I did between 32 and 34 yards in one big bed at a local business here in PA two springs ago with only myself and one other guy. Was a little over 8 hour day for the two of us, mind you due to this being a large business with lots of traffic I only had one place to conveniently park our truck and unload from. Was using a 1 ton dump and hauling it in 5 yards at a time, unloading with the second guy and moving it as far as 300 or so feet away towards the tail end and dumping it out in smaller more manageable piles in the bed and he spread it while I was gone getting more mulch. Worked really well for us, if I would’ve had access to the far end of the bed we could’ve easily cut an hour or more off the time, but that’s how she goes sometimes. Awesome videos! Keep it up!
I would suggest putting the mulch on tarps. Helps save on cleaning time and once the pile is low enough you can drag it into the bed. On this particular job I would have connected tarps down the whole curb next to the beds and had the delivery driver dump it in a line on the tarp then you just grab the other side of the tarp and pull it towards you into the bed. Give the tarps a shot lmk what you think Brian
Great job !! Love that tool . It’s always been easier for me to leave my wheelbarrow on the side scooping most of the mulch and then pick my wheel barrel up it will load 3/4 full then shovel in. Love your videos . Did 7 yards today
99% of my mulch jobs I work right out of the truck into wheel barrows.... Keep raising dump to keep it easy to pull down into the barrels. Much faster than scooping off the ground. But I understand in your situation that's how you had to do it. I markup mulch cost around 30% to cover picking it up etc... and charge an hour per yard to spread of my labor rate. I have timed at a steady but not rushing pace how many linear feet I can cut new edges, cleanup the edgings and dump them etc and figured out a figure to charge per linear foot of edging so that makes estimating jobs easy. Also add hours or labor for any weeding or cleanup of leaves that may be needed prior.
You need to get a concrete power buggy. It makes all of the clean up and moving items around a lot more convenient. It has helped a lot with our much jobs
Love watching your videos.i live in northern KY Cincinnati area and we blow our mulch down here.well at least I do.we did 110 yards in 10 hours with 3 guys.i think it's so much easier and u use less product then hand spreading.something to look into in the future especially when u get my age.but keep up the good work.and god bless u and your family Brian.
We do the same here in buffalo we did over 1000 yards in the past ten days with 4 guys, did it out of a dump body and a Finn blower, those things are game changer, great video Brian
Great video and advice! I love my commercial properties for weekends and early mornings when residential clients don't want to be bothered or woken up.
Hey Brian I believe that in most applications a solid commercial blower would do a much faster job than the round rubber spindle on the end of that Echo...hehe. Perhaps if you've got dirt or mud, that thing would be awesome. Good video my man!
Hey man! I love your videos I learn so much about you guys every time! I wish you could make a video on how you measure how much mulch you end up needing for a job. And how much you would charge. PLEASE I HOPE YOU SEE THIS COMMENT! Have a great day!
We have another video talking about exactly how we price. Also, we have an in-depth training course that definitely talks about how to charge! Www.LawntrepreneurAcademy.com
Awesome video, can you please explain in next vid on how to measure a proper yard in mulch. Dumb question I know but a lot of new guys have a hard time properly measuring and bidding
How much would you charge to saw a tree of that size down close to the stump at 2:01 for a commercial property there are at least 20 that needs to be cut
I use stihl attachments, they are awesome, haven't yet finished buying attachments I have a KM 91 R power head, string trimmer, brush cutter, blower, articulating hedge trimmer, straight shaft edger, cultivator
Looks good fellas. I have to do a 30 yarder in a couple of weeks on a giant home. Since theres no way to get the mulch close to the beds i'm renting a dingo...no way I'm walking that kinda distance WO help from a machine!
I helped my friend with his mulch and me him and mainly his dad did 35 yards! It was all bagged mulch and we had to leave the bags under the mulch because he didn’t buy fabric lol
This was a small application, but for any future say 100 plus yards, then keep in mind a bob cat skid steer loader. The Dingo has a bucket about the size of a wheel barrow anyway.
