Such an idyllic life. The lace curtains blowing in the breeze at the end... perfection. Life always has two sides. Taking a few minutes to think about something else is good. Thank you!
Well, the bits I show are idyllic-ish! Ha ha, I'm hiding the rubbish stuff of course, like we all tend to do. 😉 But it's nice to capture those beautiful moments and remind myself that whatever happens, they are still there. ☺️❤️
Thank you for letting me come and visit your channel. It helps me to see the simple things in life which can bring so much joy. The spring flowers, your pets and family. Climbing a tree!!
Oh thank you! Yes I'm really loving how much joy there is in just getting out for a walk each day and how she hasn't really got too fed up yet because she keeps herself amused with taking different paths and climbing the trees etc. It's nice!
Sandra what about putting the brown stripe again at the other end sort of the same distance from the edge to balance out that one brown stripe at the start. Just an idea. I kinda like hearing Bertram barking so if I can't see him I can hear him!
I just love the pic of your Viburnum in the opening shot. I live in the state of Connecticut, New England, USA to be exact and I had one huge bush/tree at my last house. It was close to rear of house and if the weather cooperated, it's fragrance would fill the entire house if I opened a single window! I had the added bonus of an old lilac that would bloom at the same time. The bouquets were phenomenal but so short in duration. By the next day the blossoms would start to wither. I just love your podcast and I think you have marvelous taste.
Kitten Korleone oh that’s sounds so lovely because yes it smells amazing doesn’t it? I love getting a waft when I walk to and from my little craft house! I don’t have a lilac but maybe I should get one 👌
Thank you Sandra, it was so nice to catch up with you 😊 I am the same way when it comes to projects: I want it to be easy going but look perfect also 😏 The Granny stripe blanket is beautiful! I love the colors you chose ❤️ Bertie barking in the background is so fun 😊 Stay safe and I loved the vlog at the end! Beautiful horses, scenery, and pets ❤️
Lovely to catch up while knitting... Home schooling after Easter has been easier here too - less work set after the initial throw everything at them, and a more receptive Patch. He even finished everything yesterday so has a work free day today. Your jumper is looking oh so stylish! And the prettiest embroidery - I love the foxgloves. I also like the brown in your granny stripe blanket, I think it will look less obvious once the blanket is finished but the deeper colour will add something. In fact, so many lovely makes as usual! The idea of those thicker fabric ties for the project basket has inspired me... Take care
Yes I think a lot of schools kind of panicked in that first lock own week, I guess they had so little time to prepare! It's definitely nice to have something a little more structured and a free day is fab. We managed to get a whole day off last week too. I think they can (sometimes) get through things quicker at home. Yes, I'm a bit obsessed with the 'ties on bags' thing at the moment, I think there will be more here too. ☺️❤️
Ohhh your granny stripe is delightful! I really like the brown, I'd add it every so often throughout, just less often than the other colors. It's beautiful, you have such a good eye for putting colors together.
I adore the sweater you made and love it with that gorgeous blousy top! I can't decide about the brown, but you've gotten such good advice from everyone here! I love watching your dog run around, those little short legs make me so happy! Thanks for sharing a little of your world with us! I hope you all stay safe!
I love your embroidery, I’ve been crocheting lately , but I always loved doing embroidery....I’m also doing a granny blanket with a different color every row. I did that too but I actually love doing ir, very relaxing 😌 I think yours is lovely, I just hope mine isn’t garish!
Hi Sandra, your sweater looks terrific, I love her patterns. They always seem comfortable. I am working on the simple summer sweater in cotton. Hope you are all healthy and staying safe. Your adventures in embroidery remind me I miss doing my cross stitch, time to pick it up again. I like the brown, serves as a break.
Oh thank you so much! Yes I'm really loving her patterns too and they nice to make but also feel really wearable. I can see this one getting a lot of use I think. ❤️
I think the brown row in the blanket looks good! I love the fabric bag too. I’m going to have to hunt down a similar pattern as I need a big project bag. Hope you and your family are doing well!😊
Ooh that crochet cast on you used for your blanket looks interesting! So neat as well! Love your new bag and jumper! I can’t get those amazing meringues out of my head now! Yum!x
Lichen! And gorse! Yay! If it were me I would leave the brown (it looks very pretty!) but I think if I were *you* I would rip back and take it out as I know it will bother you every time you look at it! :) ❤️😊 Your bucket bag is brilliant! I may have to try and copy and do something similar (but more dodgy) for some fun sewing! A lovely catch up, thank you xx
Ha ha, this comment about the brown actually made me laugh out loud! 👌 Thanks on the bucket bag, I was just catching up on your vlogs this morning and I see a Dodgy bag along is coming... yay! Excuse for me to make another too! ❤️
I’m sure youlll be adding other brown or deep green stripes as you go along, and you’ll forget all about that first brown stripe, just beginning shock is all. It’ll be fine. Just be sure to use it again once and a bit.
