    I didn’t buy this set but over time I have accumulated almost all the colors from this set except for opera pink. I watched a lot of color swatching/mixing videos and just couldn’t resist the beauty of these colors. Absolutely gorgeous!

    I bought this set last year and loved every single color and still use most of them, buying 15ml when I can. Opera pink was my least used of this set. Nickel Azo Yellow and Red Aussie Gold, Cascade Green a few favorites. Enjoy!

    I really enjoyed this video. I’m getting back to painting after children are grown and I loved the Daniel Smith watercolors in this particular set. I’ll be purchasing them today from your link provided. I have a little grand daughter that will be painting with watercolors and I’m excited to share mine when she’s over visiting… or I’m at their home..

    WAY helpful tip you gave! Newbie here. You said that the 5ml tube fills a pan with possible slight extra. Now I know what I'm comparing when I choose my first set of paints! Thank you!

    I'm sooo glad you did a painting with these colours as swatching videos don't really give you any idea how the colours interact and blend with each other - I just don't get the point of watching a swatching video at all... - your painting turned out lovely, I would never dare to paint anything as busy as that salad!

    I just received the “Colors of Inspiration” half pans from Daniel Smith - also an amazing set - and my first pan purchase from DS (as opposed to tubes). I haven’t even done a painting yet, as I’m busy with oils this week, but it does have quite a few of the same colors. Love Daniel Smith, and having discovered Undersea Green as well as Serpentine Green this week, I’m champing at the bit to paint with them! I’m diving in as soon as I set my canvas aside for my underpaint to dry, and hitting the new watercolors! Thanks for the video - love the salad!

    You are SO talented especially at being able to mix colours and apply them. I bought most of her colours because they were so vibrant and interesting but I didn’t know what subjects they would suit. Your salad was amazing but way over my skill level. Thanks for sharing with us 🌸

    The painting that you produced, which was different to your usual subject matter, is spectacular! You are so talented and inspiring. It isn't just your use of color, the values and lighting in you paintings are always so enticing. Swatching any DS set would be very popular on TH-cam, I didn't realize there are so many sets.

    I got this set last month as a birthday gift and rounded out the palette in almost the same way - Hansa yellow light and french ultramarine. I also added Quin gold, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Potter's Pink, Viridian Green, Cobalt Teal, Cerulean Blue, and Payne's Grey. A word of warning - this set has a lot of granulating, colors. I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the granulation, actually, which surprises me because usually I love granulation. The duotone colors, too, can also throw you off. But it's been fun to work with. Your salad painting came out wonderful.

    I think it would be interesting to see your thoughts on DS's Ultimate Mixing Set (not to be confused with their Essentials Mixing set), which was originally released as Jane Blundell's mixing set. You might have all the colors already and could duplicate it yourself, so you wouldn't need to actually buy it.

    I am a beginner. How do you do transfer lines into the paper? Do you have a tutorial on this process? Thank you.

    • @EmilyOlsonArt
      @EmilyOlsonArt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! I either trace using graphite transfer paper, freehand sketch, or do the sketch on printer paper then transfer. Sometimes I use the grid method with watercolor pencils so that the lines will dissolve.

    This may be a silly question, but did the 5ml tubes fill the entire full pan? Even when dry?

    • @EmilyOlsonArt
      @EmilyOlsonArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some dried up really “tight”, so I could have fit a little more paint, others filled the pans perfectly. Seems like it depends on the colors.

  • @sunnyschramm9650

    I have this set and put them from the Tube in a Pan and almost all are sooo hard to re-wet because they are like gummy after drying 😞 Even putting a lot water in the pans will not effect it - like the gum-binder is like a hard skin "over" the paint and not in the paint...

    • @EmilyOlsonArt
      @EmilyOlsonArt  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, that was not my experience-- so sorry to hear that!

  • @marymccaslin1690
    @marymccaslin1690 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I’m thinking you just had to do plenty of mixing experimentation before painting? That’s the part I struggle with as I don’t intuitively know what colors would go together to create what I’m looking for😢

    • @AyaSmith
      @AyaSmith 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That comes with experience. I can mix any color I want or match any color with any brand or any primaries, intuitively.

    • @everartokelli
      @everartokelli 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also, the paint colors don't have to match the photo or real life exactly, it can add some excitement to your painting to change them up a bit :)

    • @marymccaslin1690
      @marymccaslin1690 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AyaSmith I have been at this for about 5 years and people say, "oh this is a red leaning blue or a green leaning yellow" and I just don't see it...so now I'm just memorizing the necessary information.

    If you need a really nice Caucasian skin tone that is especially good for young children you combine yellow ochre and opera pink!