brian can u do me a favor can you take that attachment off and tell me what shaft that has inside of it is it square or is it the round gear looking one?
Uh huh.... Good cover..... I see your strategy.... If the employees are cold because they don't have sweatshirts they have to keep moving to stay warm.....
Hey Brian, your videos are some of the best on youtube. I was just wondering how you would bid a flower bed creating job. Just creating the beds with no mulch or plants. I was planning on using a sod cutter to do the job.
Thanks pal that means a lot. I’m not too good at landscaping just yet, still learning but, I’m sure someone could weigh in and help you out. Good luck pal
Figure out how many hours it's going to take you then multiply that by your targeted hourly rate Say if it's going to take you 6 hours and you charge $60/hr, you'd charge $360. Don't forget to include the time it takes to haul off the debris and the cost to dump it, cost of sod cutter rental etc.. Once you find your total, tack on 10-20% extra for safety measures.. better safe to be over than under
Hey Brian, I’m learning a ton from your videos. Thank you! I’m a new start-up, 7 weeks old. My business is taking off fast. I’m pulling a 5x8 open trailer with my small suv. I’m trying to determine my next step (for next season perhaps) with a trailer and truck. For example; I’m trying to decide if I should purchase a 10’ long covered trailer and smaller truck such as a Ford Ranger, or a trailer long enough to allow a second mower down the road. Which I’m assuming would then require a larger truck such as a F150 to pull the larger trailer. I want to be frugal, yet not lose money when it’s time to expand (longer trailer, 2nd mower, etc). Any input would be greatly appreciated . Thank you in advance!
Get a 6.5/7 by 16, you’ll grow into it. Buy a used F250 if you can, even a 2010 one for example. That power and frame will allow you to plow. Even a regular cab WT is a game changer. You can get one for >$10K
Once it gets super compacted or thick you’ll definitely have to charge for a removal. But around here, that 1-2” seems to be biodegrading year over year so no worries yet
Hey Brian I need some help your opinion . How long did it take you to do 30 yards of bark..how many guys did you hire..did you get done in day..reason I don't know if I should do big job like that.
I struggle to do mulch jobs with my employer. I always bring my own rake because he doesn't carry one on 5he truck to do this work. He always wants us on our hands and knees to do the spreading. I struggle to get up and down all the time because of a disability but the boss still thinks you need to be on the ground and move the mulch with your hands.
wow that’s amazing how much did u charge im guessing around $2500 the most i have done was 4 yards of much hopefully i would close on a deal for this 6 yard job i quote on keep up the good work
angel, then you my friend are a monster. A good rule of thumb is 1 yard per man hour without major tools. I would pay someone good money to see them lay 7.5 yards of mulch (4500 pounds) in one hour using a wheelbarrow only.
Yes, a bidding mulch job video on the bulk mulch would be great. I try to stick to bags to make the #s easier, but it seems that more customers are trying to go the bulk mulch route to try and save some $.
Great video Brian. Most of the time mulching jobs don’t go smoothly for me. I tend to have problems with customers that are not happy with the amount of mulch that I want to put down. For example if I say it will take 10 yards of mulch, the customer will tell me to put down 7 yards because they want a “thin coating”. Even when I tell them it’s not enough mulch they tell me to go through with it anyway. I was wondering if you have experienced anything like this or if I’m doing something wrong with how I bid/install mulch. I calculate mulch for 2-3 inch coverage. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Awsome! Love those kind of jobs for the weekends especially when you can do it with your budds and have a good time. Thanks for the great videos!☀️☀️
All we did was cut up, and sling mulch ha
Works good getting rocks out of grass but for the mulch on a parking lot backpack blower works the best
Agreed. This was just to test it out, but you bet we grabbed the blowers after, ha.
Great job !! Love that tool . It’s always been easier for me to leave my wheelbarrow on the side scooping most of the mulch and then pick my wheel barrel up it will load 3/4 full then shovel in. Love your videos . Did 7 yards today

