  • MASSIVE HOSPITAL SEWER CLOG! BABY WIPES - Ep. 58 Drain Pros
    In this video we had a late call come in from a local hospital that the sewer main leaving the building was fully backed up and had lifted/unseated the man hole cover. After arriving we found the man hole had blow out and was filled with thousands of baby/adult wipes. We blocked off the road with cones to hydro scrub back to the man hole with 4000 psi of water for a few hours before the clog finally released and allowed thousands of gallons of sewer to free flow into the city sewer. I love when people argue with me that wipes are flushable and don't cause clogs, it makes me laugh. Glad we were able to get the hospital back up and running clearing the sewer blockage!
    Thanks for watching

      Drain Addict has attachments that look like they spray a lot harder. Seems like a double barrel would have opened that faster. A sewer vacuum would have helped by clearing that manhole.

    I was taught only flush the three P’s: poop, pee, and paper
    If you flush feminine care products and wipes you should be forced to clean out a backed up sewer line. Same goes for those who put grease down drains.

    Where I live my whole town got a compete overhaul of the sanitary sewer system. We have a hospital. When they did the new line from there, they installed what looks like a vault style sewer. I asked what that was, they said it has a basket in it to catch anything that doesn't belong in the sewers so the line isn't getting clogged

    When I was younger I remember many hospitals and public buildings had small wall mounted electric incinerators in bathrooms for nappies, feminine hygiene products etc. Reduced anything non flushable to a few specks of ash. Perhaps it's time they made a comeback?

    • @DrainPros
      @DrainPros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That would be awesome, I understand why some people flush them because there gross and covered in stuff. There’s an embarrassment factor. Seems like a logical solution 👍

    • @khamsinshamal7988
      @khamsinshamal7988 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spencer Wilton Good point. DrainPro is probably right about the embarrassment issue and you also have maybe limited movement after surgeries and so on. But watching this unclogging, it struck me that the hospital has a responsibility for health and safety. I mean, there sure were tissues and crap in that clog which should not have entered any public system due to the bacteria and other nastiness they might contain.
      So the incinerator (with high enough temperature to destroy whatever is thrown at it) idea is not a bad idea. On the contrary - they could even construct it so that it contributes to the general heating, heating of water or similar.

    • @lexiwagner4541
      @lexiwagner4541 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless constructed so that is contributed to building or water heater incinerators use a large amount of energy and produce awful pollution which is probably why they aren't used for that

      Maybe the laws are different in Australia, or maybe it's because Ratty is such a strict supervisor, but I don't think Ollie would have let all that trash go down to the City. I've watched DA enough to know that he would have scooped out as much of that trash floating in the first manhole as possible before he jetted. He probably would have had a strainer basket at the exit of the 8" pipe in manhole 2 so he could catch the trash already in the pipe and toss it in the bin where it belongs. Finally, I'm betting he would have jetted the line heading to the city sewer as well just to make sure it was all good.

I learned and all of the USA needs to learn how they do work. As for me and my house the ONLY things that get put in our toilets are pee, poop, and paper! We got a bunch of newbie staff at one point and apparently they didn’t care because we got a letter about it, on the other hand we shared a system with a day care and basically very small children and confused elderly are about the same so who knows.

    The jetting machine that's being used is completely inadequate for the type of work it's being used for, that's why it tuck 2hours to clear this choke, a truck mounted jetvac is what's needed for this task, would have cleared problem in ten minutes, what they are using is fine for a domestic choke, not for this type of work, I've been at this work for thirty years, working for Dublin City Council.

    Might I suggest that if you could build a pole with legs at a 45 degree angle to each other and perpendicular to the pole, with a light or two mounted to the pole so that it can be lowered down the side of the hole, that you would have a convenient source of light that would be out of the way of the hoses and that they could not knock down into the sewer.
