  • Callaloo is a meal packed with nutrition and we can have it either by itself as a soup or as a side dish with provisions, rice, quinoa etc.
    My suggestion - make a huge batch and freeze in small packets so it's easy to defrost for times when you don't feel like cooking!
    Here's what I used: (a rough average)
    2 bundles dasheen bush bhagi
    1 large red onion
    5 pimento peppers
    1 1/5 tablespoons avocado oil
    1 teaspoon black pepper
    1 tablespoon salt
    1 scotch bonnet pepper
    2 cups water
    1 cup coconut milk
    4 sprigs thyme
    10 cloves garlic
    2 1/2 cups pumpkin (cubed)
    1 large carrot (diced)
    10 small okra
    2 tablespoons all purpose maggie seasoning

    This looks so delicious 😋. In my country we (asian descendants) make thick/thin soup using this veggie with 🥥 milk and meat or smoked fish. We sometimes add cassava or taro/yam to it and of course 🌶️🌶️🌶️

    • @islandyogi
      @islandyogi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow!! How cool! What do you all call it and which country is this? People usually add meats like crab or pigtails to their callaloo in Trinidad, but I prefer no meat in mine 😆 also, I love cassava! I’m gonna try that next time

      @@islandyogi my home country is Suriname. Don't know how it's generally called there, but the Indonesian/Javanese call it "Loemboeh".

    Wey they meat?

    • @islandyogi
      @islandyogi  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We don’t like meat in callaloo 🥹 but I know rel people like pig tail and other stuff. Never grew up eating it with meat.