That's awesome pal, thanks for sharing I am sure that will help some new guys for sure.
You need to get a concrete power buggy. It makes all of the clean up and moving items around a lot more convenient. It has helped a lot with our much jobs
You guys just need to use pitch forks when you fling the mulch it gets a super even layer
We layered it on thicker this time, but yes we do use pitchforks generally speaking.
Making mulch jobs look easy! It looks great. Nice team, keep up the great work.
what you should do bryan is use a pickfork to load wheel barrows with mulch it saves a lot of time
He had both pitch fork and shovel they work best together
Hey brother!! Great video as always and love the tips!! Also that 2620 is awesome

You got it looking god! Nice work! Teamwork is the best way to go!
Great video and advice! I love my commercial properties for weekends and early mornings when residential clients don't want to be bothered or woken up.

Another great video Brian! Got two new Echo chainsaws last week! Love them! That new Echo sweeper piece you got is badass!
Thanks pal! Happy spring :)
Hard labor right there gentlemen, Good job.
Thanks!
Brian keep the videos coming. Thanks

Keep it up man! Great work. John Crist is the man! Ha!
Ha ty!
It looks way better great job
Awesome brother keep up the awesome work i see a F 450 Dump with a plow for snow season and mulch for 2019 keep up the awesome work
Hahaha me too.
Yes please tell me how you bid that job
Nice to have a little tractor with a front end loader
My home is 30 yards of mulch so this was fun to watch how u did it vs me I took some noted
Awesome work🔥Keep it up Brian
Awesome video, can you please explain in next vid on how to measure a proper yard in mulch. Dumb question I know but a lot of new guys have a hard time properly measuring and bidding
Sure buddy
Honestly just takes time. Eventually you can just eye ball it.
Yes plz make a video on how to bid mulch that would help a lot
Sure pal!
100 per yard
Nice video Brian
Looks great! Nice job!
Do use Pitchforks to spread your mulch? Best way in my opinion . Good video!
We do yup
How much would you charge to saw a tree of that size down close to the stump at 2:01 for a commercial property there are at least 20 that needs to be cut
Sorry I don't do much with trees.
With a chain saw? a new chain $20 pair of gloves $20 (lol) dump fee $55 (for me any way) and $15.00 a tree = $395.00
Jon Walker is that including how much you would charge for hourly rate for labor
You should get the bed redefiner attachment for the 2620 to edge those mulch beds it really helps with the maintenance
We have it but I didn't quote that this year. Next year we will do it.
Sounds good! if it isnt in the contract why do it if it isnt mandatory
Attachment Systems are the way to go
I agree they're pretty useful, especially for newer folks on a budget.
I use stihl attachments, they are awesome, haven't yet finished buying attachments
I have a KM 91 R power head, string trimmer, brush cutter, blower, articulating hedge trimmer, straight shaft edger, cultivator
Do you ever remove the old mulch before adding new? If so, how do you go about that on such a large scale?
That attachment was awesome. I would be interested to know how much you quoted per foot
Looks good fellas. I have to do a 30 yarder in a couple of weeks on a giant home. Since theres no way to get the mulch close to the beds i'm renting a dingo...no way I'm walking that kinda distance WO help from a machine!
Nice!
I hope the Dingo doesn't eat your baby
HJW81253212 hehe! For love of dingo
HJW81253212 that would be a HUGE dingo! My baby is 18 and 250 pounds!
I helped my friend with his mulch and me him and mainly his dad did 35 yards! It was all bagged mulch and we had to leave the bags under the mulch because he didn’t buy fabric lol
That's different lol
This was a small application, but for any future say 100 plus yards, then keep in mind a bob cat skid steer loader. The Dingo has a bucket about the size of a wheel barrow anyway.
Yes that would be very helpful forbidden jobs for mulch
We use a finn also.hell of a blower
Where was the bidding part, I like to know how to bid on mulch jobs? Thank You
brian can u do me a favor can you take that attachment off and tell me what shaft that has inside of it is it square or is it the round gear looking one?
Copper Creek Cuts thanks bud
^what he said, sorry been out all day. CCC to the rescue!
The m18 blowers are the cats meow, got one too cant beat Milwaukee tools
Get them guys some matching sweatshirts! You have your fancy new truck and trailer keep that image looking good
I don't have matching sweatshirts yet, it's supposed to be tshirt weather by now lol
Uh huh.... Good cover..... I see your strategy.... If the employees are cold because they don't have sweatshirts they have to keep moving to stay warm.....
Hey Brian where u at mall mulch I know where your home at Michigan but I mean where at Saginaw? If I right or wrong ??? Let me know thank u.
Looks good brother
Great video! What size drop hitch do you have? I was thinking about getting a Weigh Safe 8” Drop / 3” Shank for my 2017 F250 for my Dump Trailer.
Probably 3-4" but I can't remember sorry
Would love to learn how to to price out mulch I have a couple well shelves I got a price on them now
What about using pitch forks to spread mulch instead of hands
I'll stick to a push broom and blower
So usually we take about an inch off the top of the old mulch and then apply the fresh layer do you guys not do that ? Just wondering
You can do that, absolutely.
Hey Brian, your videos are some of the best on youtube. I was just wondering how you would bid a flower bed creating job. Just creating the beds with no mulch or plants. I was planning on using a sod cutter to do the job.

Hi, Brian you need to make a Vedio on the most effective advertising for lawn care and landscaping
Sure pal
Thanks and check out my Channel
awesome work!
30 yards.. God i miss that we do a few that takes anywhere from 50 -80. We do lots of hoa places and business
nice!

