I get what you are saying, but she ( Going Merry ) was still talking and if a person is not breathing they have an artificial lung for that. I get that she can't sail, but thats like someone who can't walk. Not dead
I can't believe that the scene of Nami in Arlong Park where she's stabbing herself and then asks luffy to help her that it wasn't included in this list or in the previous one, for me it's the best scene where the anime has surpassed the manga, it's full of emotion and a great pace, and the voices just elevate the scene to new levels, I like the Brook's scene like any other, but really number one? I can't say that I'm not disappointed.
Merry's death was sad, but I couldn't actually see myself crying...until Mother Sea started playing. That song, THAT SONG man. It's easily my favorite piece of music in the One Piece OST for the single reason that every time I hear it or it's played in the anime (which unfortunately/fortunately doesn't play nearly as often anymore nowadays) I choke up. It's a gorgeous piece of music and it made me burst into tears upon queue during Merry's death
Both dub and sub version of I want to live with robin is so moving Hands down no questions asked “i want to live”is one of the most moving emotional and powerful moment in one piece
The Sniper King opening theme really caught me off guard the first time I saw it, I'm shocked that it isn't in the Manga. the scene where the Rumbar Pirates die one by one was so morbid for me.
My personal favorite moment from the anime is definitely Raizou is Safe, that song that plays is beautiful (I think it’s called The Bond between the Samurai and the Minks) and the voice actors of Duke and Nekomemushi, and especially Usopp deserve endless praise
As much as I love and adore the performance of Robin's VA during Eines Lobby, I have to give credit to Brook's VA, Shigeru Nagashima, as well! Not only is his rendition of Bink's Sake amazingly touching and wonderful to listen to, but the cry he lets out at the end of Thriller Bark as he breaks into tears after finding out that Laboon is still waiting for him felt so incredibly real and touching to me!
The thing I always forget about the last song of the Rumbar Pirates is that they're recording it so that the song can be played for Laboon some day. I think Brook is the character I want to know the most about, we know nothing about why he became a pirate (before the era of Roger) or his life before then, we know very little about the Rumbar Pirate's adventures on the Grand Line except they interacted with Sky Island in some way or someone who'd been there. I think the anime did part of zoro vs kuma better. Specifically when kuma sends the small portion of the pain bubble at zoro. The color distortion and the voice actors screams were great followed by him sounding genuinely hurt after
Number 1 and 2 were even better in the English dub imo the voice actors for Brook and Robin absolutely killed it! Which leads me to my "moments the English dub was better request, with #1 obviously being Franky's intro.
Recently happened so the "no duh" as to why it wasn't on the list but the Luffy and Zoro hug when they were reunited in Wano. Then again I'm just a sucker for hugs in anime in general because they just capture the force of them when manga cannot.
I haven't gotten to the Wano Arc yet (binge-watching through Crunchyroll first), but just finished the Dressrosa Arc, and during the initial "reunion" of Luffy and Sabo I kept thinking, "this isn't... well, Luffy-ish." Then I got to the episode where Sabo tells of it and... yep, there it is, pure Luffy as he nearly suffocates his long-lost brother in his unbridled joy.
You know, given that SuperMechaFrieza is going through Thriller Bark right now, Bink's Sake is definitely one of those moments I can't wait for her to react to, much like Merry's funeral to the other heartrending scenes leading up to the time-skip.
As of now (act 3 of Wano) I would very much like to include the following: Luffy vs the Pacifista - Manga can't always fully portray the speed of character feats which imo is often more impressive than displaying strength, and the anime showing Luffy effortlessly dodging an enemy he was previously dwarfed by and dunked on makes it all the more satisfying. God Usopp - Having the vocal performance really accentuate the parts all the gladiators hear made this moment absolutely hilarious to me Bringing Oden and Roger to Life in General - The quirks of Oden and Roger through the power of the anime were something I more fully enjoyed than the manga. Which brings me to my final choice and needs absolutely zero explanation: "He laughed"
Just watched today episode (868). Luffy vs Katakuri Conqueror's Haki should make it to next list, it looked so threatening and overwhelming. Also I am kind of glad that Charlotte Smoothie got at least a little more spotlight than in manga. Most likely her manga scene was limited to a single page due to chapter limitations.
