James Toney who was pfp top 3 at the time fought 7 times in 1993 acquiring 4 stoppages and 3 UD. In today's boxing we are lucky if the elite guys fight once a year. James Toney at 160-168 was a problem
James Toney is such an awesome fighter. He can move around the rings but doesnt run. He can stay in the pocket and not get hit. Him and Duran are rhe most natural gifted and talented fighters

James Toney was the second best if not the best fighter in the 1990s just behind Roy Jones. He defeated guys like Nunn, Reggie Johnson, McCallum and Barkley. He is imo one of the most under appreciated fighters.
You can tell that James didn't like him by watching the faceoff. This was one of Toney's best performances.
James toney didn't like anybody, he only started mellowing out after he had his first child.
James did it for Tommy Hearns.

James Toney is my favorite and, not to overblow it because Iran Barkley was absolutely MADE for James Toney, but this was up there with the Jirov fight, for me, as the absolute best of James Toney. A brilliant fighter he was.

Aggressive/go-for-broke boxers are my favorite but I also love watching skilled defensive boxers. Timing, speed, and precision allows them to hit and not get hit a lot

Corrales was a very good fighter, and Spence was a great fighter.

One of the best displays of boxing in terms of countering a pressure fighter. Also this is one of Caleb Plant’s favorite fights.
I can definetely see why. Plant loves that shoulder roll uppercut counter, a shame he lack Toneys Gas Tank and power, since he's really, really good

Toney's Got Fast Hands
I've only been a boxing fan for 5 years, but this is the most impressive boxing performance I've ever seen. I have it alongside Ali vs Williams and Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin as the most transcendent fight perfomances I've ever seen.
James Toney is my favourite fighter stylistically, and this is, IMO, his magnum opus.

It was around 1996 or 97, I was only around 19 and 147 lbs at the time and I sparred with Barkley and beat the crap out of him so that shows he was done 😂😂 they claim he is there to teach me but I taught him 😂😂

I read somewhere that Barkley had had surgery shortly before the fight...but same excuse was given for his poor performance against Nigel Benn. James Toney was a boxing god on this night and many others, couldn't put a foot (lol... punch) wrong. A true MasterClass.

It's So Obvious & Clear that barkley wasn't even Conditioned for this fight. Probably "Half A's Trained" for it. On the othahand, Toney was Well Conditioned and Oh So Very "Comfortable" in there. Just kept Bussin him Up Every Round 🤜🏾😫💪🏾. Eazy Work on em.
Toney amazing but Barkley was way last his prime and had been stopped and beaten by Duran in 1987.
