Gosh! The snob seems to have quite a deep backstory and a rich character now! Why is he alone and sobbing on his birthday? Is he so poor that he can now only afford eating out in fast food chains? Did he lose his wealth? Or did he never have wealth at all - grown up in poverty - is it all an act - something he aspires to but can never reach? Is he an alcoholic? What's the root of his alcohol problems? And he is a fraudster, pretending to slip on water for a free dessert! What else is he fraudulent about?! I think we need a full length feature film to explore fully...
He created a persona so he could enjoy the free alcohol and food at art exhibition openings, and now he is stuck in the character until he gets home to his lonely life😢
He got stabbed in prison ;)
I imagine that he lost his job and now has no money, lost his friends because of it too, but he's too snobbish to let go of his former habits and mannerisms.

Hilarious sketch! It reminds me of the time my grandma (in her 70's at the time) brought me to McDonald's. She went "where's the cutlery?". The guy replied "Um, you eat it with your hands, ma'am" and she replied "And I suppose if I order a coffee, you'll pour it straight into my mouth, will you?"

I think it's meant to show he doesn't have friends because he is a snob, but I personally think he's nice and is passionate about something he likes, but it's sad he is alone in this. One day he will find fellow food-snobs and they will celebrate his birthday together.
Glad to see The Snob enjoyed his deep fried South American root vegetables with the course ground beef paté and purée of tomato to add to the culinery experience.

I love this. It reminds me of my granddad, who had the routine to test on different cafes and restaurants with his friend and try something new every week. Once he told us they were to this place called "M C Donald" but they were not too impressed with the coffee and service there. I miss him, what a legend.

Like the scene in Minder, when Arfur breezes onto a bus without paying, to the bemusement of Terry (or maybe it was 'the new guy'), not to mention the driver. He was so used to being chauffered around in his Rover, or Merc, or whatever it was, he wasn't aware that, even in the '80's, bus conductors were a dim memory, and it had been 'one - man - operation' for years.
In his defence, London held on to open platform buses that treated you like a grown - up until well into the 2000's, on certain routes. This was not one of these.

I love the duo of Hog playing a character, doing a scene without being very scripted and Foil following a long, reacting on whats happening. Like in this sketch or Anne&Oisin. It's a golden combination

and proceeds to fake a fall. He must really be desperate for money. And may I add, Foil's acting with his eyes is brilliant. Might we see the Snob in the hospital, either due to actually hurting himself with this "fake" fall, or go back to after he got shanked in prison perhaps? I have idea how that would go for the person who has to share a room with him 😇

I recently learned that this character type is actually very old. In the oldest book of jokes, Philologos, the butt of many jokes is The Scholar, a guy who is very knowledgeable about things in textbooks, but struggles with understanding typical social norms. It speaks to how hilarious that combination is that we're still using him 1500 years later.

I just absolutely love the Snob! When I see him poking his head in from the side, it instantly puts me in a good mood! But to be honest, I always laugh the most when he is sobbing into Foil‘s shoulder…😂

To be fair, I went to a snobby restaurant with no menu. It had a chalkboard because everything was made fresh. It was a $100 meal with five courses and we went to McDonald’s afterwards because we were still hungry.
It's now 2 months since I watched this and I still occasional get sad on behalf of the snob. Can we please have a happy ending for him 🥺

Genuinely felt so sorry for him when he started singing happy birthday.
The snob comes across a more like an anthropologist or socially clueless but sincerely well-meaning tourist than just a snob. I mean, more human than usual. I felt really sad for him about the birthday! Foil was brilliant, you could definitely see his back story in the way he reacted--great acting there!

I actually got quite sad seeing the Snob cry. It for some kind of reason broke my heart, and it felt so real and his snobbism seemed to be coming from somewhere outside of just being a sketch. Fantastic video and as always great acting! So sad my sister and I won't be able to see you in Paris. Best of luck!

No way! I learned about corkage just yesterday so I felt very smug when that came up 😄 But what a rollercoaster of emotions! I expected the snob to be stabbed (the setup was just too familiar) but the birthday took me by surprise. Poor lad!

I can confirm I have never visited McDonalds as an adult, without there being a breakdown of some sort involved.
The sugar and possible cafeïne induces so much hyperactivity, adrenaline and nausea that any argument you are having with the one sitting opposite you, wil automatically escalate.
I just finished rewatching Downton Abbey. I must say it matches the theme accurately. I could easily imagine the Dowager Countess behaving this way in a McDonald's.

The Snob's story is something i am unexpectedly invested in.
From bothering people in museums and airplanes, his want to be intellectually superior drove him to spend all of his money on events. Thus, he began sneaking into places like cinemas.
After several break ins to cinemas, museums and other events, the Snob was finally caught by the police and imprisoned.
In this video, we see the Snob has been released from prison. He eats at fast food places and must take the bus, as it's all he can afford.
His old ways seep through in a desporate attempt for money, and tries to stage an insurance scam, but the mention of security cameras scares him straight as he doesnt want to go back to prison.
Where do i see this series going? Well, i think:
Snob in rehab
Snob in court
Snob at a reunion
Snob meeting his parole officer
Snob homeless
Would all be tons of fun to see.
I have to confess something.
Normally I keep replaying the sketch over and over as I'm commenting, just because ya know.
But for the Snob I have to pause it because his voice is so... well it's driving me insane, is the nice way of putting it 🤣🤣🤣
Don't get me wrong, I will watch this a thousand times because it's freaking hilarious, but... for now...😆

Brilliant! This may be my favourite Snob sketch so far. Also Foils performance seemed particularly nuanced to me. Do I see a difference between Snob sketches where there is none? It may be due to a feeling of 'New year, new *moi*'. Who knows? (Only the Snob knows.)

Superb. That is 100 % accurate. If McDonald's worker would say Bon Appetit to the Snob and instead talk to the construction worker drinking a bottle of beer to MC Royale and say "Sir do not throw the bottle we have security cameras in here" that would be so Parisian.

I actually had to pause the video in several places to, ahem, allow myself a few chuckles. Compliments to the writing team for allowing us, viewers, to experience the bitterness of this pauvre homme, who tried to celebrate his birthday comme il faut, but was cut short in his endeavours, his hopes crushed, his dreams shattered. I missed the Snob. Brilliant acting from both Seans.
Also, I bet this will become Foil's favourite sketch of 2024 since he could just munch his food throughout the sketch.
Ah it's my birthday too. Feel sorry for the chap he seems like he's fallen on hard times. I'd welcome him into have a birthday lunch, he's just a bit misunderstood and lonely. Not always a fan of the snob, but I really enjoyed this. Livelier, and so sad. Multilayered. (Also not a fast food person so that helped). Hope you all had a great Christmas and New year break.

Second half of this sketch hit way too close to home. This is basically documentary footage of my last birthday. The guy even dresses like me.

I remember when we had first moved to Australia from the UK back in the early ‘80s and I was desperate to see my grandma. I wrote saying if she came to visit we could go to Mc Donalds. She wrote back saying she wasn’t sure it was right inviting herself over to Mrs McDonalds’ for tea. She did eventually come out for a visit and we did go. Funny, she seemed to be more at home at what would be a stately home if it were in England, having a Devonshire Tea. ❤
