    Men I found finally a shop today that has the best prices. On average 10eu cheaper (sometimes 10-20 euro). I bought Bruichladdich the laddie for 50 euros in stead off 61 in some shops. The the bunnahabhain for 49 in stead off 58 and also the ledaig 10 for 46 in stead off 54. And finally the Arran 10 for 40 euros in stead off 46. So I had a damn good day and I found my new shop with the best prices in Belgium! And it's only a 25min drive.

    This is absolutley one of my favorites in the catagory " Quite young whisky"....it's in good company with Springbank 10yo, Kilkerran 8yo CS, Ardbeg 10yo, Glenallachie 10yo CS and Ledaig 10yo.

    Great bang for the buck! Thanks to Ralfy this one and the Ledaig 10 were added to my bothie in 2021. Like the Ledaig a bit more, but this one is a close second. Great review.

    Nice video. I agree with your score. Very solid and good value. Too bad the 14 is gone. For $10 more the 14 is a no brainer over the 10. Fortunately I bought a backup 14 before they totally disappeared locally.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recently did in my last bottle of 14. I like the 10 a lot, and in retrospect I might have bumped the score up to 87. But the 14 is definitely the better whisky and is already sorely missed. Cheers!

      @SaltyCuban 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gwhisky I managed to get two bottles for $110 with taxes and delivery included. That and the fact that it’s nowhere locally is why I bought those two. The 14 however is not just $10 more. It’s twice as much locally and nowhere online. I know where there’s one. I’m just wondering if it’s worth $100, discontinued not withstanding. There’s also a Scapa 16 which I know has a cult following and is even harder to find for @$80. Can you suggest a better more worthy bottle for @$100 that is generally available ? Victoriana perhaps? Or is the 14 *that* good ?

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SaltyCuban Hmm. It's good but $100 is a bit high. The next best thing would be the 10, though. Victoriana is awesome, but totally different. Something like Ardnamurchan would be another nice alternative if you want a somewhat similar flavour profile. But you've told me enough about your local availability to know that's probably nowhere to be found in your area.
      Scapa 16 is OK. Nothing special and nowhere near the quality of the Arran stuff. Tough question...

    I have not had the Arran 10. However I have had Bladnoch 10. I loved it. I also believe Ralfy was slightly pressured or at least nudged in the direction of labeling Arran 10 his single malt of the year, listening to those reviews . Listen to how he praises Arran for most of the review based more on integrity and innovation and ends it with the tasting calling it a simple malt even. Then in another video he mentions how he really almost gave it to bladnoch but was convinced by the opinions of his donors. I’m just saying he gave much more praise to the bladnoch in his review and I fully agree with the tasting notes.
    I think the title belongs to Bladnoch 10.
    *update* I just bought two Arran 10. Shipment has not arrived yet. I’ll do my comparison then.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried the Bladnoch 10 yet. It's definitely one I'll grab right away if I ever find it here. Heard a lot of good things!

    • @steveno7058
      @steveno7058 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bladnoch 10 is good stuff. But if you think Ralfy gets pressured from someone else when he picks his whisky of the Year, then you don’t know Ralfy. The guy literally has turned down tens of thousands of dollars in free whisky to keep his reviews non-biased.

    • @SaltyCuban
      @SaltyCuban 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@steveno7058 No actually he mentions he was leaning towards the Bladnoch and hadn’t even considered the Arran, until he heard the opinions of his supporters.
      Have you had both? Which do you prefer?
      If you listen to his bladnoch 10 review and compare it to the Arran review, there’s no way you come away thinking he thought Arran was better. I know he didn’t pick Bladnoch 10 because it got discontinued. What would be the purpose of giving that award to a bottle no longer in production. Anyhow as Ralfy says, it’s all done and dusted.

    Finding my way with single Malts after being a mostly Rum drinker, and find your reviews most interesting and informative, with great inserts.
    I thought this Arran was good bang for buck, and for me it had enough going on, I did however notice quite a dry mouth during the night and wondered if it might be sulphur?
    I sometimes have trouble with Reds, and hate MSG.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never noticed anything resembling a sulfur presence in Arran whiskies. However there is a certain "bite" to some Arran expressions that might be interpreted as a drying effect. But honestly, I can't speak to what you may be getting. Whisky tasting is extremely subjective and personal, so you never know...
      Interesting that you're coming into this world from rum! Most people are coming from the bourbon or blended whisky scene. I'm sure you'll have a unique perspective!

      @rshore081 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gwhisky Thanks for the response, never liked Bourbon or the blends, and thought single Malt was a dangerous path, but observing the wee dram in moderation and appreciating the nose and taste is intriguing...looks like an expensive hobby though!

    I had a similar reaction after 20 minutes with the neck pour. Nice, but not very exciting or interesting to me. Nose and palate seemed rather closed off. But I topped up and left it sit for over an hour, added 2 ml water, and it changed considerably. For the better.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gwhisky Thanks. I just found the newer review. Haha. Great that you were able to compare two bottles side by side. Sometimes I suspect a bottling has changed, but it turns out it’s my mood, whatever I last ate, atmospheric pressure, Putin or whatever. Great job with your channel.

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried it before the rebranding. I didn't love it then. In fact I tried all of those wine finishes and found them all decent, but forgettable. I haven't tried it with the new label, but my friend who has had a bottle told me it was quite disappointing.

      Give it a big splash of water. Let in stand in the glass for a while (15 minutes). Then try again. Not the most complex whisky, but it's got some nice cherry and milk chocolate notes. I prefer the 10 though...

    • @Gwhisky
      @Gwhisky  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very different whiskies! Honestly that's quite a hard comparison. I haven't tried the new Deanston 18 with the white label, I've only had the older expression in the brown label. For value I prefer the Arran. As for comparing the tasting notes, I'm not sure. It's been about a year since my last Deanston 18.
