the overly dramatic artsy narration style most photography youtubers do literally kept me from getting into photography for years because i am like autistic and it makes it hard to watch
Jack? My god. I have been watching car throttle for years, and I had no clue you were into photography also! Instant sub. I love these style of videos, remind me of the old digitalrev days.
Man I had no idea about this channel, watched car throttle for years, you specifically are a big part of why i got into cars, im a photography student that shoots only on film so this is really perfect, excited to see more!
This is my first video I've ever seen from your channel, and you're funny as fuck and sharp as a tack Definitely will be watching your other videos going forward
Laughing my arse off. Good stuff! 110 pocket film is actually really cool. Just a pain in the ass to scan. And chances are that praktica and chinon only work with batteries because of the light meter blocking the shutter. Some of these only click when they can measure light. Got loads of “broken” cameras that way. Either way, Konica c35/pop is a good call at this price range. The az300 is a gem and they usually fetch way more. I grabbed one recently for 5 bucks at a thrift shop. They are remarkably nice to work with for something so ugly (had one before). Happy to ship it to you for the price of shipping if you want to try it but I warn you; didn’t try it with film, but it does zoom!
had no idea you were into film photography! happy to have stumbled onto this somehow. Guess the algorithm from watching CT and my new digital photography hobby worked. Subscribed.
I can't do this anymore... These jokes in between with the mix of real analog problems and hurdles 😂 definitely keep it up, ultra amusing and great pictures for the requirements you had with the cameras
I clicked on this video randomly from my feed and was pleasantly surprised to find someone from the other side of my TH-cam algorithm presenting. When worlds collide!
Haha, brilliant! Yes. Do it again! By the way - yes, you can use the FL breech lock lenses and FD and NFD lenses on the FT. (I have 2 videos on those 50mms, but I still lack the chrome nose model you have to complete the trilogy).
So my 2 hobbies are cars and cameras… especially film cameras… just discovered this channel and cannot believe it was you! Been subbed to CT for years but subbed here today!!
So happy that TH-cam recommended this video for me. I think you have a bright future 😊😁 I found a folding Kodak for £8 at some store which seemed to be in working condition, but nowhere is good as your canon, of course! Keep up the great work
I subscribed to this channel yonks ago and have only just clicked you're the same fella I watch suffer with average cars too. How good. Those Canon FTs are pretty good little units, I bet that film had torn the sprocket holes before so it was blank because it never advanced.
I've been using an FT-QL that I dug out of a heap in a car-boot sale as my main 35mm SLR for a good few years now, it's my favourite SLR to go ambling about with. It cleaned up nice into a solid fully-mechanical camera, and I've since put all sorts of film through the thing. I've taken it up mountains, into snow, out to sea, and I've had a go at using it in a studio setting a time or two! It certainly does have quirks like the ones you ran into, but nothing too crazy. One thing to note is that the light meter takes 1.3 volt batteries as opposed to the more modern 1.5 volts. You can get little step-down converters that fill the space of the old battery that a modern button cell sits snugly into, which drops the voltage to what's needed. Every FD lens (both breech lock and the FDn type) I've thrown onto that FL mount has worked just as it should, without any problems. If you do choose to keep yours, I hope it serves you well!
You have to be lucky with two things. You have to find them with people who don't know what they are worth or with thrift stores that don't know what they are worth.
I have a favourite camera shop, which is actually a small section of an antique centre, the guy who runs it is super nice and the cameras are £20-25 for brands like pentax, chinon etc. Proper nice cameras. I got a chinon prinzflex ttl, lovely full metal body camera for £25. From a different part of the antique centre there was a shelf of really old cameras. Got a Kodak instamatic 100 for £3.
Just found your channel and thoroughly enjoyed the humor of this experience! I think I bought one of those Olympus Super Zooms a while back but haven’t shot a roll yet. This may just inspire me to do so sooner than later.
