Years later I still get drawn to Jesse's music with an absolute need once I get the itch to listen. He was an amazing song writer and had the GIFT of music and heart. Forever classics that patina with time getting better and better. As my life and struggle continues and evolves so does my relationship with his stories he told as only he could. The wold has lost a great soul. I hope all of his fans keep his memory alive for decades to come and keep sharing his music and revisiting it to make sure his struggle was not in vain or to be forgotten. We have lost too many good people and we need to honor them. Too many too young too robbed of opportunity. We need to do better as friends and family and try to help each other more. These cycles of addictions and traumas and pains need to be broken and it starts with the individual. God Bless Jesse and RIP to all who are lost but not forgotten.
The song sounds like desparate despair and longing for someone or something, thinly wrapped as if addiction. Maybe addiction plays out like that, idk I like "stuff" but don't get hooked.
I've always been pissed with the people talking over him, but now he's gone, I've realised we need to thank them for recording it, this performance was just for his work buddy's, thank fuck they recorded it!
Good job! May you continue to grow and heal and life the life that Jesse's disease took from him & the ones he harmed. I just hit 17 months the other day myself.
to hear his voice echo as he yelled the line "Get a road soak, cold pop, two-four Wob pop, pop top, twist top, tall boy, cold shot" was insane and had such emotion
Most people leave this world with much less of a lasting legacy than this song. Hope you find solace in the afterlife and appreciate this gem you left us all while you were here.
This video single-handedly changed my taste in music. I was a bored hip-hop head when I first heard it, dived into folk punk with Days N Daze and Railyard ghosts, then moved to Southern Gothic country, and eventually indy country with artists like Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers etc. I'll always have an appreciation for this one. RIP Jesse, thank you for expanding my horizons.
I rarely listened to anything like this till i started to teach my self guitar, i was a hiphop/Club/house/edm head. You should check out > •"Justin Johnson - Old School Acoustic Blues _LaidBack" •"Old LeatherStocking - (any song)" •"SleepingGiants - Middle Finger" If they seem interesting I can rattle of a few more you may like. @Crazy Jesse as Jessie mentioned the words in that are not all correct and that's one of them... The songs written by Donnie dumphy and it goes like two ducks stuck.
Came back just to hear a song that always brought a smile to my face only to learn about his passing. Treasure your moments on this earth as our time is fleeting. Here's a cold beer to all the souls listening to this in 2022.
I had no idea he had died… Jesse, you were the reason I bought a mandolin couple years back. I still can’t strum like you did and hell, the shit goes out of tune by the time I reach the chorus of this song. But I’ll be tuning it tonight, cold beer forever. Rest easy❤️

Rest In Peace to one of my good friends, Jesse Shea Stewart. July 18, 1990 - November 22, 2021 I wish I could have done better for you as a friend here in Edmonton, I consider you my best friend. You and Arlo and Evan this summer, banjo and acoustic at the river, 15 packs of beers in July, just jamming and basking in the sun. And when we’d order skip and watch Rick and Morty and you’d sing to your own songs on TH-cam to me in my living room ugh Arlo on the couch. I’m really gonna fucking miss you. I hope Arlo makes it home safe to your mama and most of all, you as well. Safe travels and may you Rest In Peace with the creator. Jesse. Until we meet again. 🖤 Sunshine
MY condolences to you for your loss. I think, through his passionate art, many of us who happened upon it here and elsewhere feel a kinship to him but even as saddened as I am by this news it is undoubtedly a huge loss for those who considered him a true friend or loved one. I spent this last year in Europe, once in Galway Ireland a street busker was singing cold beer and once in a rural town in France a busker was singing marauder. I know he had certain difficulties and am sad for his passing, but as a BC boy myself it’s amazing to see the reach of his legacy all over
I'm a little german woman. I was in an evening college (?) with a dude who listened to jesse on a regular basis. He tried to play the guitar and ukulelee like jesse and he got the same spirit eventually. We loved listening to him in the breaks we had. i read about jesses death a few weeks ago and I'm feeling heavy. Not sad per sé, but heavy. It definitely left a mark.
I was checking my Facebook timeline at 6 this morning and came across this. Had to run a 5k race at 8am. Best believe I ran that 3.1 miles in 20 fucking minutes with this song on repeat. I get chills when I randomly stumble on something this beautiful. This man's soul is a celestial inferno burning through his music. I can't stop listening.
+Denkart He actually didn't write the song, the way it's played by him is all him though. It's a cover of the Comedy song Cry tunes by Donnie Dumphy. Donnie Dumphy is a character of the stereotypical view of newfies. It's really amazing that he took something that was supposed to be funny, and give it such feeling and emotion. He has actually cover'd a few of Donnie's songs in his own style.
The passion and just "moment" you had with this song will never happen again, a studio version won't do justice to what you did this day. It's a unicorn.

