- [TAS] N64 Super Smash Bros. "Break the Targets & Board the Platforms" by Isotarge & Mittenz in 08:05.92
This is a tool-assisted speedrun. For more information, see tasvideos.org/3493M
TAS originally published on 2017-08-12
Super Smash Bros. began a series of games that mixes characters from several Nintendo-made games into a unique fighting game. It relies not on wearing down the opponent's "life" but increasing damage until he or she can be literally knocked off the stage. Wildly popular, this game has inspired many lazy days of casual multiplayer gaming but also intense competitive tournaments that happen to this day.
In this run, Isotarge & Mittenz team up and tackle the two timed bonus games with all unlockable characters.
Due to regional differences between releases of this game, the authors ran through both the Japanese and North American games. Ultimately, the Japanese version was deemed faster and published, but the North American run is available too. See the submission thread for more details, and for higher resolution encodes. - เกม
That fucking boomerang.
Yeah.
if you dodge the boomerang it will ignore any collision
5:53 BRUH I WAS GONNA WRITE THIS EXACT SAME COMMENT 🤣
Im seeing one thirds of my childhood being completed in 8mins here
So what’s the other 2/3
#facts
@@dangerousgrace7478 probably story and multiplayer modes
This game has some of the best sound design for its generation. Everything makes a distinct, satisfying sound and it’s beautiful
I think this is the Japanese version of the game and I know the sound is slightly different from the other versions. When characters hit something, there’s more of a punching sound whereas the other versions changed that to something more cartoony
@@supersmashmaster43 You're right, I was looking for that comment. Why would they do that? So it sounds less "violent"?
Pikachu's was easily the most impressive, good work on the encode corey.
ToonLinkGaming Not really.
hate pikachu
Link's
Pikachu's platform, and Link's target practice
Nah, I loved Nes
Damn! That Link break the targets was insane lol
Fox’s was better lol
*BOARD THE DK*
*BREAK DONKEY KONG*
delcamex Now that weird glitch in Donkey Kong Country makes more sense...
Expand the dong.
Oh I'll boar him alright, but I think he'd break MY target instead of the other way around. :V
*DONKEY* *KONG*
“Oh hey that’s pretty cool”
*sees Fox platform strat*
o_o...
My man went in reverse just to flex.
3:07 SSSSSSSSSSS Tier
The calculated "show your moves" during those board te platforms was amazing
I love how Ness finished at 19:99
That's the year Smash 64 was released, don't ya know?
Damn, you made Jigglypuff's Board the Platforms look easy! My sister and I were stuck on that last platform FOREVER as kids
It's the hardest in my opinion
For me it's was Ness's stages. I could not figure how to get the PK Thunder work right.
I was so stoked when I figured out rising pounds lol.
Love ending on Kirby with 13.37 time. Nice touch.
Robert McCulloch donkey Kong had 20:17
I set Kirby's record of 12.90, which was my best score. He always played with my brother to see who would give him a good record and I think he beat him on that.
@@hamssel328cruz6cap, can you show a video lol

Announcer: Welcome To South Park.
Underated comment.
lol
😂😂😂
Or it could be this (dirty mind of mine notices shit like this)
“Welcome to samus porn”

Disappointed that there wasn't a taunt after every ledge cancel from Falcon :(
FAI at least they did it twice.
lmaooo that pikachu was like a dbz character
ive actually done it in 8.33 seconds
TheArsenalMan125 that's impossible.
TheArsenalMan125 no you didn’t
@@TheArsenalMan125 ur cool
Smash 64 pikachu for you, also known as rat.
I've been doing fox's btp's backwards this whole time...
Who else finds it weird that Jigglypuff gets applause after getting smacked by the bumpers?
You hear oohhh, then clapclapclap.
8:08 you gotta love that 0'13''37 score
This is INSANE, and it brings some old memories back :') good work !!
i want more popcorn 1:14
Haha
GO!
Hey. You did great. Wonderful job!
Blue Yoshi TAS is a bot. The Bot do anything
@@salmon270 bro it has been 4 years i couldn't even speak english properly
1:11 DK's time is 20"17 and we're watching this in 2017..
Sike
Rly
Say sike right now
Nah I not
I'm from the future. My news is not good
Back when Smash told you how to use characters since everyone had their on unique Target Level
It's all about quantity over quality these days. Everyone's whining about how they want their favorite anime swordsman in Ultimate, and I'm over here whining about how I'd rather have 30-ish characters If it means we can have cool stuff like unique Break the Targets for every character.
@@RandomPerson964 Next game should have the 40 best characters and just work around them. Bonus stages, actual story cutscenes this time, etc. Would cut the bloat from the current roster
@@RandomPerson964
And now it’s manifested into JRPGs Vs Platformers, never thought I’d see the day. Smash Speculation really needs to end soon. Also I always preferred Quality over Quantity, the only thing carrying Ultimate is the Roster and that’s it, that statement alone will trigger Ultimate Fanboys.
Man, I want Break the Targets and that Board the platforms thing to be back in Ultimate.
I loved how the Smash 3DS had Smash Run with a lot of minigames and a giant map to gain experience and stat boosts for the final event. It had a bit of everything like Target Smash, beat a bunch of enemies, survival tests, hidden secrets and things like that; and how the last tests were Race to the Finish (and a similar vertical test), beat as many enemies as you can or just a regular Smash with all the stat boosts you had. I would love to see that again, but alongside Boss Battles returning (stages, Classic Mode and Brawl Adventure Mode alike) and some Target Tests like Brawl (5 levels) to have more to do than just regular battles.
8:08 kirby knows all
Seeing what Link's Boomerang does in Break the Targets is something to behold.
BREAK YOSHI
He still won't use his litter.
That's what happens when you commits tax fraud
Them punch sounds in JP Smash 64 tho
Beto Hernandez what punch sounds what do u mean?
king ding The sound effect when the player is breaking the targets. Sounds different in the JPN version.
Awesome platforms and targets my favorite throwbacks
Link's Break The Targets run was very impressive, flamboyant use of thrown weapons.
Hands down this is the best super smash bros of all time. Undisputed masterpiece of all time.
*Last time on Dragon Ball Z!*
*3:08*
Smash Bros Melee next? ☺
Board the Platforms: I enjoyed Pikachu clipping through the floor and Captain Falcon's taunts the most. Additionally, I liked how you pulled off beating Ness' stage considering his odd jumps due to him knowing PK/PSI moves.
Targets: How did you both pull off Link's Boomerang like that and find out about it?! That must have taken quite a while to setup.
BOARD THE DONKEY KONG!
BOARD THE NESS!
BREAK THE DONKEY KONG!
BREAK THE LINK!
BREAK THE SAMUS!
BREAK THE PIKACHU!
BREAK THE LUIGI!
I'm sure it's just me who's hearing this.
How fitting that the final run was 13:37. By the way, it's been a couple of years since I've seen this, but this is one of my favourite TAS runs of all time.
wait till we publish the updated version ! so far 4 seconds were shaved !