Ha! I brought one of those Olympus AZ Superzooms last year. And the zoom works unlike my mom... Anyway, it is bloody massive and i haven't got through a roll yet so no idea if my mediocre photography is a match for it. Top notch video. Much better than that Autoalex channel
Came here to watch as it came up on my recommended as my last film camera I bought on ebay for the winning bid of £28 which I currently use. Even better is it was a Canon AV-1 with a 35-105mm lens. Also never expected this video would be by Jack Joy. Subscribed
Worth it just for the Canon FT and 50mm lens alone... You could always sell the olympus superzoom as "spares or reoairs' and get some of your £20 back?😊
I'm just amazed your thrift shops had this many cameras! The best I usually find is already-used disposable cameras and 50 diseases I didn't know existed.
that ft was my first camera! I inherited it from my grampa who was a war journalist which is what I'm on the track to becoming, (he was a reporter but I'm mainly a photographer) so in a way that camera put me on the track! I've got a few font memorys of starting film photography with it!
Just bought my first film camera for 20€, a Porst Reflex C-TL with 3 lenses, 2 rolls of film and some filters and stuff, looking forward to getting my first film developed
I was like woah I recognize this voice...how do I know this voice...then I saw your face...fuck that's familiar...then I was like oh man, he does cars too. Slick to see you branch out. Cool vid.
I fuckin love your stuff. You’re like the Anthony Bourdain of photography youtubers. Just not American, poor and alive. Keep doing videos. They’re rad. If you setup a buymeacoffee, I’ll buy you that fucking coffee.
Loved this video. I am always keeping an eye out for a bargain camera. I purchased an Olympus XA for $3 US. Works great! Did not know what it was until I researched it. Found out it is a Cult Following camera. It is the first model and a true very compact Range Finder.
The FD lenses DO work on the older cameras that use FL lenses. I have a Canonflex RM and I have got a few FD lenses to throw on it since they are much more available!
"I'm sorry if you're a die hard fan"... No worries, I don't think either of them are watching 🤣 Good find on the QL though, they're pretty tidy. Those 50mm f1.8's are quite decent. How was the focus/aperture on it? I had an f1.4 from the same series which had been in an attic for about 2 decades. All the grease had separated and the oil ran onto the blades leaving the wax behind gumming up the helicoid. That was a fun 8 hour session rebuilding it.... And when I say fun, I mean like the kind of fun you get from a paper cut.
I love those Canon F series SLRS. Some of the best affordable, all mechanical film cameras. I have the FX personally, which is the previous model to the FP QL and only differs in lacking quick load and ttl metering.
Can I just say a huge thank you. It's refreshing to find a film TH-camr who doesn't speak softly over the sound of lofi beats.
With a grainy filter, taking pictures of exclusively landscapes
@@MrStruggle0hahaha you guys are funny why do 99% of tubers do that?
@@MandyJessicaCupcheck There's a success pattern on this apparently, lots of hipsters around...
@@MandyJessicaCupcheck On the other hand, it kinda keeps the film alive so... 😅
the overly dramatic artsy narration style most photography youtubers do literally kept me from getting into photography for years because i am like autistic and it makes it hard to watch
Not only only does he talk about film photography, he makes jokes about my mother and is mean to me. Subscribed .
I don't care that you don't post monthly or weekly. I love your videos so much, it's always worth the wait when one drops!
Jack? My god. I have been watching car throttle for years, and I had no clue you were into photography also! Instant sub. I love these style of videos, remind me of the old digitalrev days.
I thought I recognised him from somewhere 🤔
I spent the whole vid thinking 'He's a lot like that fella off car throttle'. Thanks for clearing that up 😂
Man I had no idea about this channel, watched car throttle for years, you specifically are a big part of why i got into cars, im a photography student that shoots only on film so this is really perfect, excited to see more!
Was about to post something similar. Insta-sub!!
Welcome back, man! Don't stop the "your mom" jokes, that's the main reason I subscribed!
Hahaha ok will do
Criminally underrated film channel.
