Partner opens 1NT and we bid Stayman to ask if partner has a four-card major, hoping for a spade fit. Just our luck: Partner instead tells us he has four hearts - not a great fit for our heart void!
What do we do now? Should we bid to show our lovely diamond suit? Or can we bid 3NT even with a void?
(Once the auction is finished, Graeme reminds us to be greedy and to look for our best chance to win a few overtricks. Do you see the best way forward?)

What’s do you do if u have a weak hand of diamonds in response to 1nt (12-14) and use transfers

that must be so disappointing knowing you could win 6NT as well

So interesting, both from a bidding and a play of the hand standpoint. I am a bit confused at how Graeme knew the spade suit was running at trick 8, I believe. If the player with two spades had discarded both, and the player with four spades had discarded only one, that would mean the player who started with four spades now has three spades, the J,Q, and T. Is this such an unlikely scenario that one should assume it is unrealistic, and thus assume the suit is running. I’d love some clarification on this from anyone!

Just counting I think. Rewatch and count the spade discards.

We play 2S transfers to 3C and 3C tranfers to 3D

Hi Cedric - A lot of people play full transfers....2S transfer to clubs and 2NT as transfer to diamonds...it also allows to use 2NT as showing 5-5 weak in the minors....because after 2NT transfer to diamonds...partner can bid 3D with a good diamond suit...the idea that 3NT might be a good shot....and 3C with poor diamond support....so if partner is 5-5...you can now pass. If you play it your way you are going to struggle if you are 5-5 weak and also not going to know if it's right to have a go at 3NT or not.

Transfer to diamonds and then bid spades; choice of 3 games.

Why bid your diamonds? Your better to play 3NT or 4S - your diamonds are best thought of as a long suit for NT strength? Don't fall in love with the diamonds :)

    You could transfer to Diamonds

Hi Graeme, don’t think the awesome teens reply is applicable to bridge😩

But 3NT is the right bid - as it implies you have 4 x Spades
