Starlink Best Effort is 10 Times as Fast as our old internet - Game Changer

  • SpaceX and Starlink have just changed our lives. Thank you Elon Musk.
    In 2017, I paid $1,200 to have DSL run out to my home site in the mountains. It never did better than 6.8 download, and it went down all the time. Getting service restored took days (sometimes weeks) and required time off from work. Starlink sets up quickly and provides much faster speeds. The world just go a lot closer.
    Break Heart Orchard is a small farm that we are carving out of previously forested land.
    We will be putting out videos on a weekly basis to document this journey as we build our own home and create our dream farm and Orchard Cidery. Check out our other videos and subscribe, to follow along on this adventure

      Thank you for watching. Starlink is Low Orbit Satellite internet service. It has relatively low latency and high service speeds and for people like me it is a lifeline to modern life. If there was no electricity here I could do solar. But I can’t make my own internet.

    Boy oh boy you guys are gettin, it done. I can't wait for you to be done and moved in. I want you both to be able to have a morning coffee and enjoy that beautiful landscape with just nothing to do. Well you'll never have nothing to do but you'll be able to enjoy a morning or so with just looking at all you've both accomplished. I can't wait and I'm nobody. Just a person enjoying all you've allowed me to see. God bless you both!!!!!!

    Great video. A year ago we moved out of the city to the country. We're not as isolated as you, but we went from having fiber down to the same speed DSL as you have, with no possibility of faster internet in the next decade or so. We just got notified our Starlink is being shipped. Can't wait to try it out!

    Some things you can achieve only in the countryside, one of those is the steam after the rain. I remember in the summer, after a rain, there were always ultra low clouds and steam on our mounts. I live in a wide valley, where it gets very hot sometimes but also cold sometimes, usually when the Siberian wind flows across... The most time we get only wind. It's so nice to see the steam being pushed around by the wind.. 😊 Your project is going to be finished soon, as it seems, some more work required inside and sheetrocking, which will be fast, once you install all "technicals".. It's looking good though, better every day. I think you picked a very nice spot for the house. Cheers.

    You should be able to use that to provide you decent WiFi calling since your phone service is weak. Alternatively, you may be able to use get a femtocell to directly provide cell coverage inside the house.

    • @breakheartorchard4761
      @breakheartorchard4761  ปีที่แล้ว

      We used a Yagi Antenna to boost our cellphones and HotSpot during the Pandemic. It was slow and painful but it was our only option. I imagine that if I have a signal there I could do the same thing to boost phone signal but it wouldn’t come close to the starlink.

    The speeds are pretty much equal between the roaming/RV/Residential Starlink services. I have the official one since July and had a Roaming Starlink for a while. Both had essentially the same speeds. It would only get affected by congestion but unless the deer around your area signed up for it you guys don't have any real congestion just yet. It's bittersweet, I'm happy to have usable internet but the price is a bit too high. I'm hoping Tmobile upgrades the towers nearby soon, I can drive 15 minutes south and can pull 600mbps on their network. At $50 that is the true game changer.

    • @breakheartorchard4761
      @breakheartorchard4761  ปีที่แล้ว

      We have T-Mobile now at the place we rent. But the previous 3 years we had viasat. $170 a month for BS unlimited internet. After 60g you were throttled down to near unusable speeds. Terrible service.

      @growingis4everyone652 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enjoy TMobile and the crazy deprioritizing they are doing now. They have always but it is getting insane now, I just ordered my best effort starlink because my TMobile home internet is unusable as of lately since they opened it to everyone.

    Please run some Cat6 cables in your walls before drywall, one point per room, terminate all of them in the mechanical room where you can connect them to a switch and then connect your router to it. I always recommend cable over Wi-Fi, but with a Lan port in every room you can install cheap Wi-Fi bridges and have great Wi-Fi throughout the house.

      @breakheartorchard4761  ปีที่แล้ว

    Now I wouldn't call us isolated definitely not as much as yourselves but our old line when it worked managed at best 1.6mbs download average was 0.98 the upload was about .6 thankfully we have an excellent parish councillor who though the area is split between 2 exchanges he got the phone company and government to agree to a realistic sign up number to qualify for the fund to help rural businesses and residents to fund an upgrade to full fibre to the premises, it has been so different especially as most government audits etc we have to do have to be completed online it also means it doesn't take me 30 minute to watch a 12 minute video. Until he managed to arrange that though I was seriously looking at starlink as I was just getting so fed up with it as it just didn't look like it would ever get sorted and with a duff line being routinely passed around rather than replacing the broken section I we only had internet or phone 10 months a year.

    Congratulations. I’ve decided to pass on the best effort because if I waited this long might as well wait till full service is available. Now being told mid 2023. Also best effort should be discounted in its not full service. Nothing was said about cost which I thought was strange. I signed up in beta too. February 2021. The say it’s first come first serve but have never assigned a number or posted the list. I’m guessing because they didn’t follow that. The south eastern part of the US is the area with lest coverage.

      I broke down and ordered best effort. People who have options don’t appreciate the drain or stress associated with poor to zero internet service. So I was just informed that my kit was shipped and I’m so looking forward to getting it to see if it will improve my ability to connect.it’s not a slam dunk. I have lots of trees around my house so we will see. Today I got another email from Starlink. My equipment hasn’t even arrived yet and the have upgraded me from best effort to residential. They also thanked me for being a long time supporter. I’m guessing that’s because I first signed up for service in February 2021. Residential gives me prior over other nonresidential users in my area. I’m crossing my fingers!

    What is your maximum download and upload speed when you are standing right next to the router? The reason I ask is that I too have been on the wait list for 18+ months and we just got the "best effort" invite and I'm considering it. The difference being that I will also order the CAT5 adapter and not rely on WiFi, which should get a faster speed when you aren't right next to the router.

    • @breakheartorchard4761
      @breakheartorchard4761  ปีที่แล้ว +1