Half of us there knew that this was a masterpiece. Fucking idiot riley (or whatever the fuck his name is) with the camera and his bottle - but the rest of us knew that this was the show of a lifetime. I was sitting beside the cameraman.
I keep coming back to this nearly 10 years later. Something about a rough artist with a beautiful voice, will always be eternally relatable and a pure moment in time.
he sings it like his last song. serious, meaningful, he is a great person for laying it out with no regrets and expectations. just enjoying the moment.
I had the pleasure of being Facebook friends with Jesse. It's how I found out about his passing. He never came across the border to my state. I was just a random fan who friend requested him and he graciously accepted. We'd have random talks about video games and how messed up the world is. He always gave me the time of day and talked to me like a friend. The world lost a true DIY spirited and kind individual.

I identify with Reckful A LOT. We were born a month apart. He was myself if I wasn't so much of a fuck up. We went through the same phases, gaming, breaking long term relationships, poker, stocks, trying to find something more interesting. His passing is the only death that ever affected me outside of my family. Here I am, drunk, revisiting one of my favorite songs and see him mentioned. I never knew he enjoyed it too. Lost my brother on November 16th, checking out his TH-cam history, he played this song over 2500 times. He really enjoyed your energy. Stay pure, enjoy your experience.
I'm very sorry for your loss of your brother, however, this song seems to really encourage addiction to alcohol and basically giving up to happy life that could be brought on by anything healthy. I find it traumatizing actually. Your name is Scottish right? I wonder if you and your brother have stayed close to your culture, heritage and lineage? I believe it is a cure to feeling lost and just roaming around, potentially even help prevent addiction.
It is a great cover. They wanted him to play it on the episode of trailer park boys he was on, but the owner said no, so he had to play liquor and whores.

The song sounds like desparate despair and longing for someone or something, thinly wrapped as if addiction.
Maybe addiction plays out like that, idk I like "stuff" but don't get hooked.
The song is about alcoholism. I find it funny yet sad, even haunting. A great tune to say the least.

Whats up with the self pity, jesus christ
You got that right matt
I kinda get broken when it comes to emotion
Makes me start choking
So I, sit by the ocean
Spent my last buck on a bottle of whiskey
Drunk and broke
Sittin' here in history
I made my mind up
How I'm going
I got no where to go
Don't know where I'm going
I do know one thing
One thing that is true
Wherever I go, I'm gonna need you
We just cant let each other go there
We're too close, to ever slow down
The only one who keeps my chin up
When you touch my lips we're like two dogs stuck
Cold, cold beer
Don't you ever worry
I am right here
Never live without you
Don't care what I amount to, no
Cold, cold beer
Don't you ever worry, I am right here
Can't ever live without you
I wouldn't even worry to know
I pick you up
I take you home
Sit on my couch, turn off my phone
'Cause I love your taste, love your smell
Who would ever thought that we could do so well
Hell, I guess we're meant for each other
Sorta like the microphone and my buddy Bruce Buffer
I can't really express my joy
Sorta like a scrap between Osgood and Patty Roy
I cant take my eyes off you
Went to rehab, thought that I lost you
But now we're are back together, with a vengeance
Must be my little, Irish descendants
It feels pretty good, to get this off my chest
Even though people sayin, Jesse's obsessed
Well maybe I am, maybe their right
One thing that I know, it was love at first sight
Yeah, cold cold beer
Don't you ever worry I am right here
Can never live without you
You care what I amount to
Cold, cold beer
Don't you ever worry
I am right here
Never live without you
I wouldn't even worry to know
Well I'm sitting on my stoop feelin' kinda lonely
Me and Brenda fightin' so I call up the homies
But guys busy hangin' out in front of Sobey's
There's only one little fella who really knows me
He comes in a little brown, bottle or can
Sits in my hand til I can barely stand
He's part of the family, he's part of the team
Took me under his wing when I was just a teen
Every time he comes around he always
Takes me back to when I had a fake ID, and a little dirt stash
