. He obviously does, but I don’t think he has the results or experience to claim that his way is the best. I mean, if you are going to put yourself on the internet and claim that your way is the best, you have to be prepared for some hate/criticism. I personally am at a similar strength/muscle level to him.
Hey Jeremiah, Yeah I understand where you are coming from. Bro, if you are young, try out something new man. It won't kill you. You will only learn from it. Optimal is a moving targeting and at different lifestyles, ages (bio and training), dosages of training will be different. It's foolish to assume one thing works and is superior to the other options out there. This 'game' is very dependent on a myriad of different factors.
