- @AddictedAngler (his video can be found here • Late Fall Deep Crank F... ) turned me on to this awesome stretch of the Des Plaines river and Chicago Sanitary and Ship canal. He even made a surprise visit later on in the day! You'll notice I did not include my normal map of spots. Given this is a spot a friend gave me I want to respect that and retain the spots a bit.
I found a real good bite with a custom painted DT16 in a rock bass pattern. I caught more walleye this trip than I have in the last 5-7 years combined. Really fun stretch.
Great Video The old infrastructure is interesting.
It sure is!
great job man nice fish caught
Appreciate it!
Keep up the good videos I like them because these are all local spots to me
Will do! Winter is setting in fast this year though. Not sure how many trips I’ll be able to get in before the ice
Going to hit the des planies soon also great video brother
Thanks and good luck!
well you did the interesting phone call, and i assume u gonna have a part two. I am glad you enjoy the river big guy
Certainly had to include bits of the call 😂.
I’ll certainly be back at some point for another round. Maybe from the kayak this time. Definitely want to try more of the Des Plaines river past the bridge
Try the Kankakee upstream of Wilmington dam. There's a lot of nice smallmouth and walleyes in that pool.
That’s a bucket list stretch for me. I think it’s a 9.9 Hp restriction and really shallow?
What boat launch did you use
I’m a local I had no clue there was somewhere to put a boat in here did you use a public access point? Also excellent video I love the variety of species!
Thanks! There are two public access points on that pool that I know of and others that you can lock into this pool from. I normally share that info but this isn’t my spot to share
@@btmbass8558 That’s all the info I needed I quite literally live down the street from the lock. We used to be able to drive up what would’ve been the old bridge connecting Lockport/joliet. Since then it’s become sanitation and it’s private. Just happy to know I can put my boat in and give some sauger a shot! Thank you for your help my friend.
With 100% catch and release anyway, please consider de-barbing your hooks. I don't think all that blood was a good sign. Other than that, this was a really interesting video of an area that is basically untouched by most area fishermen.
I certain understand the sentiment with debarbed hooks. My bass stuff always keeps the barbs for when I'm tournament fishing. It'd would be way to expensive to keep barbed stuff for tournaments and debarbed for casual fishing. I do remove the barbs on almost all of my fly fishing stuff though for panfish and trout. Mostly for how fragile Trout are.
Yes interesting phone call you had hope your truck is okay and those were saugers not walleye
The Carpentersville stretch water's going down quite a bit now
Thanks for the concern, but thankfully the call was a joke and nothing happened to my truck. I definitely see the sauger/walleye difference now.
There is no Des Plains river in Peoria, did you mean the Illinois river.
I meant Joliet. I’m one of those people that lose track of all the towns south of I-88
Even when they open the gates it won’t kill ya just fyi
I went up there later in the day when they were running and agree it’s not so bad.
