One more for your list: "North and South" starring Richard Armitage and Daniella Denby Ashe. It's about a London gentlewoman who is forced by circumstances to move to Milton, an industrial town in northern England. She clashes with a mill owner (Armitage) about worker's rights and class issues. It's a love story, too. And you can stare at the gorgeous Mr. Armitage for four hours.

Versailles is spectacular. The costumes and setting are amazing. The story has everything- love, honor, betrayal, political and court intrigue and at the heart of the story- the incredibly layered Louis the 14th who is both kind and cruel. …and bonus- the leading men in this show are beautiful!

I have no idea why 'The Borgias' 2011 TV series was left off this list. The scenery & costumes in the series were spectacular and breathtaking. It stars Jeremy Irons in the lead role of Rodrigo Borgia/Pope Alexander VI & he portrays the historical figure brilliantly. It ran for 3 seasons before they completely blew the budget on the very costumes that made it such an incredible feast for they eyes but, it is still a must for any period drama fan. The cast was perfect for the character roles & the story lines were intriguing from the get-go.

Can I interest you in the Spanish TV series "Isabel" and its sequel, "Carlos, Rey Emperador"? "Isabel" is, of course, about the rise of Isabella the Catholic to power as well as her reign alongside her husband, Ferdinand of Aragon. "Carlos, Rey Emperador", meanwhile, is about their grandson Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor. There's also the movie La Corona Partida, which takes place in the years between Isabel and Carlos. They're not always the most accurate of shows but goddamn do they make good TV and they're three of my most favorite period dramas of all time. 🤩
Apart from those three, I also recommend Maximilian, a three episode German-Austrian miniseries about the romance and marriage of Maximilian of Austria and Mary of Burgundy (Charles V's grandparents). 😄

One more thats relatively new and I think would go between Pan Am and Daisy Jones and The Six is Eva Lasting. Showcases the lives on 5 friends that spend their high school years in an all boys public school in Colombia during 1976, their world changes when they meet Eva Samper, the first woman to enter their now mixed school. She introduces them to a different life, literature, feminism and the realities of her past. Highly recommended!

Bridgerton is period drama version of Gossip Girl.

I think Gossip Girl is better... because you learn her identity at the end of the show.

You missed Charite (pre-WWII) and it's sequel series (Charite at War - WWII, Charite Cold War, etc.). They're set at the Charite hospital in Berlin before, during, and after WWII as you see the rise of anti-semitism in Germany and the effects of the war on the staff at the hospital. It's really good and has a very narrow, but interesting focus.

I loved the white queen, and the Spanish princess. Although the latter is painfully inaccurate.

I agree... but I don't mind if a show is inaccurate, as long as it keeps me entertained.

@@PrincessPlotline I agree in general, but the Spanish princess misrepresented Catherine so much it hurt my historical soul. I was glad it didn't portray her as an old hag like most other shows, but her character was assassinated.

My Lady Jane should be added now and two of the main women of bonfire of destiny also star in the limited series Women at War during World War I which is also a great show. There’s also a show called Marie Antoinette on Disney+

And when it gets there... I'm not sure what kind of revenue it would provide.
But I'll keep it in mind, if things go well. Thanks for the offer!