Hey! Happy to see another post from you! FD and a 50mm for that price is a total bargain! Spent twice as much as that on my FTB body alone!
Nice one. Glad to hear I didn't do too badly then
Brilliant as always, good to have you back! Love the copy of that Dixons catalogue. "FOR PEOPLE WITH SMALL POCKETS".
Your channel deserves far more exposure, great stuff.
this is by far the best film yt channel
Such a refreshing feeling finding someone talk about your interests in a funny and genuine authentic way
This is my first video I've ever seen from your channel, and you're funny as fuck and sharp as a tack
Definitely will be watching your other videos going forward
Was worried I was the only one that found UK antiques markets to be a crimescene of overpriced old cameras! I’m glad he knocked those two down though
Dude, this is too funny, great job on the script!
Awesome video, your style fricking sarcastic - genius. Keep this style forever because this feels real. 😆😆
Would be cool if you were able to do one video a month or so. Really enjoy your humour and perspective. Great deal btw!
Nice one, thanks, I'm working on it
As if one of the greatest car presenters on YT is also into film photography. Awesome content mate, really enjoyed.
I don't think I've subscribed to anyone so fast! Brilliant video.
This was one of the funniest film videos I’ve seen in a while
Peak comedy and a photographer. Instant sub. Cheers my dood
Big fan of this. Always knew you were the brains behind the other operation.
such a difficult thing to make videos entertaining while talking about cameras but you did it! love the content
I don't even shoot film, but your videos are too hilarious I just had to subscribe.
Loved this video can’t wait to see more of this style!!
Keep doing film camera vids ❤️❤️❤️ I’m a photography student and artist so it’s very awesome to watch things like this
i hope your channel pops off. theres too many photography based channels that take themselves too seriously and its refreshing seeing one like this
Laughing my arse off. Good stuff!

Absolute legend 🙌 banger of a video as usual. You are my hero.
had no idea you were into film photography! happy to have stumbled onto this somehow. Guess the algorithm from watching CT and my new digital photography hobby worked. Subscribed.
clicked on this video not realising that it was jack from car throttle lol
Also just subbed hope to see more! Great video jack.
I can't do this anymore... These jokes in between with the mix of real analog problems and hurdles 😂 definitely keep it up, ultra amusing and great pictures for the requirements you had with the cameras
Enjoyed this hilarious video very much.
I clicked on this video randomly from my feed and was pleasantly surprised to find someone from the other side of my TH-cam algorithm presenting. When worlds collide!
It's hard to binge your videos when you can't be arsed to make many!
I rarely do this - but I subcribed and belled your channel halfway through watching the video.
Guess I’ve found my new favourite photography channel
Damn this was enjoyable to watch
As soon as you named the Olympus I laughed out loud!
Haha, brilliant! Yes. Do it again!
By the way - yes, you can use the FL breech lock lenses and FD and NFD lenses on the FT. (I have 2 videos on those 50mms, but I still lack the chrome nose model you have to complete the trilogy).
Just watched all your vids Jack, great work, and also subbed 👍
So my 2 hobbies are cars and cameras… especially film cameras… just discovered this channel and cannot believe it was you! Been subbed to CT for years but subbed here today!!
"20 pounds to buy a film camera" slaps down a Canon 7, which would either be a steal or was stolen XD. That intro definitely got my attention!
Loved this, looking forward to seeing more
This video was a banger. Great writing.
aint this the bloke that does the car stuff
So happy that TH-cam recommended this video for me. I think you have a bright future 😊😁

I like car throttle but this is better!
The camera goat returns

my first film camera was the FTb ! The QL is just heavenly, I wish more cameras from that period had it. great video 🎉
QL loading is actually great. Genuinely better to put film in than any Leica.
You have to be lucky with two things. You have to find them with people who don't know what they are worth or with thrift stores that don't know what they are worth.
Cool finds! Cooler photos! Right on man!
