- It's the second World War and Nazi-Germany plans to disrupt allied shipping all around the globe in an efford to hinder resupplyruns by ship. The proven method was submarines and while they had had quite a lot of those, they figured it not enough. Thats why they requisitioned ordinary merchant-ships and turned them into disguised warships, so called "Handelsstörkreuzer" (Trade-Interrupt-Cruiser). One of those per-se Pirateships was the 'Atlantis' (former 'Goldenfels'); This video is about this very ship and why its voyage was so important.
This video was a gigantic topic that I had to shorten to not have a 3h long video. However, the sources and wikipedia articles should provide an more in-depth overview of the story of the 'Atlantis'.
All content on 'Feathered History' is presented in historical context for educational purposes.

How did you end up here? Nobody reads the description :D - บันเทิง
A movie was made in the 60's named Under Ten Flags, starring Van Helfin as the Captain based on the Atlantis
No mention of him being Jewish, but showed protecting Jewish captives!
Indeed! I didn't watch it, as it is very hard to come by, but some of the footage I used in this video is from that movie!

I don't think that it is against the Geneva Convention to sail under a false flag as long as a ship shows its true colours before opening fire. I know the Royal Navy did it during the St Nazaire commando raid of 1942. ( th-cam.com/video/07Zd0Oy8JyQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LDFcJWkQeSbnNA7h )
As an aside, my father was serving aboard HMS Devonshire when she intercepted and sank the Atlantis.
Keep this great documentary going! This is a very well done doc. with great pictorial videos that I have not seen before.
Well done on an excellent video! For anyone with more interest a book was published by Bantam in the '50s ("The German Raider Atlantis") with Capt. Rogge as one of the two credited authors...
Ich habe von allen Hilfskreuzer Bücher ausser über die Atlantis hab ich noch keins gefunden.
Pls do more about the raiders and in general
I agree. Sending any warship out without a supporting fleet isn't smart.
Hey man I appreciate this imma watch this real quick
Sehr guter Beitrag zur deutschen Marinehistorie! Weiter so! Ich (wir) warte(n) auf neue Folgen!
Ich hoffe innerhalb der nächsten Woche eine weitere Folge parat zu haben. Habe jetzt schon länger daran gearbeitet
Yo wtf 14 views seems to be the only video I've found on the topic
Thank you my man. It is a very obscure tpoic I found by chance. I dived way to deep so I decided to make it into a video! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
The most successful German merchant raider was the Moewe from WW1. In WW2 the most successful raider was the Pinguin.
Oder die SMS Wolf die Möwe hatte 2 Feindfahrten .
Yes it's a fantastic video
Amazing that they reached home being towed by a submarine
Wait, the lifeboat is towed by the U-Boat even when the U-Boat dives?
No, they towed only on surface.
Cool af
