I was at a Papa M show in Memphis one time and asked David if he played the guitar solo on BPB’s “dream of the sea” cover- he was like “nah but I played a pretty ripping solo on a song called Horses”.
I always wondered who played that solo so fucking good!

@@jamesdoctor8079 prolly around 2003 or 2004. He had the bass player from a perfect circle in his band. I’ve met Doug a few times, but I knew they guys in The Glass and A few in Snowglobe. My favorite Memphis band was the saytrs.

@@Spectrescup Yes, like a co-release US / UK in different formats, mid 1994. The Drag-City-Releases were hard to get in Europe, good that Domino re-released some Palace-EPs. I don't remember Will Oldham's merch-guy hat those Drag City-7inches with em back then, but the Domino-EP was available at our club

Palace Music held the 7 furlong record at Newmarket for years. He then sired Cigar, who was winning the Kentucky Derby and was indisputably the best horse in the world around the time the early Palace records were made.
The early Palace press had photographs of racetracks, and even though this was a Mekons song there are equine references dotted throughout the catalogue ('Riding' for one).
So I think you may be on to something.
