Lyrics:
There's guns across the river aimin' at ya
Lawman on your trail, he'd like to catch ya
Bounty hunters, too, they'd like to get ya
Billy, they don't like you to be so free.
Campin' out all night on the berenda
Dealin' cards 'til dawn in the hacienda
Up to Boot Hill they'd like to send ya
Billy, don't you turn your back on me.
Playin' around with some sweet senorita
Into her dark hallway she will lead ya
In some lonesome shadows she will greet ya
Billy, you're so far away from home.
There's eyes behind the mirrors in empty places
Bullet holes and scars between the spaces
There's always one more notch and ten more paces
Billy, and you're walkin' all alone.
They say that Pat Garrett's got your number
So sleep with one eye open when you slumber
Every little sound just might be thunder
Thunder from the barrel of his gun.
Guitars will play your grand finale
Down in some Tularosa alley,
Maybe in the Rio Pecos valley
Billy, you're so far away from home.
There's always some new stranger sneakin' glances
Some trigger-happy fool willin' to take chances
And some old whore from San Pedro to make advances
Advances on your spirit and your soul.
The businessmen from Taos want you to go down
They've hired Pat Garrett to force a showdown.
Billy, don't it make ya feel so low-down
To be shot down by the man who was your friend?
Hang on to your woman if you got one
Remember in El Paso, once, you shot one.
She may have been a whore, but she was a hot one
Billy, you been runnin' for so long.
Guitars will play your grand finale
Down in some Tularosa alley
Maybe in the Rio Pecos valley
Billy, you're so far away from home.

I mean, come on. Why is this one so underrated. Some of the finest music Dylan ever recorded.
Hi, I don’t think it’s underrated. Every true Fan of Bob, like/love it.
It’s that kind of melody that goes to the heart, the lyrics are great.
Bob/Alias are gorgeous 🙏💙💕
Hi back. I appreciate that. You can't put it better than that. It goes to the ❤️ because Dylan poured his in it. You can feel it from the first note, to the last one.
This and Highway 61 are my fave Dylan records, i have worn them out.
Two of his best. 😉
Just because he went to Mexico to record it.
Patt: times have changed billy..
Billy: times maybe!!, not me!
The movie will never get old
Billy: few months in Mexico are not so bad......Alias: depends who you are.....ain't that something?
How he just soaked up the mood of horse trails and outlaws. You can almost taste the dust!
Amazing.
Never admit that pal or youll be eating somecunts dust forever "first among equals" remember ✌
I'm hearing you bro 👍🤘❤️
@shuddupeyaface, Jesus Christ said in the New Testament! To watch out for the laws in small towns! He was right! My name is Lewis Robert Burton Jr!
A wonderful film, a wonderful soundtrack
Soundtrack of a frustrating time in my youth when everyday I felt I was being chased, "so far from home" But I am still here 45 years latter. Life is good, choose life!
Yes.
hell ya brother
Always chose life it will work out no matter how dark it looks just then!
Masterpiece from the summer of my years.
Same here….from my mid 20’s….but in 1994
the summer of your ears .. nicely phrased
This just may be Dylan's most underrated songs. The harmonica itself is as poetic as good poetry. And poetry is one of Dylan's strong suits.
Great harmonica
That's a fantastic comment
Darkness at the break of noon

tamo junto !!!
Aníbal Filho, curtindo em 2023! Obra prima da cultura musical!
Tamo junto irmão! É uma das minhas preferidas!
Tmj !
Bob Dylan + Meu amigo Pedro

