A selection of four individual Concert Preludes written by Xander Benham have been performed by a dear friend of his Maarten boogaard. A full set of 24 concert preludes, using the same tonal structure as that of Frederic Chopin and Nikolai Kapustin has been composed in the "fourth-stream" style. This selection of 4 is a glance at this herculean work. Pushing genre forward Xander Benham has provided the piano repertoire with a set of short works which cross the boundaries of classical music (first stream) and jazz (Second stream) then, according to composer Gunther Schuller, anything which combines, distorts and extends the two genres (thrid-stream). Fusing and cross- pollinating the genres with other styles, from nu-jazz through, electro, funk, hip-hop, nouvelle vague, free jazz, improvisation, ambient and specifically in this case techno/house and dance music is the concept behind "fourth-stream" music and this selection.

"Sundial Waltz"
A waltz for one. Someone who had someone but is now only a distant memory. Rousing melodies inspired by soulful house that come bumping into the work later on. Keeping the essence of a waltz, but hitting that sweet spot in order to lift up the listener.
