Cracking video Steve. The City of Dan was an area that had doss houses that were known by tramps throughout the East Midlands. Dan was a tribe of Israel that were wanderers with no fixed abode just like the tramps and the area in Whitwick became known as the City of Dan. Apparently Severn Trent have all those culverts mapped, you can request a copy from the Severn Trent website.
Another very interesting video Steve, so thanks for the upload. I really hope that you don't mind me making what I hope you see as a constructive point, and its something that I've also said to other TH-camrs like Martin Zero. Having worked for the Emergency Services for nearly three decades I'm well aware of the dangers of these locations, that young impressionable people, particularly boys similar to your lads age, can be drawn towards. No one could predict a flash flood occurring many miles away, or indeed a Water Authority carrying out a procedure that very quickly floods these locations without notice. TH-camrs tend to get more daring as time goes on, so having put the mockers on your Sat night, I ask that you consider the fact that someone else's lad may not come home because of their inspiration from a TH-cam video. You & your pals seem very sensible, but these are dangerous locations. Once again, very interesting though.
I remember going under there back in the 80's, I'm pretty sure one of the manholes leads out next to Wards chippy. There was also a manhole leading down to a chamber in the field at the back end of Hermitage lake , close to the end of Hermitage Road.
@@danflowers9405 😆 I got lucky when I did it, it didn't quite go over my wellies. I'm fortunate with 🕷 because they don't actually bother me. Usually when I'm in these places my head gets covered in webs!
Not sure you should be doing that but it's very interesting. Don't go down there if the Brook is more full. It fills up with water and you won't be able to get back out.
did you try lift the walkway grating up at the end to get out? ive fitting that grating in a warehouse catwalk before just not sure if they would bolt it down there incase it gets robbed, i will prob try this on one of my next vids thanks to you anyway! im also local and is a cool spot, seen the entrance and didnt know it was this big!
Yeah it's not a bad little noseh this to be honest, nice and easy. I usually like older culverts in brick, but with how local and easy this is, it was a no brainer.
Good channel. 👍 The car park opposite the chippie used to be a chapel and the brook used to be open there, in fact along most of its route, before being totally enclosed. First time we went through was during the drought of 76. Mind you, you had to watch out for Mrs Roome who lived at the 'castle', she'd be chasing you off sharpish!

It's trippy walking through that culvert at dusk.
It's a nice little local nugget this is
@@LeiceExplore Do I just pass under the St John the Baptist Church culvert and walk on to follow your route?
I Took my Daughter with me today to look ourselves. what an experience that were 😂 great video
Nice one Dan! It is a great little culvert that, pretty much going through the historical part of the village
@@LeiceExplore yeah it was great apart from all the spiders I came across 🤣 and knee deep in water

He's had it on before this video
I left Coalville (Hugglescote) in 1976.
It is really weird to watch this.
What does that drain go under?
City of Dan... bottom of Leicester Road... before they put the bars in I wally wanted to go down but was to afraid as a kid lol
I've always been sticking my nose in these places!

I only go in them in dry weather, never in high water or rain

We accessed this kinda at the side of castle street, near an alley
@@LeiceExplore ah yeah round the back of the church?
We were going through here in the mid 70s...
