30 years of loving and relating to Morrissey lyrics and I know have depression and hardly ever leave the confines of my bed, this makes me laugh at how accurate it is!
Easily one of the best songs on that album. Home Is a Question Mark is another great one. His vocals get better and better even if the album on the whole isn't one of my favourites. His latest album is a belter though.
Recommended earlier Morrissey tbh.. you heard First of the gang to Die? It's one of his more commercial songs.. be surprised if you aint heard it. But thats a really good song and album.
(this goes to whoever is putting their interpretation on Morrissey and Smiths lyrics online as if they are based on knowledge and fact) Stop inserting your generational values and viewpoints into your interpretation of lyrics that are written either 30 years before you were born by someone living in another time and country. Also, read books, his interviews and biographies to learn and gather the facts instead of parading your opinion as though you are an expert. In an old interview asking how he spent the day, he responded by relating that he went down to the store to buy jam then went back to bed and back to the real world! He's making a similar joke here, it is likely truthful that on bad days he spends the day in bed, but he's also having a laugh about the rumor mill that went on about his celibacy. He has depression, it's a familiar place of cover for those with depression! It's obvious, sometimes people read far too deeply into all of his songs and it gets so convoluted! Although, in all fairness there is often a lot of information in his songs but sometimes he makes it abundantly clear! People using lines from a song he wrote in 1983 to explain the meaning of a line in this song, as if Morrissey would be so desperate and need to get inspiration from something he wrote and sang 30 years ago! It's frustrating, he wants you to listen to what he's saying now! He's making it very clear, there is nothing ambiguous and he is also throwing in a few jokes about his past celibacy. Just enjoy the song and stop trying to be a music scholar when you're not.