Possible Dylans most under-rated album. Speaking from experience, I overlooked it because its mostly instrumentals, even though 'knockin' on heavens door' is one of my all time favorites. I played it on cd and left it on repeat. It really drew me in and this is one of my favorites of all. Well done.
I remember that Rolling Stone journalist spit all over the whole album. Well, almost whole because they mentioned that only "Knocking on heavens door" mildly reminds them on old Dillan... What an idiot!
I love this song dylans voice is just perfect for it ❤️
Yes in deed.
2022 and still listening. 🎼🎶🎸
Billy, they don't like you to be so free
They don't like anyone to be so free.
Hey, I still left LINCOLN Hi
@@robertcabrera8228 We will never forget you Billy.
To me, one of the best harmonica intros by anyone! He practically tells Billy's whole story in just a few lyrics. When I listen to this album, it makes me forget about all the other indescribable records he has graced us with. Such is the genius of Dylan.
@@robertwoodward9231makes me forget about everything in the world even myself. 💛🙏🏻
Drink 6 oz of whiskey then watch the movie (directors cut) . You will have a new appreciation of how great it is.
Best fucking song ever I feel it in my heart Bobby I really do. Speaks of how the laws that be aren't always right they just have the power to say it's wrong or right. What's wrong is those pinkerton mofos stealing land and shooting people who object.
I love Billy the kid!!! Also I love the movie with Bob Dylan, sad ending, when Pat Garrett ambushed him 😢, totally sucks 😢
Love this and the harmonica is thrilling! Thank you!✨🤍✨
Billy 1
Bob Dylan
Talvez no vale do Rio Pecos
Billy, você está tão longe de casa
Há sempre algum novo estranho espiando
Algum tolo no gatilho querendo arriscar
Talvez no vale do Rio Pecos
Billy, você está tão longe de casa

Dude I listen to this all the time friggin awesome 👌
The harp, one my favorites all time..
Me too.
I love all versions of Billy
01:50 "Bounty hunters, too
They'd like to get ya."
Fantastic song.
Great movie, "keep the change."
This music is the HIGHLIGHT of a pretty good movie. For my 2 cents worth, one of the 2 best scenes Hollywood ever came up with is where Slim Pickens and his wife go to the river as Slim passes away after being gutshot aand the play "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" in the background. and the other is when he rides that bomb out of "Dr. Strangelove".
" Hey Silva , you remember that meeting between John Jones and that old man they called U . S. Christmas down there in El Rito ? "
Probably one of his best songs he ever did.I never heard of it. Until I just saw the show!
These songs make proud to form new mexico!
@danielroybal4724, You think killing me is going to get your wife Christie back! My name is Lewis Robert Burton Jr!
Bob. he is soul. a prophet. Listened to him for decades or three.
It broke my heart
I'll sing you a true song of Billy the Kid
I'll sing of some desperate deeds that he did
'Way out in New Mexico long long ago
When a man's only chance was his own forty-four
When Billy the Kid was a very young lad
In old Silver City he went to the bad
'Way out in the West with a gun in his hand
At the age of twelve years he did kill his first man
There's Mexican maidens play guitars and sing
Songs about Billy, their boy bandit king
'Ere his young manhood has reached his sad end
With a notch an his pistol for twenty one men!
Was on a sad night when poor Billy died
He said to his friend, "I'm not satisfied
There's twenty one men I have put bullets through
Sheriff Pat Garrett must make twenty two!"
I'll sing you how Billy the Kid met his fate
The bright moon was shinin', the hour was late
Shot down by Pat Garrett who once was his friend
The young outlaw's life is now come to an end
There's many a man with a face fine and fair
Who start out in life with a chance to be square
Just like poor Billy they wander astray
They'll lose their lives in the very same way!
The best soundtrack Ever
Added to the soundtrack of my "Celebration of life"...Hopefully far, far off.
This song reminds me of a cold night in real the 14, mexico drinking out with friends.... Mega
Masterpiece
Is this the full version of this song ?
In the description of the song, there are much more lyrics than In this version.
seems he's singing to every outlaw-at-heart... as well as the one who lives inside of me... when I feel so far away from home...
do not follow that "outlaw" in you, just recognize him
Discovered this in a used record shop during a Dylan phase in my 20’s…..GRAND SLAM…used to listen to it all the time during my speed years…so deep….goosebumps all the time ….this and Manfred Man Roar of Silence album…and Sailor by Steve Miller….greatest results on taking a chance
I’ve been an outlaw all my life
My all time favorite.the movie is the greatest ever made.
Wow….you mean that…..thanx for the comment
My favorite Bob Dylan Album!
Me too and bringing it all back home….
On of the most unterrated songs. Thumbs up guys
Veranda? An outer patio area? Berenda? A river in California? All these years I've been singing "veranda".
Billy, you're so far away from home.
By God, as a cowboy movie addict from preschool days of Roy Rogers into adulthood, the movie was a mediocre example raised to top level by the soundtrack, totally matching the angst of the cowboys I grew up with.
Billy "hey pat" " don't push your luck hoss"
Pat " ain't my luck um worried about "
Maybe thats the source of the loneliness that covers Billy and this story, that two friends had to find themselves in that place. Dylan takes me body n sole to that place where u feel Billy's lonely melancholy every time I hear this song. every blow of that harp puts me rite on that veranda .
It's really about himself. That's what bearing your heart and soul sounds like.
I recorded this movie because it had Kris kristofferson in it at first I didn't care for the movie and was going to delete it but I gave it some more time and it turned out I really liked the movie I'm glad I decided to watch more ...Steve D p.s. great song
Think i saw the movie in 1970, Beautiful music from the movie
Actually can you play this version at my funeral?
Great film Great music
My hairs always stand up on "Billy don't you turn your back on me"
So easy to forget that Billy is the bad guy. He really is not a good man at all. Kris just charmed as all into forgetting.
yeah a guy told me his fam knew billy and talked stink about him. i live in a town he used to live or hang out. the gangs he fought was not angels either that was a wild and wooly time
Just 3 chords for such a masterpierce...
I listened to knockin on heaven's door and someone left a comment that the ORIGINAL by Guns and Roses was better. Smh. I can imagine how horrible this soundtrack for the movie would have been if they did the entire thing.
this is the original
I.dont.give.a.fuck.wath.u.say..I'm.palying.it.4.me.ok.
“Into her dark hallway she will lead ya..”