Do you think you would ever do something similar to this but as a comparison between the english dub (funimation obviously) and the japanese version? Like what moments the dub might of done better? Its just something i thought of when i see this kind of video. This is all assuming you have seen much of the funimation dub in the first place..
I can handle the dub well enough, except... Luffy... His voice is so grating on me. He sounds exactly like Ash Ketchum... I just can’t. The others are fine, but Luffy... /sigh
I love the video & the anime has touch my heart. I hope that when the manga reaches a Good Ending to One Piece then the anime will catch up to the point in both sub & dub.
No Gear fourth (Bounce-man) introduction? I’m a manga only fan and had a friend bring that scene to my attention. Genuinely blown away by how well they handled that transformation.
I think a minor one is Charlotte Smoothie chasing after the Thousand Sunny during the Whole Cake Island arc. In the manga, it wasn't made entirely clear what exactly Smoothie was doing, she launches what looks like a Mihawk-style flying slash and then cuts to her on the ship where she is inexplicably several times larger than she already was. Someone actually asked Oda in an SBS what that was all about, so Oda said that she used her Shibo Shibo no Mi abilities to basically suck the moisture from other people into herself which is what made her so big and then shoot it out as an attack, which is what that slash attack was. The anime shows her doing exactly that, stabbing her sword into dudes and sucking the fluids out of them and growing larger. Also, the way the slashes are drawn and animated in the anime make them look distinct from typical flying slashes to differentiate them.
The 2 second clip of Rayleigh coming out of nowhere and deflecting kizaru’s kick to zoro is definitely honorable mention for me. Gave me goosebumps. Must’ve rewound and rewatched 50 times. Such a short short bit of great animation sandwiched by overly long reaction stills probably helped, but still.
I'd say the flashbacks for ever Straw Hat are also superior in the anime, at least their original iterations (as we know some have been revisited and reanimated). While the animation itself does vary in each respective flashback, the pacing and voice acting really sells each tragedy experienced by the crew when they were young. Luffy's whirlwind of being a Shanks' fanboy and causing his idol to lose his own arm. Zoro's previously hilarious training montages becoming an increasingly overboiling pot of his repressed grief. Even the simplest flashback, when Merry recounts the moment of Usopp losing his mother, is pretty damn touching with the voicework as our favorite sniper commits to telling his #1 lie for years to come after becoming an orphan. Then of course you have Nami and Robin's flashbacks which are just spirit-crushingly sad seeing the horrible atrocities both girls had to witness.
2:20: "It could be even considered filler". YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! I know I will never get a moment like this again which makes me love it more. Good video!
The anime used a leitmotif of We Are for Merry's funeral. I legit cried again when I checked out the scene after reading the manga version. Number one for me.
The walk to Arlong Park is also better in the anime imo. The combination of the soundtrack and the building hype around the Straw Hats as the island's last hope is amazing
I go and listen to Bunks Sake at least once a month. You should've added when Zoro told Luffy to tighten up and get serious on Punk Hazard. They were able to expand on that moment in the abine
The recent episodes with luffy vs katakuri are seeming to have a big step up in animation. Hopefully it can keep at a quality like that but it's most likely only because they want to make the fight even cooler than it already is with nice animation
Movie 9 definitely upgraded Drum Island, imo. Not the inclusion of Franky, Robin and the Sunny (though that's not a detriment either), but specifically the animation, the music, Ikue Otani's acting and the fights. Luffy vs Mushroo isn't the greatest ever, but it's far better than the fights against Wapol and his men in the original story.
It was more a parody of Tokusatsu series, of which Toei is probably the biggest producer of. Also I feel special notice should be given to Sonny Strait having a lot of fun in the dub version. I was almost certain they would have left that in japanese given how they had given up on dubbing the OPs by Ennies Lobby but that was almost as delightful
I agree with your choices. Although i am an anime only viewer of one piece, i cant imagine the manga hitting them feels the way the anime did in these scenes. The sounds, art, and montage give it a nice touch.
You should give it a go. I'll say this, when the anime gets things right, it does transcend the manga because of everything you've said. However it more often than not fails to live up to the level of artwork, framing, pacing and impact of the manga especially in the post-timeskip era.
