What also makes Yan so good, is his ability to put pressure on his opponents. He's able to do that a lot more safely because his defense is on point, eventhough he's pressuring is opponents his guard is always up so that he doesn't get countered
I think his guard is what enables him to keep pressure while being a precision striker, hes always in range while being defensively responsible. snipers usually fight from the out side so it makes his style interesting
@@stanclark3992 My comment was about the importance of forward pressure , and that Yan does that. I stand by my comment. As for the JLFS. Did you learn that or just about Joe Lewis? Joe was very insightful about fighting and he put together a syllabus on how to fight to help others do the best they can.
@@stanclark3992 forward pressure works in boxing & MMA against high level opponents. Multiple fighters have become champions using it correctly, either to counter like Conor or make you tired like Yan
@@matt15saints Thank you :-) Stan was never unfriendly, he just went off on a tangent that had nothing to do with what I said. I wish the best for his journey - and yours.
The knockdown in his last fight was pretty "flashy" to me. The thing is that he does his best work with boxing. He is one of the guys who could transition to boxing and do well, because he has depth to his game.
He can go flashy, like against Cory sandhagen with the spinning backfist. But that was very very measured and Cory was finding the answers for Yan's offense so he switched it up.
I'm glad you did this, one of the fighters I mainly base my style on because he sticks to the important things so well. What I also noticed is how he uses his shell offensively; he shells up, making the opponent drop their guard a bit or step in to attack, when he simultaneously steps in and throws bombs. Really worked well in sparring for me so far, too.
Petr Yan got very very good at the basics and now they look advanced as hell with the way he blends them and changes mid-fight. This is why I was stoked as hell to hear rumors of him potentially linking up with the Lomachenko camp. Imagine Petr Yan's clean striking fundamentals enhanced by the bottomless reservoir of technique of the Papachenko-coached stable.
Hey Coach! I just watched your Bellator MMA debut last night. Amazing heart to fight through the first takedown and amazing fight IQ and distance control to prevent the takedown. The body shots were textbook and that flying knee was just icing on the cake.
@@sebastianquintana5412 this bellator live replay bro! I can’t remember the number. But it’s free on TH-cam. Coach Varga is like the 3rd fight on the main card
You should definitely look into what makes Shakur Stevenson so good! He has one of the highest striking differentials in boxing (over 4.5) even in title fights
Yan gets hit a lot, I love his style but a lot of natural toughness is needed to play the 2 hands up guard for 25 mins in small gloves , a lot of people would have not been able to take the punishment he takes just like gaethje, there are styles that come naturally better to some people but again long term those micro shocks to the brain don't seem healthy but hey is mma is a dangerous contact sport anyway ...
8:08 if you compare Yan defense vs Poirier defense which you think works best for mma, the problem with both hand sup is you will for sure get your head rocked even if you guard, I see Yan and Justin gaethje use this and I can't see their careers going on for too long, but Dustin Poirier defense I see it as more dynamic and effective in evading the punches and also in allowing your head not to be shocked all e time from all those punches, the proper defense in mma is really an interesting topic as most mma fighters lack a solid defense they have so much space the default defense is to step. Back but Dustin does. A great job of rolling with the punches and using his elbow to deflect them too

I model my style a lot off him and Volkanovski as a shorter fighter. Volk does more feints but Yan has such beautiful textbook technique with those flashes of creativity like you said. That's just the kind of style I want to have! Thanks for another great upload! 👌👍🔥
In the same boat as you. I like to mix both of their styles for maximum effectiveness in terms of striking and closing distance. I also mix in Poirier’s defense as a solid guard when I’m in close range. Just learn from many to create your own style imo
I think something else that makes Petr so good is that he takes his time to collect his opponent's timing and rhythm. You'll see him lose the first round to have a feel for his opponents like he did against Aljo and Corey, but eventually he begins to become more aggressive in the second or third round. Plus, his defense is always on point so that's what allows him to take his time and not rush in.
Yan defence is basically from boxing skills. His hands always protect his head and a little bend to protect his lower side. Absolutely you got his fights moves correctly. Aljamain had never kick Yan effectively even those high was not a hit.
Piotr is impressive, and your breakdown very interesting, but what about is attitude to highly charge his punches? He does it very effectively, no doubt, but is it something that anyone can do, Or is strictly related to his own physical abilities?
How does he get back to the top after that fluke dq against aljo? Aljo will never take another fight against him and that's honestly the smart play for him, why take a fight u cant win? Let someone else knock him off and hope u match up better against that guy's style
If u have the belt u cant decline fights. Its ur job as a champ to defend all the top fighters next in line for the title, if they decline then they will be stripped of the belt
watch his other fights. like varga said, petr sprinkles in the flashy stuff in the middle of all the basics. flashy stuff only ends up being like 5 to 10 percent of the whole fight.
There was an inch of space of air between aljo's knee and the mat, there's photographic evidence of this But even if there wasn't, shouldn't matter Aljo gave up and stopped fighting back and just took to hiding on the ground without being able to take the fight there himself That alone should be enough to get DQ'd for