The Brown is good!!! It will not be visible when the whole blanket is done. That said;) i Just frogged 6 or 7 rows because my begining chain was too tight.for an "ugly scrappy blanket" that will be living in the car. So i get your dilemma;)
I love ALL the colors in your granny stripe blanket!! I'd use the dark brown! Love your Understated pullover too! I'm wanting to start a Granny stripe blanket someday.
Beautiful new blanket you are working on! I think the brown looks just beautiful but if it's your blanket and if it bothers you then rip back before you go farther. Love your bucket bag!
I just bought that understated pattern a week or so ago. It’s good to see it in video and your experience on the sizing. I think the neckline will be too low for me, so I may do the smallest size and just make the sleeves and body longer.
Do you have more of that brown yarn? It does make a lovely contrast colour that draws out the others; perhaps, use it 'randomly' throughout the rest of the blanket - half-row here and there, third or quarter-row, even less interspersed the blanket may bring a lovely rustic sort of feel to it?
Yes, I do have a small amount of that one, so I could definitely do a few more rows here and there... I leaning towards that option as I'm still feeling far too lazy to take out that first row so far! ;)
I would leave the brown in and use it every 20 rows or so. It gives the blanket a subtle pop and somewhere for the eye to rest. I think it looks beautiful 💖💖 (and I’m not a “brown person” - green and pink for me)
Sandra so lovely to spend my mirning with you, I think the colours in your granny stripe are gorgeous. The Understated jumper is now on my to do list. Xx Deb
If I were you I would embrace the brown stripe and actually use it as a design feature, maybe putting in some more throughout the project so that it looks deliberate. I think that would look really nice :) I really like the brown stripe actually :P
I like the brown stripe in your blanket. If you possibly add a few more brown stripes randomly through the blanket, it won't be just the one brown stripe. I enjoy your podcasts and all the extras! Sweet puppy! ♡
Finally someone said what I think about getting gauge! The swatch usually doesn't have anything to do with the gauge of the actual item. Which is so frustrating. And the gauge for knitting something flat changes when you have to do something in the round on the same item such as sleeves. It's all such a bother. So I mostly stick to things where gauge doesn't matter. :)
Oh it’s so frustrating isn’t it? I probably am a little guilty on not doing a big enough swatch to be fair but honestly, I’m usually too impatient to start! 😉❤️
The wood we have in there is fairly pale, but there is a lovely deeper brown in the wallpaper... my original thought was that it would go with that. In theory at least! :)
Place some part rows of the brown and make it like lines in the ocean or like branches of wood laying on the ground . Some lines of brown can be full rows and others partial. Think paintings by JMW Turner.
The embroidery is looking lovely. I've yet to start my cross stitch skep, soon for sure. The only sewing I've done lately has been making face masks (not a for fun project for sure). The tie backs sound good, I know what you mean. Mine at the moment are crochet pineapple pattern in white done in a narrow strip like that without the knot. Fun times in the trees. Happy hooking!
Thanks so much! Yes, I'm enjoying the embroidery and I've seen some cross stitch samplers that I like that I'm kind of hankering after now too! Sometimes mixing the crafts up a little just hits the spot!
Lovely to see you again, Sandra. Your podcast was just what I needed today 😊 I’m glad the homeschooling is going well for you this week. We were on spring break when we learned we wouldn’t be going back to school , so we’ve now been at the homeschooling for the...fourth week? I think? At any rate, our school has done a marvellous job of communicating both with us parents and the children. They’re also keeping the workload manageable...and with three school aged kiddos, I really appreciate that! I’m really hoping you’re out of lockdown soon ❤️ Take care!
Oh I'm so glad lovely! Yes I'm relieved that the home schooling is feeling much more manageable now, thank goodness. Sounds like you are doing a fab job and with 3 children to think about that's not easy. Hats off to you! ❤️
That brown makes the other colors more lively. Without the brown, the blanket might look a little drab. Well, I saw the next podcast and saw that you left it in - looks great!
I would keep that brown stripe in. Every blanket needs a bit of a punch. To me anyway! Maybe repeat it here and there and it’ll be less annoying when you’re further on. You might actually like it better! 😆
If you made the next stripe that brown shade it would make it look better, it's catching your eye so intensely because there's only one stripe within what you have done so far. As you continue the blanket it'll look amazing in the end :)
I would take the brown out. When you were showing all the yarn you are using you had something to say about each of them, except the brown...you just took it out of the bag and stuffed it right back in again. Looks to me as if you are not happy with that colour. Love the boxy. I bought the "lighter" version of the pattern and I hope it will look as good on me as it does on you. Would make me a happy lady!
