Gladys the Narrowboat looks stunning! My 4th visit to Aintree Boats, on 22nd April 2024

My 4th trip to Liverpool to see Gladys - and it was well worth the journey! She looks fantastic in her gorgeous red paint, which is very eye-catching, and Bonnie, a similar 40 foot Beetle, being built alongside her, also looks great in her shiny blue. The two boats are a treat to behold.
Progress has happened inside the boats too. The windows have been fitted now and more of the woodworking done too. So things are really taking shape.
I spoke with the Aintree Boats guys and Jamie assured me that she'll be ready before September - so everyone, please keep your fingers crossed that he's right! Bonnie's owner, Clive, is hoping to visit them in May, and he'll report back on how the boats are looking then. With luck they'll both have their names painted on by then too.

WOW!!! Gladys is looking phenomenal. The non slip matt black looks great and the red is outstanding. It looks like its been powder coated. The layout looks great too, I cant wait to see it when its fully furnished. September will be here before you know it Jeff and her maiden voyage will be so special for you. I'm getting excited and its not even my boat 😂 You must be so pleased and proud, and rightly so. See you in the next video. Take care Jeff 👍

Yesterday I used WM Railways once again, to go back to Kidderminster - once again all 4 trains were bang on time. Catch the video of that one this Saturday. 😊

Good morning Jeff, Gladys is looking wonderful, so nice to wander around inside now the windows are in so you can see how light it is & get the feel of how it'll be living in her.
My car is very close to Gladys's red too, it's a happy colour I think.
I'd be busy planning where everything will go in the cupboards & buying stuff ready to go the minute Gladys is ready for action!
You get a double whammy when you visit Gladys with the train ride as well, there's something about trains.

What a colour! What's it called? Also, how do they protect it during the move? A scratch would be heartbreaking.
Hiya John! Yeah, it really pops! I dont know what its called - a Pantone something or other - its one of the swatches they showed me when I first visited.
A specialist haulage company will lift her onto a truck and then deliver to place of my choosing. Usually they use large straps underneath the boat and then a crane lifts it up onto the low loader. I don't think they take any other special measures, but not sure to be honest. Yes, a scratch in the wrong place would be devastating - that said, I scratched my current car after just two weeks! With narrowboats, they are always going to get scratched and scraped once on the water - but you can be sure I will be very careful! 👍
The only thing is red fades too quick I hope this doesn't Jeff. I have noticed that they never give enough room to get into the weed-hatch looked a bit tight from what you showed, hope I'm wrong. I'm now in my 6th week after hip operation now walking around in my house without crutch, but still using when outside as a safety all going well just need the other one done now.
Hi Barry! Hmm... yes sometimes it does, you're right. Then again, my car, which is a similar colour, still gleams lovely after its been washed, and its a few years old now. Weed hatches are always a pain and you have to lift the engine hatch - but I think it is ok having seen it close up. My biggest fear is usually that my glasses might fall off and disappear into the murky waters under the propeller, because you have to get very close to the hatch to reach down to the propeller blades!

@@Gladysthenarrowboat on cars they normally put a laquer coat on to stop this.

Jeff , ( sorry not followed since Day 1)……when did you actually order the boat?
Hi Chris, no problem. I ordered in September 2022, and the build was expected to start in December 22 (which it did), and to be finished in summer of 2023 (which is obviously wasn't).
There have been delays - take a look back at my various updates if you have the time and energy! So it's looking like 12 months late. Others have had the same experience as me - but although disappointed with the delay, I just want it completed now - and it is looking very promising. My video on June 8th contains the latest update 🙂

Well...10 months is more realistic than the 6 months I was quoted Chris. But from the little I've learned, its not unusual for boat builds to go past the projected date with other builders too - although 12 months is obviously too long! It does feel to me as if Aintree Boats has stepped up on production speed recently - but I am still, very much, keeping my fingers firmly crossed that no more delays occur.
Something to remember too, is that Aintree's prices are very competitive with other builders - some of whom may be more reliable with their completion dates maybe, but that could come at the cost of quite a bit more money.
So, its a dilemma I'm afraid! Good luck, whatever you decide 🙂

Gladys is looking Fantastic and ample room. i love the red colour and the blue also nice, but i prefer RED.