I cried so much watching the Going Merry and during the Rumbar Pirates Last Song together. My wife held me. And we cried together. I really love this anime :D

I wasn't warned that this episode would make me feel
I think one moment that also could've been included is Luffy remembering his crew after Ace's death.
Number 1 and 2 were even better in the English dub imo the voice actors for Brook and Robin absolutely killed it!
Which leads me to my "moments the English dub was better request, with #1 obviously being Franky's intro.
I love this channel.
This channel loves you.
BEST USER NAME EVER!
Me too
Recently happened so the "no duh" as to why it wasn't on the list but the Luffy and Zoro hug when they were reunited in Wano.
You know, given that SuperMechaFrieza is going through Thriller Bark right now, Bink's Sake is definitely one of those moments I can't wait for her to react to, much like Merry's funeral to the other heartrending scenes leading up to the time-skip.
the reason i love this channel so much is the fact he explains all most everything within short period of time!!!!!
That's the aim! ;D
As of now (act 3 of Wano) I would very much like to include the following:
Luffy vs the Pacifista - Manga can't always fully portray the speed of character feats which imo is often more impressive than displaying strength, and the anime showing Luffy effortlessly dodging an enemy he was previously dwarfed by and dunked on makes it all the more satisfying.
God Usopp - Having the vocal performance really accentuate the parts all the gladiators hear made this moment absolutely hilarious to me
Bringing Oden and Roger to Life in General - The quirks of Oden and Roger through the power of the anime were something I more fully enjoyed than the manga. Which brings me to my final choice and needs absolutely zero explanation:
"He laughed"
Brook's tragic backstory is still the most heartbreaking in my opinion. I can't watch/read it without bawling
T____T
Kyle Sanderson dub is🐐
Luffy is the only thing wrong with the English Dubb in my opinion.
I really like the FUNimation dub myself and would love to see a video like that
I can handle the dub well enough, except... Luffy... His voice is so grating on me. He sounds exactly like Ash Ketchum... I just can’t. The others are fine, but Luffy... /sigh
I love the video & the anime has touch my heart.
I hope that when the manga reaches a Good Ending to One Piece
then the anime will catch up to the point in both sub & dub.
Sidney Williams That would be a dream come true
Should've also given a mention to English Dubbed version of Bink's Sake since the song was awesome
If this video came out this week instead of last then Kata/Luffy Conquerer’s Haki clash woulda made it
No Gear fourth (Bounce-man) introduction?
Just the mention of Robin screaming she wants to live gives me gosebumps.
Damn the feels in the Water7-saga is many
I'd say the flashbacks for ever Straw Hat are also superior in the anime, at least their original iterations (as we know some have been revisited and reanimated).
I’m not sure what it’s like in the manga, but one of my favorite scenes in the anime is Ace saying 「ありがとう」like that voice crack is EVERYTHING
U forgot one major moment from lots of arcs in One Piece anime - THE WALKS!
How about the CLIMB tho!
you do a good job at making these videos! love it.
This guy deserves more subs then he has
The walk to Arlong Park is also better in the anime imo. The combination of the soundtrack and the building hype around the Straw Hats as the island's last hope is amazing
The Franky House walk was fire, too. It’s always dope to see “business” Chopper.
Also the fact your vids are all composed of 99% anime scene pictures. Thats also helpful haha. Lowkey would be lame with the manga pics
The Sogeking part is not a filler, you can consider it as "a story yet to be told", he lives in your heart for now.
The only reason I prefer anime is that I can understand the story or dialogues better (with the help of colors, animations, sounds).
You're the best one piece source without cringe. I dont know how you dont have more subs.
I go and listen to Bunks Sake at least once a month. You should've added when Zoro told Luffy to tighten up and get serious on Punk Hazard. They were able to expand on that moment in the abine
If you do a Part 3, please be sure to include the ascent to Skypeia.
YYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSS
I completely agree! Brooks story is the saddest to me, I got chills when you said it was #1.
I started crying just thinking of I want to live and the merry.
Keep doing more of these vids!! I thought you'd add the luffy Usopp fight.
Moments with someone singing.
Ex: Luffy singing in Skypeia, Binks Sake etc.
The Robin scene is the best. I get that cold shiver in my back and neck every time I see it. It's so dam powerful.