Anna Geernaert ooh that’s interesting about the brown, I didn’t notice that... so maybe my subconscious is also rejecting it!? 🤔. I’m so tempted to do a lighter version too now. 😂. Good luck with yours, hope it turns out fab! ❤️
Hi Sandra I suspect it's not the colour brown that bugs its the tonal differences, it's much darker than the surrounding rows. I'd keep it at the beg & end of the blanket and run one of your lovely decorative embellished crochet as a raised run in a med tone yarn if it still irritates. Jen BA Fine Art x
I think the brown looks good 😁 it's always a hard decision when thats all you see and wondering if it's always something that will bother you. Maybe leave it in as a lockdown stripe to remember when you were crocheting it in years to come 😉
I also started a granny stripe blanket! think the blanket looks great but I learned recently how to do crochet surgery! TH-cam it . Might be a solution to getting the brown stripe out.
I was wondering about that! I can't be bothered to frog it because of all the ends, but then I was thinking if I really hate it after a while, maybe I could take it out and replace with another colour... Because that's soooo much easier! 😂😂
I have started looking for sweater patterns with short row shaping in the back because I don’t like the garment pulling up in the back. I think as we get older we tend to start getting rounding of our upper back and shoulders so short rows even things out for us. I wish more designers took that into consideration. I’m sure it depends on who they are designing for. Designing has to be hard work.🥵
Yes, I think I'm starting to think about things like that a little more with the patterns I look for too. It's taken me a while to learn that sort of thing though, there's quite a lot to think about even when you are just making from a pattern isn't there?
I don't have a pattern for it at the moment I'm afraid, sorry! I did my usual thing of making my life harder than it needs to be but doing my own thing! I was wondering about writing up the pattern for it though, so if there is interest in it I may go ahead and do that!
I think the brown would be ok if you added more rows of it as you go up the blanket. Because there is only one strip, it does stand out. You have beautiful walks round your way. I love all the broom.
I like the brown because I think it sets off the other colors. But if you really don’t like it take it out, or if you’re super lazy like me-just put matching brown stripes on the opposite end of the blanket and leave the center “brown yarn free”. Just thoughts. Lovely walk outside, thanks for sharing.
I think it's partly because I tend to wrap the end of the yarn round the middles and that changes the shape a little. I do tend to get a slightly bigger cake on my new winder though... I've got one of the Knit Pro Swift Mega winders and I think they can take a larger hank of yarn than some. So that might be it too!
It looks better with the brown row. You could eliminate that color from the rest of the blanket and just add it back in in the same position at the other end.
Yeah that's what I was thinking... I don't have loads of the brown, but a few rows should be ok I think. Assuming I leave it in of course! 😂 I don't have a pattern for the bucket bag yet, but I was wondering about getting it written up actually, so if there is interest, I may do that!
In respect of your granny stripe blanket, your colour choices are always so beautifully tasteful - trust your judgement as it is always flawless. I'm not keen on the brown stripe as it seems to interrupt the flow. That's my two penny worth anyway :D
Lovely podcast. Love you Understated Jumper, it suits you and is lovely. If that brown is going to annoy you continuously you need to frog back and remove it, I don't think it looks too bad, maybe you will need to use it again and various points.
i like the brown it breaks it up a bit. plus you said you have that color in your living room. it's just standing out because you have lighter shades on either side of it.
I really like the brown bit, and I’m not one to gravitate toward that color at all. It reminds me of a forest on a sunny day or the beach on the northern Atlantic shores of the US.
Thanks for another enjoyable podcast - congratulations on the finished pullover, very nice!! If the row of brown is bothering you now it probably will in future too so...maybe undo and pull it out then use it for tassels? It looks to be a beautiful blanket when completed. BTW - I’m sure you wouldn’t tease us with saying you figured out how to make a foundation tr(dc) GRANNY row and not plan to show or tell us how to do it...right? Please 🙏🏾 if you have time. Thanks - I always enjoy your podcasts!
Ha ha, that' would be naughty of me wouldn't it? It probably sounds silly, but I do tend to convince myself that no-one will be interested in it. ☺️But absolutely happy to share if people are! ❤️
It doesn't sound as if you convinced about the brown. If you're like me & you leave it in, your eyes will go t it every time & you'll wish you'd taken it out despite the aggravation. You want to love the finished blanket after all 😁💕
Your jumper looks fabulous and you don't have wide hips! Re blanket - you are always going to look at it and wish you had taken the brown out. Re woven in ends... if you unravel into small balls won't the ends all just unravel naturally although I may weave mine's in differently than you.
Such an idyllic life. The lace curtains blowing in the breeze at the end... perfection. Life always has two sides. Taking a few minutes to think about something else is good. Thank you!

