Excellent! I recognize this one! I've been throat singing for a decade and have recently been taught by Soriah, a local who sings professionally and has won competitions back in Tuva
Perfect for this morning. Sitting back before making breakfast. Very beautiful and so well play. Thought back to the first time I heard You on TH-cam. You were in a little clump of what looked like Aspen trees playing a medley of 3 Irish tunes. That was a bunch of years ago. You've grown.
I have a special relationship with nyckelharpa thanks to my old classmate Åsa Jinder, who was made an official Swedish national player of nyckelharpa at the amazing age of 14... Her father also was one of the renowned builders of the instrument (Curt Einar Jinder, if I recall correctly)... ...Time flies, memory limps... Also a very big fan of Tuvan music, EPI Enkhjargal Dandarvanschig This piece, so beautiful! Per aspera ad astra ars longa vita brevis
I learned this melody in Kyzyl, 2010. It's quite something to have it pop up like this. Especially since it is a fine interpretation. Charash kyz!

I always loved what the resonance strings can do to instruments. Gives a very nice feeling of something pure. It's hard to explain. There's something freeing about it.
Hey awesome sound here. I am Nyckelharpa player in Missouri. Its nice to hear your music, been following you for a few years. I hope the Nyckelharpa scene grows here in the midwest.
@@EmelieWaldken Would you ever tour in the midwest? If so, I'd be happy to go to one of your shows. I bought my Nyckelharpa from doctor in Minnesota, he actually made it himself. But there a lot of folk music festivals in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa and Missouri. If you decide to, that would be cool.
@@jamescoughlin6357 I've been working towards a US tour for a few years now, but it's hella complicated to organise - the nightmare of flying with a nyckelharpa definitely doesn't help.
I am actually working on a clawhammer cover of Jämtländsk Brudmarsch, which is one of my favorite scandi tunes. I was looking to buy a nyckelharpa, but they're prohibitively expensive (plus their strings make them even more so!)
@@Pteromandias LOL I've been working on it for a while. I have the full music sheet on Flat, but it's tricky to nail down all the parts, so I don't feel confident enough to record it yet. I'll make sure to upload it to TH-cam, mention it here and maybe even send her the link the directly, _so I can get senpai's approval_ 🙏😔
Wonderful video, ,music , playing, great work my friend it was a real pleasure to watch and listen to your sharing, thank you, i subbed to you, warm wishes, Alice
You are close, but not quite. It’s certainly not a sweet song. Kongurei is a mourning song, warriors returning from war to see their home destroyed or forever changed. Where is my herd of horses gone? Where are the homes of my people? It is an old, traditional song and many of the nomadic peoples from Tuva, Mongolia, the Altai ranges, the Kazakhs and surrounding lands have a version of it in their own language, but the point remains. It’s a song that may be more prevalent now than ever, with the traditional ways of life receding and mines and industry destroying and poisoning much of Central Asia.
@@BoarhideGaming I mean, thank you for the information, but my subjective impression of the tune was that it was sweet and melancholy. I don't think the backstory is sweet, but the tune still sounded sweet to me.
I do wonder what the Nyckelharpa would be like as a Native Instruments Kontact library, and I also wonder if anyone has made one. If not, I think it would be pretty cool to have, since if done correctly, it would mean another blind accessible software instrument to add to my collection of music tools.
@@EmelieWaldken I can do a little bit of subtone singing but not as good as an experienced throat singer. My overtone singing is even not as good as my subtone singing. I don’t do it often because I think that you can damage your vocal cords if you do it incorrectly.
This is absolutely beautiful, I didn’t knew this instrument and it’s totally mind blowing !!! Keep on playing, this instrument is a treasure and your way to play too, keep both preciously ❤
It was a long piece or did you make it this long? In any case, I love me some longer songs and this one didn't sound repetitive, despite having just a single instrument and no lyrics. Great arrangement.
Thank you ! It's a traditional song that every singer/band performs differently. It's often quite long, with the main theme repeated many, many times. I chose to keep that main style and really take time to let that theme shine, while also adding my own variations to it.
@@EmelieWaldken Very understandable. :) I do hope it came across as a joke by the way, because it was, I'm not in the business of antagonizing the people I look up to. 😅

I do throat singing too, but only covers of Taylor Swift songs. This genre of Tuvan folk music is new to me.
Glad to hear - and you're a multitalented person for real =D
@@Pteromandias Have you any recordings of those taylor swift throat singing covers?
I love this! I listen to a lot of Mongolian and related music and recognized the tune at ~2 min mark. So beautiful on the knykelharpa.

The tune reminds me of Philip Glass (Minimalist Music Composer) towards the end. Very nice! 😎

Entrancing and sublime.
