Absolutely no problem with people being innovative and using new materials to good effect. The advance in fly tying materials is fantastic and flytyers are quite right to explore their potential. Personally I would have no qualms about trying it. People used to say the same about the booby, and it saved many a blank for me.
Hi Lindsay, thanks for sharing this. This tying method works a treat. I have just tied up a few. Can't wait to give them a go. Kind Regards Mike Robinson 🎣
Very true, I totally agree! If its not breathing its fair game.....lol. I don't agree with spraying smelly stuff on flies either, but thats a can of worms for another day if you will pardon the pun.
Ha ha ha... nicely done Lindsay! I’ve had friends rake me over the coals telling me “euro-nymphing” isn’t fly fishing. Like you I think do what you enjoy. My biggest problem with the squrimy material is the durability. Mine fall apart after six months or so.
I find they work well in the winter months, other than that not so much. As far as Euro-nymphing goes if its good enough for the best fly fishermen and women in the world its good enough for me.
Don’t use any varnish with the squirmy material, it will eventually fall apart. I have squirmy worms in my fly box from several years ago & are still like new.
I would class myself as a bit of a purest but if a fly is catching fish I’d be happy to get it on my cast. A fly like that could save a blank day. Keep the videos coming Lindsay Kind Regards, Scott
great tutorial, Lyndsay. "not really fly tying"? this is where fly fishing and jig fishing merge definitions! great looking fly (lure???) another debate is whether Czech nymphing is fly fishing no fly line used?! we love a good argument!🤣👍👍
i would not call it a fly but, what trout or any fish would pass up a nice worm . good bait for when the fish wont hit your favorite fly !!!!!! got to give one a try thx!
Lindsey wot a great patten iv been trying for 20years I will be a couple of those up if I can find out where to buy that type or materal from (and I would just like to say people should move with the times) so keep the videos coming buddy
That is a deadly looking pattern. Going to tie a few to try out at the local fishery. I would expect this do to well during the winter for the deep feeders. Fly tying materials have evolved during the years and so have the patterns. If a pattern is allowed on my local fishery then I will fish it. I have no problem with the purists who want to remain with traditional patterns and materials. There is room in this great sport for all of us but innovation in tackle and techniques is essential - George Skues is an example of someone who did this. ProTackle have all the elements required.
Thanks for the introduction to the dark side :). In a more serious note, does the length of the tail of the squirmy tangle with the hook? Will there be a need for either a thread bump or a wrap or 2 behind the tail?
With ordinary squirmy material I have found that happens but it is rare. Not sure about this stuff it is much thinner, I have fished this very pattern a bit and had no problems.
Whaur th' hell did ye git that lamp? ah cannae fuckin' fin' yin. Th' bloody lamps ur either tae muckle or th' fuckin' light cone is pumpin' huge. Or is wee enough bit th' batteries ur dear... Crakin' pattern by th' wey... Cheers 'n' greating Chris
Lmao!! I've got a few different types of squirmies in my box, it's not the easiest material to work with but they work, Stay on the dark side!!! ATB Chris.
Thanks for sharing Lindsay saw the materials for sale but never knew how to use it I learned something new today
Glad it was helpful!

Agreed, wouldn't be without the booby on a big Stillwater.
I’m a squirmy fan! Very nice video, Lindsay!!!.......Thank you 👍🎣
Awesome! Thank you!
XD the squirmy divides the fly tying/fishing fraternity. Nice unique tying effort.
Glad you liked it!

I love tying flys with traditional materials, but if you can tie it on a hook it's fly tying. Nice wee worm Lindsay.

Hi all, we have a couple more colours of Squiggle Worm uploaded to the website
Is that your own personal stash....lol.
@@lindsayiflyfish yep 😂
How do you fish this kind of fly and are they legal ?
You can fish it nymphing style or under a dry fly. Depends on the fishery if they allow them.
I would class myself as a bit of a purest but if a fly is catching fish I’d be happy to get it on my cast. A fly like that could save a blank day.
Keep the videos coming Lindsay
Kind Regards,
Scott
Thanks Scott, as I say in the video if its within the rules of the fishery then live and let live. Thanks for watching pal.

Hi Lindsay, great method of tying these. One question, where did you get that type of squirmy material? Thanks Georg
It came from Upavon Fly Fishing.
Lindsey wot a great patten iv been trying for 20years I will be a couple of those up if I can find out where to buy that type or materal from (and I would just like to say people should move with the times) so keep the videos coming buddy
Robert, I think that is one of the reasons we are failing to attract younger anglers into the sport. Thanks for your support buddy.
Where do you get that material?
Its a hardline product now sold out from where I got it the link is in the video description buddy.
I've been struggling with the worm material it always splits.
Are you using superglue? That can break it down quicker.
@@lindsayiflyfish yes I'm using super glue I didn't know it damaged the squirmy material what do you suggest thanks in advance mate.
@@Loyalist-ul6qm Don't use super glue, I use UV resin to finish the fly off.
@@lindsayiflyfish you said superglue in the video man typical scotsman can't make up his mind 😂😂😂😂👌
@@Loyalist-ul6qm Yeah but all those ones fell to bits.....lol.
Going to bash some of these up.
They go great guns for trout and grayling.

Well put Brendan, folks should fish what they feel comfortable with as long as it is within the rules.
Nice take on tying them I'll not give you any greef they catch fish that's for sure