"trial of doing the curtains" Oh, Sandra, you are so funny! so sweet! I'm enjoying all your projects, such lovely inspiration!

I like the brown very much and when the whole thing is done it won't be noticeable at all! You're over-thinking it. It's totally lovely!
Yeahhhh, I don’t think that browns bad at all!!! It allows the lighter shades to do their thing!! 💕💕💕
SeeShellSalvage thanks! I’m probably over thinking... again! 🤦♀️😂
I like the idea to add the stripe again on the other end. Thanks for the podcast! 🙋🏻♀️👍🏻🌹

They are such irresistible projects aren't they!
love the granny square blanket colour choices. my fav too with duck egg . leave the brown it makes the other colours look pop. love your bag.
Jayshree Shah thank you!! ❤️
I like the Brown in the blanket. 😊
So glad to catch you
Beautiful new blanket you are working on!
Yes please to a pattern for your bucket bag 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼💖
Do you have more of that brown yarn? It does make a lovely contrast colour that draws out the others; perhaps, use it 'randomly' throughout the rest of the blanket - half-row here and there, third or quarter-row, even less interspersed the blanket may bring a lovely rustic sort of feel to it?
Yes, I do have a small amount of that one, so I could definitely do a few more rows here and there... I leaning towards that option as I'm still feeling far too lazy to take out that first row so far! ;)
@@CherryHeart you can also leave it as a stand alone reminder of COVID-19, how it interrupted life in 2020
I would leave the brown in and use it every 20 rows or so.
Xx Deb
Thank you so much! It's a lovely pattern, I hope you enjoy it!
Ohmygoodness ..... spellcheck "morning" lol
I really love that brown stripe in your blanket and I think you should do about 4 in the whole blanket!