A true maniac defeating the rough challenge that I spend hours to overcome in few seconds, back to my childhood such amazing job!
Didn't even know you could edge cancel in 64. Makes movement look a little more like Melee, that's sick.
The way the announcer in this game says Captain Falcon and Ness will always be more iconic to me than anything the modern announcer can pull off, not saying he's bad, I love the modern announcer.
*HOLY SHIT THAT BOOMERANG*
0:56
They predicted donkey kong would be a meme.
Kirby's time was "leet" and now I feel I'm back to 2007
Wow i dont remember any of the board the platform levels, they seem really interestingly designed too
The last message "サウンドテストが使えるようになりました。 データからおはいり下さい。"
is translated to "Sound test is now available. Please start from the data."
Tool Assistant Speed runs will never fail to amaze me
Nice job man. Also this is my popular commenting spot for now on.
Fox breaking the targets was unnaturally satisfying!
This helps me alot ty
Epic
Pikachu looks so stiff
I wish I could play this well
Garmo I dont know if you know or not but this is a tool assisted speedrun, everything is frame perfect if you havent noticed
Bravo! Magnifico!
4:34 "0 : 19 : 99" ¡wow!
This TAS guy really is insane
Gotta love donkey kong charging his punch mid air
Very cool
A new record!
Even here link has to damage himself with his bombs
Wow you are a Master.
1:23 I like how you Down-B'd diagonally with Kirby.
A NEW RECORD!!
Can someone tell me the meaning of the final message? I want to know what says.
*S H O W M E Y A M O V E S*
The 13.37 on kirby was a nice touch
now this actually might be useful for non tas running
Lol Pikachu is so fast he went through the level in the board the platform stage
Damn dude, great work. is it possible to get a video of link's btt with the camera zoomed out so we can see the boomberang travel path?
Dk's record was exactly 2017
The nonsensical stages and platforms of these special stages hits me with the biggest of nostalgia waves @_@
199XX is now
Do one for Smash Remix
Is there any reason for the character order?
3:05 *Pikachu* Platforms - 10 segs
6:31 *Pikachu* Target - 8.5 segs
This TAS guy is cracked
What do you think link is saying in his up special?
Pokepurplepower Entertainment TSERRRRAT
The Demon Knight
Really, to me it always seemed he was saying SMAAAAACK!!
Ssssyyyrrrrruuuuup!!
SHHHHHHHHHEEEEETTTTTT
SHEEEAAH
do you know what the combined IGT was? Excellent run sir
N64 Analog stick massacre
The taunt cancel at 3:57 made me chuckle.
I miss these modes :O
I have a question, please someone explain me.
Did this player played ssb64 at that actual speed? Can I do that on PC?
Or TAS is just for making videos and he actually played at a normal speed and then recorded it
TAS is where you use an emulator and savestates to get frame-perfect inputs, so this was not done at actual speed
Whats the last screen say?
A Stagw is Unlocked
Sound test is unlocked
Can somebody explain to me how the maps are related to the characters?
The maps are designed to be completed by using the character's movements and attacks to complete.
4:35 Ness' time is 19"99 and Nintendo released SSB in 1999..
😱😱😱 Am speechless my childhood completed in 10 mins
The pikachu one was nuts
Isnt kirby break the target faster with the rock attack or something?
WonderCookie including the startup and endlag, fast fall is just a way better version, plus you can influence direction.
but then you wouldn't finish with a time of 13"37
that's for noobs lol, it's slower considering the hitlag and the startup it takes, it's more useful in btp with rockslide
I find it hilarious how it's faster to speedrun Fox's BTP stage going backwards.
it's because of the cycles, because if we do it normally (going with the normal route)fastfalling after p9 wouldn't make it to p10 because we're too low, even if we're high enough it won't make too much of a difference because of slow cycles
pikachu = jiren
kirjian vs ultra instinct ness
kirjian stfu
if i could have done any of these when I was a kid, i would have been a hero
That is impressive
Whats the end message translate to in english?
Kirby getting 13:37 is enough to make me giggle.
Fox DK and Falcon have the fastest targets
8:17 Corrupted save file?
it's the message of unlocking sound test but in japanese
What does it say at the end?
Why blue Fox? Why not normal Fox?
These jumps give me anxiety now looking back
Why was this re-uploaded?
There was a mistake in the captions at 0:10 regarding the branch name that has now been fixed! Sorry about that.
How could you!? Now I have to re-watch the entire video again!! Argh! Just kidding, no problem. ;p
