  • This is the first upgrade episode for the WLToys 10428-B Budget Build Series. In this episode we're giving the vehicle a once-over, and locking up the front diff for $2
    The total spent this week is $2, which leaves a balance of $18 from week one that can be carried over.

    I justo bought a 10428, it's going to be my first RC car since I was 10, so I'm very excited. Your videos have given me great ideas to make a cheap car cheap and effective upgrades. Great content, keep it up. Respect.

    I've been wanting to pick one of these up... believe it or not, I can't even afford THIS!! 😭
    IT will happen, I've got to figure something out. At any rate, this Series is going to be most helpful! I already know that under the skin, it's a little too much like a Twin Hammers. That might make it a little easier to find hop-up parts!!
    Enjoying it so far!!

    Great vids. I just grabbed one of these for my son to pull behind his HG P407. So I will be following this series. One thing that would have been great at the end of this video would have been to show a before and after performance clip. I have never seen the Silly Putty trick, but I am new to crawlers. So it would be nice to see how much it improved the crawling ability of the vehicle. Liked and subscribed.

      Because I did these upgrades on the dead of winter, I didn't really have an opportunity to put them each through their paces, but I did do some comparison testing inside, and I have a running video that concludes the series.

      @@BudgetRC_Channel I saw those vids after I posted this comment. You really did wonders with that steering. When I get back to Thingiverse I'll drop you a follow. I am going to be putting a lot of free designs on there for RC trucks and buggies.

    Well done videos. New subscriber. Great concept and execution. One note - may want to tell viewers not to use brake / carb cleaner on any plastic in the diff, rubber or plastic anywhere else (eats / melts both), or any bearings (eats grease inside them) and especially careful of overspray near lexan bodies!
    Can't wait to watch the rest. Well done.

    Great video! But again, how do I get rid of the buzzing on the shifter using the transmitter? (I'm a rookie :) If you could do a shot of the transmitter selections for adjustments, that would be great.

    I have one of the cheap screw sets that they have on eBay the one with the 3 mm screws and it also has 3 and 4 mm grub screws in it and it also has the red o rings for your shocks I don't believe they will fit a differential or anything but they're good for putting inside dog bone cups to anyways I believe it's a 4 mm grub screw and you have plenty of them in that little kit to put them on both sides of all of those shafts good job buddy I've got everybody in the wltoys Owners Group on Facebook watching your series you should join a bunch of good guys peace out great idea for these videos

    Won't the gears just make a groove in the putty making it useless? Since the putty doesn't really settle I figured the gears would just spin once and pack the putty everywhere except in the gears it's hard to explain what I'm thinking lmao.

    • @BudgetRC_Channel
      @BudgetRC_Channel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silly putty is very thick and does a great job locking the gears.

      @@BudgetRC_Channel I'll have to give that a try on my Yeti I don't want to commit to fully locked front because I like having a little slip like you said it gives it a spot to give so you don't snap or bend a shaft or something.

    Would using like a really thick graphite grease give you something in the middle of the putty and the light oiling?

    • @BudgetRC_Channel
      @BudgetRC_Channel  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe. Something thick enough to hold its shape and not dry out would work.

    Sorry guys, but the stock differential gear in wich material are made? Thanks you

    • @BudgetRC_Channel
      @BudgetRC_Channel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gears are all metal on this one, but the cheaper trucks like the 10428-C that come without the 2 speed transmission have plastic diff gears

  • @Rosalie-Miara
    @Rosalie-Miara 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are the two gears just one with less power, or is the slower one with more power for rock crawling?

    • @BudgetRC_Channel
      @BudgetRC_Channel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lower gear allows for more control and torque at low speeds, the high gear allows for a higher top speed.

    • @Rosalie-Miara
      @Rosalie-Miara 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay understood :) But is it only a power reduction or another ratio?

    • @BudgetRC_Channel
      @BudgetRC_Channel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Rosalie-Miara It is a mechanical reduction in the transmission. The motor gets the same power applied regardless of what gear you choose.

    I would have thought to use hot glue. Would that hold as well?

    • @BudgetRC_Channel
      @BudgetRC_Channel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would imagine that hot glue would hold fine. It would likely be a lot harder to remove. Plus, the silly putty will give in a high stress situation which might save an axle shaft.

    • @jasonkirkland7587
      @jasonkirkland7587 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the failure point is the $1 worth of silly vs ~$20 to order and replace drive shafts

    This good for offroad ?

    • @BudgetRC_Channel
      @BudgetRC_Channel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Offroad" can mean almost anything. This vehicle tries to be a "jack of all trades" in the sense that it tries to be a hybrid between a crawler and a basher. Because of that, it's not great at either, but it can be upgraded to do one or the other better. As I stated in the video, my upgrades are focused on making it a better trail/crawler at the expense of bashing.