I love the brown in your granny stripe ... I would not change a thing!
Love your sweater!!!!! It looks lovely on you
Thank you!!
I love the brown in the blanket - it helps ground it. Presumably you have some wood in your living room which would be echoed by the brown? Jinny

I like the brown stripe, it looks like rocks among watery colors in a streambed
Ooh I love that thought, thank you!
I love your blanket Sandra. Personally I would add more of the brown throughout the blanket to balance it out. Its lovely.

Oh thank you, I always have to over think!! ☺️😉
I've been looking for your pattern on how to make the scarf with the little hearts hanging on the scarf. I cant find it. Thank you
Don't worry about Bertie's barking, I love hearing his little voice❤

Is there a pattern for the bucket bag you sewed here? It looks lovely. I really like your blanket.
My family says unanimously that they want to come and live with you! Sending love 🌸 🐰

There is nothing wrong with the brown. It is very pretty and when you get the whole thing done you will never notice it with all the other colors!
I think the brown would be ok if you added more rows of it as you go up the blanket. Because there is only one strip, it does stand out. You have beautiful walks round your way. I love all the broom.
I like the brown stripe. Leave it in and don't add another stripe until the end, just to make it even. That's what I'd do.
Ooh I quite like that thought actually, just one stripe at either end... I've left it in so far, but I still keep pondering it! 😂😂
How are you getting such tall caked yarns? Is the bobbin on your ball winder taller than average?
I think it's partly because I tend to wrap the end of the yarn round the middles and that changes the shape a little. I do tend to get a slightly bigger cake on my new winder though... I've got one of the Knit Pro Swift Mega winders and I think they can take a larger hank of yarn than some. So that might be it too!
Put one brown stripe at the finishing end make it look deliberate
It looks better with the brown row. You could eliminate that color from the rest of the blanket and just add it back in in the same position at the other end.
I also dont think the brown is off. It works well with the other colours 😊
add a few more brown stripes as you go, and it will all balance out. Do you have a pattern for the bucket bag? Its so cute.
Yeah I was thinking if it stays I'll need to use it again too. I think it's staying... maybe! 😂
i like the brown it breaks it up a bit. plus you said you have that color in your living room. it's just standing out because you have lighter shades on either side of it.
The Joji sweater looks great on you 😍
Nice one
I would continue with using the brown color, add it in other rows.
I would like to have one
I really like the brown bit, and I’m not one to gravitate toward that color at all. It reminds me of a forest on a sunny day or the beach on the northern Atlantic shores of the US.
Ooh, I love the imagery of that. It does feel like a very calming colour palette which I do love about it. Just the ticket right now too!
It looks ok to me...it’s actually very nice....
You want to love the finished blanket after all 😁💕
Are the yarns your showing a dk weight? Or fingering?
SeeShellSalvage for the blanket? They are fingering weight yes. 👍
If it matters to you, take it out. You will always be drawn to it with displeasure.
I’d take it out, maybe save the brown for the border?
I like brown!
Please don't take the brown color out it looks beautiful ,enjoy the process,GBY
Ahh thank you! ❤️
Your jumper looks fabulous and you don't have wide hips! Re blanket - you are always going to look at it and wish you had taken the brown out. Re woven in ends... if you unravel into small balls won't the ends all just unravel naturally although I may weave mine's in differently than you.
Ahh thank you so much!! If you can't see my hippy hips, I love you forever! ;)

Eye dropper of weak bleach on each stitch?
Ooh, that's a clever thought. Not sure I am brave enough for that though?? 🤔
When in doubt rip it out lol lol
Ha ha! Good motto!
You r not used to dark colors mostly
It depends on the project I suppose, but definitely not so much lately. Maybe that's why I'm not sure on it!
It's too similar in tone without the brown.