For commercial clients, do you reccomend laying mulch down more than once a year?
We do not no
How do you bid on your commercial jobs?
Just measure best you can and bid a little higher than average
I'm
Bidding a job for clean up of property and all beds. And install 37 yes of mulch how to estimate? What's a formula you would use
We have a whole video on mulch pricing!
@@BriansLawnMaintenance 👌
@@BriansLawnMaintenance can you send a link please?
What is the reason for not cutting a fresh edge around the beds?
We didn't quote it for it, simple. Next year we will redfine it.
7:27 DYING!!!!!
In New Zealand I would probably have to cone off the row of car parks due to osh
yes i would like to know how do you call the person or anybody that leaves the mulch for the property im in Alabama
Looking to sell 2 power wheel barrows
Hey Brian I need some help your opinion .
How long did it take you to do 30 yards of bark..how many guys did you hire..did you get done in day..reason I don't know if I should do big job like that.
We have around 32 labor hours in this job maybe.
New to the channel, great videos!!
Thanks for the support!
How many hours it takes 3 guys hard job
I wonder if that broom would work for snow.... 🤔
Maybe but it's too heavy for me to use when it's 20 degrees out!
I'm surprised why no edge on the beds?
We didn't bid that into the price, next year we will redfine them.
Is that the same site you do snow removal for?
Ya
Oh cool

wow that’s amazing how much did u charge im guessing around $2500 the most i have done was 4 yards of much hopefully i would close on a deal for this 6 yard job i quote on keep up the good work
That's awesome buddy keep it up
I’m wondering how long those fins will last before wearing down on the pavement
I wouldn't use it on pavement much my self. But that's a good question.
Do you have any powerwashing videos?
I don't sorry. I think that Dan's Vlog guy does power washing. He seems cool
how long did this take all in - 4ish hours for 30 yards?
3 guys 6 hours each of labor.
Kubota BX tractor from Weingartz. One guy can do 4-5 yards an hour. And the tractor does the majority of the work
My friend Bedell offered his but it was a Sunday, he doesn't try to work Sat/Sun, unless he really needs to! But we will be using it soon enough!
Brian's Lawn Maintenance Mike is a good guy
Lol I can do 1 unit (7.5 yards) in 1 hour with a wheelbarrow in a flat property.
angel, then you my friend are a monster.
A good rule of thumb is 1 yard per man hour without major tools.
I would pay someone good money to see them lay 7.5 yards of mulch (4500 pounds) in one hour using a wheelbarrow only.
Was that the paddle or power broom?
Never mind lol
how did you get your mulch there?
Delivery
So what is that tool for...just cleaning up mulch piles lol
Tons of uses. Rock, cement debris / dust. Tons of uses
How long did it take
6 hrs
I'd love to learn to bid mulch
Good video bro I’m just starting my Landscaping business liked and subscribe
Thanks pal! Best of luck to you
Like the content just subscribed 👌👌👌
Is that double ground?
Brown mulch, I don't know what double ground is lol
Brian's Lawn Maintenance I think it means that it goes through the process of being turned into mulch twice. I might be wrong. Lol
How many square Feet did you estimate on this install to come up with the 30 Yard order Brian? Reason being, I am fixing to do a similar size job..
I did a mulch estimate video after this one, it'll help big time. I used the same formulas for this job. Epz.
That tithing joke was great haha
:)
After you told that joke, I ducked for cover. Just in case.
How do u bid mulch
I just did a follow up video on that topic exactly.
Brian's Lawn Maintenance I saw it thanks.
Don’t pick up the 2620 every time you go back. Just get on the throttle a bit and it rolls itself back for you. Saves effort and time 😂👍
that is good job
Thx pal
Yes, a bidding mulch job video on the bulk mulch would be great. I try to stick to bags to make the #s easier, but it seems that more customers are trying to go the bulk mulch route to try and save some $.
Brian, that job turned out Great! 👍👍👍 How long did it take you guys to finish?
8-2:30!
Brian's Lawn Maintenance you guys kicked butt on that one! 👍👍👍
I spent 11 hours on Saturday edging, trimming and mulching at a house. Already got a few more from the client giving my number to some other people!
What kind of gas mileage are you getting pulling that trailer?
8-10 at best.
How much did you charge?
A fair price for sure.
Did you get to keep it
Yezzir
Do you ever edge before you install mulch ?
If they want it. It’s an additional cost for sure
Thanks
I'll try to cover that in a mulch bidding/estimating video soon! Hopefully it's timely and can help ya this season.
Andrew Maher if first time do 3 if done before do 1 to 1.5
