I'm just starting full time this year since I graduated high school, I hope to get 3 more days of residential mowing and see where it goes from there. Thanks for the videos they're a big help.
@@aprilgeneric8027 Haha! Hopefully he did the name well. I'm trying to get a lot of information, I'm in Florida so season starting in a couple of weeks
Hi Brian, lots of good points. I’ve been in the business for 30 plus years. I’m in a small market...(population). What I’ve found out... do what your competition doesn’t want to do... edging of curbs/sidewalks. Make your properties stand out from your competitors. It’s not that hard to do. Work around your clients hours of operation. That may require you to work in the evenings and or on weekends. Remember people... were in the “service” business.
I'm a small lawn service owner that's just getting started this year. I have tried calling many real estate companies to inquire about maintenance of their commercial properties/ lots until they are sold. I have submitted my application via email like they asked me to but I keep running into flat out rejection, being told that they have someone who does the work even though the grass is a foot tall every day I drive by there, or not even receiving a call back. Any suggestions?
I know numbers are relative to variables what can you give us an example of a commercial property how much you make on that for the season in relative to the size of the property
Thank you for putting this out. This is a great video. Especially when you talk about the pros and cons. So, many landscapers going after the holy grail of commercial and just avoid residential. I would rather have a whole block of residential driveways then have the one commercial I have. Dealing with a condo complex that doesn't want salt because of the cost but then gets upset when plowing doesn't bring out the bare asphalt in 0 degree tempratures. Mowing went well with them.
For weekly lawcare and maintenance when would you typically bill the client..at the end of the month services were performed? If so and they are a net 30 that seems like a long time to wait for payment...at then end of the month plus up to 30 days after that before paid??
Ive got several commercial accounts. They are all good. They are small business. Bidding one now but my gut is telling me they are shopping price and not looking for a lasting partnership
I always as bluntly, are you looking to compare quotes, or are you looking for a long-term partnership. If they get skittish and say "oh no, we're shopping quotes but COULD be looking for something long term", that's automatic just toss them a high number and who cares what happens. 80% chance you're not getting it anyways, so bid it with a 30% premium if you do get it, you're pumped. Lol. Just real talk.
What do you mean specifically? Love to help! We actually did a video on How To Bid A Commercial Site, it's a classic. A quick search will bring it right up!
Great tips brother! Separating from the navy in 6 months and looking to start my own lawn business. I’ll have about 15-20k to start. What would you recommend I buy. Already have a truck
I just retired from the Navy back in December but started my business January of last year. Best thing you can do is get yourself a reliable commercial grade string trimmer, edger, and blower with a 36 inch stand on mower. Your quality, speed, and reliability improve with the commercial equipment. And the 36 inch will fit in almost every single back yard. Get the bigger mower last if at all while starting out. You can always mow a large property with a small mower but not always a small property with a large mower. Lastly, get yourself a few shirts with your logo on them and a sign on your trailer, enclosed or open doesn't matter. The visibility alone has brought me thousands in business including one commercial account that alone is a majority of my 6 figure business.
I disagree with what they are saying I would start out basic by buying a thousand dollar trailer at tractor supply and then start with a 42’ or a 48’ mower and don’t spend more than 5k and then buy Stihl or echo blowers and string trimmers to start
Ouch, I know you're pricing per man hour for 2019, but I cant get anyone to come to work for less than $20 to $25 an hour. That leaves less than $10 per hour profit after paying for everything. This is probably why I don't get commercial accounts as I have been pricing them at $75 per man hour the last couple of years and this year I am planning on $80.
Are you guys looking to get new commercial clients this year?!

Can you do commercial clients if you’re only doing part time in the lawn care business?

Your commercial contract allowed me to land tens of thousands of dollars worth of work in my first year 👊🏻 ready to crush it this year
Love to hear that! Congrats man.
Way to go Brian! as a former commercial landscape salesman, I agree 100% with everything you touched on. Keep up the good work!
Much appreciated!
Great tips Brian! Couldn’t agree more. Higher prices for commercial work doesn’t always mean higher profit margins
Boom!
You talk so fast but so clear!!!! Well done!

This is a great informative video thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤
I can’t wait for the season to start back up. I live here in ohio and from late Dec to Mar we are out. Can’t wait. I’m itching 😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️
RIGHT OHIO SUCKS , I live in Ontario Ohio YUCK...
But how much do you charge? Per acre of your weedwacking, edging and blowing and mowing weekly?
$80-$120 an acre. Just depends how complex the lawn is, and how much trimming and edging versus pure mowing.
Mr Brian, who do you use for business merchandise (hats, shirts) apologies if you’ve answers this prior. You’re great! Love the videos!
Chants daily hustle! They do great work.

Hey Brian, You are very helpful here. I am in Canada. So how do you quote for Calibration of irrigation, inspection and Winterization. for condos?
We have a bunch of great videos and content on those topics!
@BriansLawnMaintenance I can't find it. Can you put the link here if it is not too much trouble. Whenever you have time, please. Thanks
Thanks Brian!!!
what if we don’t offer snow removal :( either way it didn’t snow this year where we offer services
Good luck with Sherwin Williams I did the one your talking about. lots of hoops to jump though and 2-3 month turn around on payment
We manage a few of their sites now ironically. Yes, they're a little daunting.
Good stuff, I used to take care of the Wixom one and the Howell one.
Typically how would much would you bid on 5 acre business property with minimal trimming? Once a year mulch, fertilizer treatment, seeding
$75-$100 an acre
Your online class, does the site not work anymore??
Love the video, do you have a preference as to what kind of mulch to use for commercial installs- bagged or bulk?
We use bulk yessir
5:01 where can we find the contract template?
www.LawntrepreneurAcademy.com
How can we get contract sheet??
Brian great video brother. Do you need to provide insurance info at the time of bidding or signing contracts for commercial properties?
Usually during the bidding process or once it’s secured they’ll request your W9 and then your COI, with their info on it.
@@BriansLawnMaintenance could you make a TH-cam short video explaining this?
Did you run Google ads at the time you got these client through your online page?
Nope, I’ve honestly never ran a Google ad in the last 10 years
@@BriansLawnMaintenance Thanks!
Hey Brian, I was wondering what was wrong with the truck?
Coil Pack wire detached, and that caused the engine to ground out. They got it fixed Friday, thankfully, and under warranty.
What all equipment would you need to go commercial
A quality mower and equipment. No different than any other site.

Coil pack wiring issue.

Those were circa 2018 stats. Today it’s well north of $65-$85 an hour for anyone with a brain cell.