Hey you Zimmerman. Do you think you could write some cowboy aside tunes?
Frikadel et virginie
Never gets old.
Loved this album.
Hard times days respect to all the outlaws RIP boyz & girlz 🎉
On many levels this album shines with his genius.
"There's eyes behind the mirrors in empty places
Bullet holes and scars between the spaces"
Oh yeah...
Yup. Why didn't I say that?
Had this cassette in my 01 Black Explorer. Got me through a hard time
@therenewwedpoet4292, I'm white male! PuNK! My name is Lewis Robert Burton Jr!
Bob Dylan has of course influenced Nick Cave like so many other artists, but I can only imagine how much this album in particular has influenced Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. I hear this influence in so many soundtracks done by this duo over the years.
The reason - I play mouth some times
Billy don't you turn your back on me.
Meu amigo Pedro - Raúl Seixas vs Billy 1 - Bob Dylan?
There is a bar,
and yer friends are there ..
waiting
Dylan wrote Wagon Wheel, pass it on...

Dispara rápido y se preciso.

Good hamonica . l love this song.
So amazing..telling billies story in just three stanzas!
Must know your history as in lots of Bob's stuff..
Veliki čovjek,the Great men
11 years ago, I created a character centered during the time of Billy the Kid for a role playing game. Said character was not involved with events but did meet the Kid twice, as a ferrier and looking for missing cattle that were not a result of cattle rustlers. I did a lot of digging into the era, learned a great deal, watched several movies plus soundtracks and documentaries. I missed the ost to Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. As a fictionized tale, it stands the test of time.
Love the lyrics too...in it`s right time somehow, and beautiful!
Billy you're so far away from home
YES 😎- he can also be an actor ! !!
70's best of the best man, this music moves the soul, relaxed.
We dressed as Cowboys with toy six guns when we saw the movie. One of the best nights, watching Alias name canned goods and watching slim Pickens in the sunset while knocking on heavens door played for the first time.
I am the girl from time out of mind 😢
So good. This album and film had a huge impact on me.
Negativei todo mundo
I read I am 64 years old I remember when they were making the movie Dylan was in Mexico with the filming he walked into the studio with a bottle of tequila probably blew some weed some coke and recorded this it’s so awesome my favorite he captured the times the dreams
Found this album in a campus bookstore cutout bin. Such great tunes.
I always believed you would have made a more cooler realistic Billy the kid than Kris Kristof, but Alias was still the coolest.
Great version ! Beautiful harmonica and acoustic guitar arrangement !!

Oie
They don't like you to be so free!!! WOW!!
I watched this in my film class last year and I still listen to the soundtrack sometimes
This guy gets it.
Great that your teacher saw the power of this album and film.
Have you seen "Heavens Gate" if you like Pat Garrett and Billy the kid, you might enjoy this film. I know the Academy and lots of people dissed it, but it was a pretty close representation of what actually went on in the development of the western states. It's also 3 hrs long, but beautifully shot. I love both of these films.
Enjoy!
