I actually purchased this bike from Ken and the crew at Kaplan Cycles last year. Love the bike. I like the way they do their reviews/videos, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again. This is my second Honda VT1100, my original is a 1996 Honda Shadow VT1100C2 ACE, and even though they're slightly different styling, the engine is unbeatable. You Rock Kaplan Cycles!!!!
At now, 23 years old, this bike actually is a legit classic...I have a 750 Aero, wish it was the 1100 power wise...great little bike, only complaint, needs a bigger motor...this is the one I need...but I love my 750, I actually have a bigger bike & still ride the 750 more...
I bought this bike new in 2000. I wanted a cruiser after a lifetime of race bikes. I was immediately underwhelmed by its performance and sound but thought it was just going to take some adjustment time. Then after the second year it began to rust out. A Honda rusting, really? Yup. Finally, I just kept seeing guys on Harleys who seemed to be more performant and had less "plastic" on them. And the sound, well, I did have some envy there. And I'm only 6 feet tall but my legs were never able to stretch out on the Aero. Anyhow, I took a rock to the engine bottom one day and was told that the metal was crap and unweldable; I would require a new engine. So I bought my first Harley - a 2014 Fat Bob (Dyna). Turns out the Shadow isn't worth much used either. My GOD did the Harley have more power and ride smoother!!! I was absolutely unprepared for it. Now, 10 years later, I suspect I will never give up my Harley; it's the very best bike I have ever owned.
Your Harley is a rattle trap compared to how Honda makes these bikes. Mine is 23 years old without a spot of rust. I've got a Heritage from the same era and all the chrome is faded and rusted out.
I bought my 1998 in 2000 also and can second all those points except the rock hitting the engine. Rust on the spokes, and other chrome trim and aluminum all needed constant polishing. Terrible vibration in the handlebars, foot pegs, seat and gas tank from the single pin and almost impossible to sell used - no one wanted it but when I see it in the video I'm really impressed with the looks all over again. Unfortunately, all other cruisers including Indian and victory have an inauthentic feel. Nothing has the spirit of HD and the clones of that engine.
I bought a 1998 black & silver (red pin stripes) Aero new in Las Vegas and shipped it to South Africa. Still own it, I absolutely agree with you, fantastic build quality and a real GTO motorcycle…gas, tyres and oil. I don’t think I’ll ever sell mine! Made in USA is the cherry on the cake! Love it!🏍👍
@@robmarsh2217 My former South African business partner and good mate who now lives in Brissie, recently acquired a ’98 Shadow Aero in really good nick, but littered with Harley lookalike bits on it. Anyway, he’s just got the last of the genuine Honda bits he needed and it pretty much back to stock and looks gorgeous! He rode mine in Johannesburg once in the early 2000’s and has been looking for one ever since…rare as hens teeth in Oz apparently! Absolutely loves it…🇦🇺🏍️🇿🇦🍺
Hello Brothers I almost bought one about a month ago the end of August 2023 it had the hard bags , it was the 98 model I think and it was two- tone turquoise and white beautiful with windshield I overdo $ 2,700 he said make it 3000 and he would have delivered it from Arkansas a couple of hundred miles into southern Missouri Ozarks! Anyways I didn't do it my driveway is washed out and I'd have to keep it under a tarp.outside, It's My Life
I bough a 1998 in spring of 2000 the original owner picked it up as a left over. Originally, I believe the Aero had a sticker price around 12K! I had the single pin crank but developed wrist pain after 2 years and 10K miles. Strangely, it was impossible to sell privately, I only got two call after advertising it for months - I sold it through a consignment shop. Gas mileage was terrible at 32 MPG with stock pipe and large windshield and lowers. I had the guide plug leak and did the original how to repair write-up. Handlebars too wide you grab too much air and gas tank also to wide.
Put 2500$ into a bike that was only worth 2500$ to start with You can find mint shape shadows for under 3,000$ these days. Even 6 years ago you could too
I'm really debating between buying a 2000 vt1000c3 or a vtx1300...the shadow is near my aera while the vtx is 250km from here....I'm worried that the power wont be enough on the shdow..Opinions?
I'm also 6'2 (I'm the owner of the Aero in this video) and it fits me just fine. As a matter of fact I can stretch my legs out just a little more that the '96 ACE.
Hello, I have a honda shadow vt 1100 c3 aero 1999. Where can I get the front drop frame on this type of motorcycle? In the Czech Republic I can not get. Thank you very much. David ( And sorry for my English.)
Amazing motorcycles!! I bought a 1999 with the somerset orange/antique white color combo after my first deployment. Oh, and I bet that dude that drove by shit himself as you honked the horn 😂

Is that the single pin crank engine? Looks and sounds great.
@@gphilipc2031 Don't know for sure but it sounds like it is.
So how's does it compare to your old bike
@@louisvilaros9066 Not quite as nimble handling as the '96 ACE, but runs smoother.

Good review. Hope someone smart bought that bike from you. I found an excellent '98 black/grey out here on the west coast. Best bike I've ever owned.
"Turn signals work beautifully." Noice.
Now I've got one I'm looking out for more, just very cool.
Very low maintenance and very reliable.

That was the same color scheme I had.
I have the same bike, I just went to the garage to sit on it and talk to her😉

You'll be fine with either one. I do like the carb being on the side of the 1300 tho, just easier to get to.
