i cant help but think that there are double standards exhibited by the United States with its economic embargo on Cuba while they are more than willing to sell weapons and trade with Saudi Arabia,United Arab Emirates which are not beacons of democracy and human rights considering that China a communist country just like Cuba is now America's biggest trading partner. The sanctions against Cuba are not justified and ought to be done away with.

While Batista may not have been the ideal leader, Cuba’s economy was thriving under his rule. People had electricity, healthcare was better, and large corporations provided stable employment that allowed workers to support their families. Just look at Cuba now: Castro’s resentment of wealth and big corporations led to the ruin of the Cuban economy. Cuba was once a top producer of sugar, tobacco, and coffee, exporting them to other countries. What do they produce now? What’s the state of Cuba’s current economy? And please don’t claim it’s all due to the U.S. embargo-that only restricts trade with Cuba’s dictatorship! Educate yourself and see past the propaganda. May Castro burn in H33l for what he did to the Cubans.

This was a very stirring documentary. I find your thoughts profound. I lived in Havana, Cuba for 5 months as a very young child. My mother and two older brothers and me were returning from Caracas, Venezuela after living there for a year and 1/2. I had lots of extended family members who lived there. I remember being very happy there as my mother’s sister and her two children lived in Havana. My mom also had some very good friends that also resided there. They were very wealthy sugar people. The lost everything when Castro came into power. When they finally left and came to the states they lost everything except for the clothes on their back and $3000 dollars. I’m so happy that you have a loving relationship with your beautiful daughter. Thank you for sharing your heartfelt insights.

this is the most propagandized bs. the economy struggled to grow because of AMERICA. The Cuban Embargo and America’s rule against international trade through Cuba is what caused their economic hardship. Cuba has some of the best healthcare in the WORLD. And freedom of speech comes with a price and when you are oppressed by a GLOBAL power for a near century, i also would be questioning dissenters. Who knows if they are sleeper agents or intend to upend the Cuban self-determinative plans that Castro intended for!?

Ive never heard of her, but I appreciate her story & that she was speaking out to raise awareness of suffering in her homeland- much like learning abt children of famous German/SS leaders… their identity is complex bc they should not be blamed or treated as if they had control over whom their parents were… & they are not their parent(s); however, they grow up in such a meaningful & powerful shadow, that a part of their parent’s identity certainly is glued to them… simply bc of how the society/world arnd them views them and conceptualizes them & ppl’s individual idea of the parent. That would definitely be rough to navigate your whole life…
Plus, If the parent is still in power/influence while they’re coming of age, the person usually does have some form of privilege & access, or opportunity that is better than others. However, it’s easy to see that in this scenerio, similar to daughters of middle eastern princes/emirates, there is a lot of fear, control, threats… in ways that are different than regular citizens face. So I wouldn’t say anyone had it better or worse, but atleast others can go back to visit. Would be interesting to see an update now that he’s dead. It’s sad she can’t see her mother, and it’s sad that Cuba was treated so horribly- the theory of treatment toward them didn’t work out as intended… there should never have been Such poverty so close to a land of milk and honey. Plus, Cuba’s revolution had consequences far reaching in all of South America that only fed the dynamics of dictators & subversives and idea they could/could not exist due to the “threat” of them. Places like Argentina where 2 mil ppl disappeared, and America trained these countries how to torture to keep communism from taking over the continent… but of course the imagined subversive “threats” were students, artists, journalists, academics- Ppl w/ ideas and a voice. Dictators used the idea/threat of these ppl spreading communism to tamp down those trying to overthrow them. It was a disgusting recipe for madness that all the leaders were complicit in. USA, Castro, South America, Russia, etc… a huge selfish circle jerk. But the Cubans are still left picking at the crumbs that have fallen on the floor. It’s unacceptable & disgusting.
It’s ppl like her mother that should be pointed at- but everyone i. The country can’t be blamed that they were tricked and lied to while suffering under a colonial regime. They just wanted more, and it’s such a beautiful culture and resilient Ppl.
    ❤Viva los Cubanos❤️

I’m taken aback when she said she “never had the experience of ownership.” And also “I didn’t lose anything when I came here because I never owned anything. In a communist country you don’t own anything.” While I knew that definitionally, I never considered what that would feel like, having been born and raised in democratic America. It’s very sad..

As a cuban american that had to leave cuba in 1962,i along with my mother ,father & sister.i was 10 years old,my small town was a few blocks only.its name, guayos, las villas ,it was conquered by Che Guevara in 1959.people went outside to dancing ,screaming, hollering ,paredon ,paredon, paredon. Castros long hair fighters were seeing as kind of gods diciples . everyone loved fidel castro in those days .as a 10 year old kid ,i still noticed that my family was entering into something dark .i never liked large masses ,large crowds are usually following a who knows who ? Castro was bad for the cuban family,he was a passionate man, he thought of cuba as a world power.thats very cuba,we think we are the center of the universe.but we were only a poor island with very loud and opinionated people .we are know it all ,its in our blood ,our coffee or maybe our cigars.alina has to listened to her fathers haters ,her fathers ex followers ,ex admirers , combatants, ex screamers of paredon, paredon ,paredon.im not a communist,im a realist.we have extremist s here to give to the whole world.on both sides i mean! Miami has 4,500 called ,organisations ,they have a defense minister and a president ,but no army ,just paper soldiers with huge aspirations of ruling in cuba ,one day .cuba has 5,000 organisations in case you want to know? Alina is the daughter of an ex saint,an ex leader, lawyer ,a bright man, a patriot.and for the other side, the worst dictator in history.
Its a sad thing ,its 2024 and the cuban family is separated ,i lost mine ,already .hate prevails .

I don't feel bad for the children of evil people. They are their parents dna. I only feel bad for the women who are raped and forced to have children. The children could be killed but not in vain. Not in vain meaning you cannot justify the rape and murder of mother and prejudice isn't the underlying factor; simply based off an in-justice or not-just event. In this case if shes not a rape baby then i simply just don't feel bad for her in a way that makes me want to help them.
