With 5 diamonds and 4 hearts, what will your first two bids be?

- We have a lovely opening hand with five diamonds and four hearts.
If we bid our diamonds first, how might we find out if we have a heart fit? A 1♦ opening bid followed by a 2♥ bid would be a reverse, implying we have a stronger hand than we do.
How can we still find out if we have a heart fit with partner?
Graeme Tuffnell guides us through this fun bridge hand. Watch the video and then see if you can make slam for yourself.

My opps led a club, the unbid suit. I tried the ruffing finesse in hearts. Lefty covered and I went down.
Njoyed this tutorial ... well done 😊
Two of u are great really enjoying . Hopefully iron out some of my REPEATED blind panic spots.
Well done. Brilliant.
This is so helpful. Thanks!
Great thank you.
great ! thank you
I love your style, thank you
Cue bid limit raises over 2NT and Michaels....how many points should Advancer hold?
Thank you both :)
With only 6 losers your hands actually worth 16-18 points and your honors are in your long suits I'd always reverse with that hand
+1
Kaplan-Rubens gives it 17.9 too.
The problem still exists though, with a few points less you have no very good rebid either.
How would you respond to 1430 key cards ask with a void suit
2c is a bit of a weird bid because if you're playing fsf then partner can't show his second suit with a 2h rebid
😍😍👍
Why don’t you rebid 1SA?
I did bid 1h.
2C rebid is the most flexible IMO. In this case it would likely discourage club lead in 6D as well. Friendly lead and continuation. Instead of drawing 2nd round of trumps, notice that if spade KQ live for club discards, cash the two side aces and have a high crossruff.
i like your thoughtful.ideas for playing good bridge
Why not bid 2nt?
what about 1nt
What about one nt showing 15 pts after one d and one s?
because partner might bid 4S with 6 low spades
Gqr
doesn't 2d show 6d?
If a rebid of 1NT shows 15 to 17 then 1NT looks good to me.
Would that not imply a balanced hand?
Sure, but what bid will tell my partner I have 15 HCP, 5 diamonds and possibly a 4 card heart suit? Assuming that a reverse shows 16+, your best rebid is theoretically 2 diamonds showing 5+ diamonds 11-15 HCP
partner might bid 4S with 6 low spades
I thought you need 6 to rebid diamonds
What is the “T” please
Ten
Presumably a ♣ lead defeats the contract.
It beats 5D unless you guess hearts. 6D is a poor contract. 3NT is preferable but not cold.
Why wouldn’t you bid 2 hearts?
Bidding a 2nd suit higher than the opening suit, it is called a "reverse" and promises extras (16-21 high card points)
@@4dotaonlyin this case the hand is worth 16 points easily. But the problem is there if you have a few less points.
P has not a strong hand by bidding 5 diamonds but one with distribution if he had an opening hand he should use the 4th colot bid and not the 5 diamond one so I will stay away from the slam !!!