Damn, this channel is great. So glad the algorithm funneled it my way :)
Best broken camera taking a photo of best broken car
I have a favourite camera shop, which is actually a small section of an antique centre, the guy who runs it is super nice and the cameras are £20-25 for brands like pentax, chinon etc. Proper nice cameras. Hilarious! 😂 Thanks 👍 More of this, please!
No way Jack from car throttle does photography never knew as I’m a beginner photographer and a car enthusiast ahaha instant sub when I saw this dude
Exactly same!! I saw his film camera in the nc500 episode but I wasn’t expecting this!
Ha! I brought one of those Olympus AZ Superzooms last year. And the zoom works unlike my mom... Anyway, it is bloody massive and i haven't got through a roll yet so no idea if my mediocre photography is a match for it. Top notch video. Much better than that Autoalex channel
Brilliant vid! I want more!!!
wish the film gods would bless me in such ways, all I get is existential misery and overpriced tat at every single antique/charity shop I go to.
Came here to watch as it came up on my recommended as my last film camera I bought on ebay for the winning bid of £28 which I currently use. Even better is it was a Canon AV-1 with a 35-105mm lens. Also never expected this video would be by Jack Joy. Subscribed
Cars and film will always go hand in hand.
£20 Leica is just paying a dude in the alleyway to rush into the Leica store and grabbing the first M3 he sees.. 😂
This video is golden 😍 but that camera for that price 👀 I need to find hidden gems like this
never knew I'd be watching you make camera content and not playing with cars haha
Like 2 weeks ago I found a mint Argus c3 in a antique store, thing is built SOLID and it’s got a great lens. For $20 it will give you great photos
They are also everywhere here in America
Worth it just for the Canon FT and 50mm lens alone...
You could always sell the olympus superzoom as "spares or reoairs' and get some of your £20 back?😊
I feel like I’m being attacked simply by watching the video, subscribed
Your video makes absolute sense and so did i. And subscribed😂❤
I'm just amazed your thrift shops had this many cameras!
The best I usually find is already-used disposable cameras and 50 diseases I didn't know existed.
You make camera videos?? How am i only just finding this out?! Instant sub
hallarious and informative, thank you 😭
I absolutely love this!!!
Great stuff Jackie boyyyyyyy
that ft was my first camera! I inherited it from my grampa who was a war journalist which is what I'm on the track to becoming, (he was a reporter but I'm mainly a photographer) so in a way that camera put me on the track! I've got a few font memorys of starting film photography with it!
Fantastic video, make me LOL multiple times
Imagine my shock as a car throttle fan to find the same exists for photography, by the same host!
If unsure, always open a sketch camera in a dark bag or in a darked out space. rip that old roll lol.
I love those old Canon slr cameras! I’ve got about a half dozen of them. That was a good buy!
man, your daddy jokes are the best. i'm subscribed only because of the attitude and whole "who gives a fuck" theme thru your videos. keep it rolling!
Cool vid.
Great finds for 20 quid. Got my canon t70 for 20 quid and absolutely love it.
Wait wait arent you the guy from Car Throttle or am I hallucinating? Great vid tho!
I fuckin love your stuff. You’re like the Anthony Bourdain of photography youtubers. Just not American, poor and alive.
Keep doing videos. They’re rad. If you setup a buymeacoffee, I’ll buy you that fucking coffee.
Hold on, aren’t you the guy on car throttle?
Loved this video. I am always keeping an eye out for a bargain camera. I purchased an Olympus XA for $3 US. Works great! Did not know what it was until I researched it. Found out it is a Cult Following camera. It is the first model and a true very compact Range Finder.

Subscribed for the £20 taxidermy challenge
You just gotta love cameras with mystery desert fresh film in them 😁
Please post more videos ❤❤❤
great video
i not shitting you jack, bought a superzoom from a fucking charity shop a month back and it got some sick shots for a tenner
I love those Canon F series SLRS. Some of the best affordable, all mechanical film cameras. I have the FX personally, which is the previous model to the FP QL and only differs in lacking quick load and ttl metering.
