Key Players in the Opening of Parliament - Clerk of the House

The Clerk of the House swears in members of Parliament by administering the oath (using the Bible or other personally significant item) or affirmation, both of which are promises of allegiance to the King. The Clerk also acts as chairperson for the election of the Speaker.
The Clerk of the House is involved in the Commission Opening, the Confirmation of the Speaker, and the State Opening.
