I never went to an arena to see him play but back when he came into the league my dad bought one of those humongous satellite dishes just so we could watch all of the Celtics and Red Sox games. Good times for sure. Miss you pop❣️🥲

I saw Bird since college !
    Every game I witnessed ,
    besides the 1979 NCAA
    finals , when they double
    and triple teamed him ,
was a real treat ! Every
game I saw , he did
    something spectacular !

yeah, true, that 79 game he was off, unlike him...but made up for it! LARRY LEGEND FOREVER!

He was always runnin up there in the rafters--he had led the league in minutes a season or two--he never seemed to get tired. He played every game a few seasons,, too, which wasn't a big deal back then, but he played through injuries like no other--I thought I had heard and seen it all with him and then I hear he had pneumonia in a game and went off in the 4th quarter to win--add that to other games featuring a broken hand, back, face, achilles tendonitis, bone spurs, herniated disks, etc. He was a tough dude--and he has the numbers no one else has in the game for a career-- 24-10-6, with 1.7 stls and almost a block/game to boot, at small forward? That is all-time great, class of '1', for a healthy guy--how he played in all those games through all that pain and not just won, but dominated, blazing a path of stats in unchartered waters with MVPs (3 in a row at a non-center position), shooting 50-40-90 for 1st time in league history, +32 wins rookie year-a record turnaround, 99-4 home stretch over 2 seasons (playoffs incl). Ridiculous stuff. That is why he is the Legend, I guess--statistical all-around greatness and winning, in the toughest era. His game was rooted in pain, discipline, unselfishness, all-around mastery, and winning every game.

I've watched Bird play and saw all his games. There is no better team player. In all team sports and I am a soccer player saying that. Bird is the absolute GOAT.

Datphillyboinah, great one, so yeah I been a Bird- and Magic- fan since 1979, before Larry Legend I was a Dr. J fan, the A.B.A. style was so cool...but yeah Bird and Magic and all the greats then were tremendous, great basketball, great rivalries...love him or hate him everyone respected Bird, the guy truly was a Legend in his own time...we saw it and see these highlights, but he was like this all the time...the morning after he and the C's won their first title of the Bird era, the Legend showed up at his running partners house, ML Carr I believe, at 6am and bangs on his door- hey whats up Larry? he says, Bird tells him, practice for next year starts now, and they went on a 10 mile run! ok keep it up, great stuff..

    9:00 pass to himself
I wonder if someone told him he wouldn't be able to pull that off in a game _SO_ .... he did. 😁

Wow, never saw this one before. I miss seeing Bird play. However, he always torched my team, the NY Knicks. I hated him because he was so different from anyone else on the court. Lots of years went past until I understood greatness. Other than Jordan, probably the greatest player I have ever seen..

Never watched him live. Grew up a big fan in my teens and was glued to the TV every game

Man you are cranking out some videos. I very much appreciate it. And you're very good at it. I like your comment in the last video describing Bird, WOW WOW. That pretty much covers it.
    Get along home Cindy Cindy

Definate shout it to Cindy!! I have never seen many of these clips! Excellent video and seeing his mom in the crowd in college and the picture of his dad. Talk about internal fortitude... Larry's dad committed suicide his senior year st ISU, then he breaks his finger playing softball right before his 1st season with the Celtics and his 1 year marriage breaks up. Then, he takes the league by storm, rookie of year, beating out Magic 64-2, improving the Celtics record by 42 wins. Bird is such an inspiring person!! Great review my friend, enjoy your vibe!! 🤗
Check out Larry Bird Prime. He makes excellent videos. "Larry Bird, ALPHA ROOKIE SEASON " it has little known Bird stories!! Think you'll love it!!
Did you see Bird running in the stands? He tried to psych out the visiting team doing his 5 miles during their practice lol. As if playing in the most difficult stadium in the league wasn't tough enough!! 😂Taking the T into the Garden was part of the experience!! Like the anticipation on a Rollercoaster creeping up to the top before those death drops!!😁🤩

Bird graduated HS spring of 1974. To Indiana University that fall for 24 days.
His father committed suicide Feb 1975.
He went to ISU for the fall of 1975.

Beach Bunny I feel like I know you! I never had a girl friend that knew anything about his basketball much less we would have hung out I was even born in Ireland 11 out of 6 months back dual citizenship I would have loved to gone to the games with you when I was younger even now on 68 for some reason it was a turn-on for the guys that I actually knew more than they did I have a feeling we're living parallel lives I'll see you in the comments peace out

Thanks I've never seen this video.
Say what you will, but the 80's basketball was exciting to watch more physically and mentally I'd say the early to mid 90's as well. Now not so much, yes they have good players, but really no excitement. Be Blessed 😊🇺🇲
