It is extremely difficult to bring an American car to Europe and sell it. There are differences in legal requirements on the car (lighting, for example) that need to be adjusted first, before it can be EU type approved. Working on your own car is allowed in the Netherlands. But, cars get more complicated because of efficiency and environmental standards every year. So, yeah.... However, in most municipalities you are not allowed to work on your car in public spaces. So you need to do it on your private land. Small repairs, well, I don't think anybody will bother about that. Do not underestimate what the guy said in the video. The housing situation is insanely bad. The market is insanely expensive, both for renting and for buying (buying appartments is quite common). This housing shortage is even worse than in most other western societies. The weather is not what the video said, we have generally no severe winters and pleasant summers. It is wet and windy on more days than you would like and we live at a northern latitude, so seasonal daylight conditions are quite extreme, not as bad as in Scandinavia, but almost. On the flip side, there is barely any unemployment, wages are okay, and for immigrants coming under the DAFT treaty there is (I think) a lower tax regime, if it still exists. Under the DAFT treaty, if you have a livable income and some saved money from you TH-cam channel, you could relocate to the Netherlands and obtain a residency permit (not a citizenship!) very easily. First time is one or two years, next time is five years. You are OK as long as you earn your own income. You could use that time to learn the language and learn for the "inburgeringsexamen" (citizenship exams) and become a citizen with all the rights involve on social security etc. You don't need to give up US citizenship. Generally the Netherlands demands that you give up your old nationality, but the US is exempt from that rule because it costs a lot of money to do that. Well, it still is a hell of a bureaucracy, but there are Americans who did it and made youtube videos about that process. It is a well defined process and the art of going through it is to have all the details right (like apostolising). Oh and the musquitoes, well, in some wet places they can be a nuisance, but it differs from place to place a lot. Generally not nearly as bad as the Scandinavian forests, haha.
European fuel has a higher octane number; so an imported car has to be adjusted to that. We Dutchies don't ask for the manager; we are not Karens. In the Netherlands the best time to buy your first home is 27 years before you are conceived.
If you realy want to come and live in the Netherlands you have to learn Dutch, we speak Eeenglish to tourists but real expats who life here are expected to speak Dutch !
@@americangirlreacts I learn Danish as a Dutchy in a class setting and on duolingo. @fadema123 It does work for vocabulary, although you need more vocabulary to be able to live a normal life. Duolingo does not teach gramar and pronunciation properly. I have seen many video's of people who moved to the Netherlands and met quite some immigrants and a lot of then think they speak perfect Dutch, but are hard to understand. Many Americans who 'speak dutch fluently' are understood because people know English too since they use English word order and mix too many English words through their Dutch.

With regards to importing cars... When you import a used car into the Netherlands, you must pay a hefty tax on it. You can be exempt from that tax if you're moving to the Netherlands and bringing along your own vehicle(s), but those vehicle(s) must have been in your possession for six months prior to moving to the Netherlands, and remain in your possession for another six months after the move. If you sell it before that time is up, you have to pay that import tax. (Source: I moved from France to the Netherlands in 2008 and brought my car along. Rules since then may have changed a bit - I mean, it's not like it's something you'd regularly look up...)
You can do maintenance to your own car and modify it if you like but it has to be safe acording to the rules, and get trough axamination (apk) every one or two years depending on it's age. If it does not pass, the car is not alowed on the road.
Interesting video. Some things are correct and some are not. I don't know if you heard it correctly. He said single people pay 36% tax rate AND a married couple with 2 kids pay a lower rate of 29% in the Netherlands. He said they do that as to help the parents have more money to use on the kids. Questions you asked: Mosquitos: nothing crazy, most of the water is moving water. The Neds are essentially a drained swamp though, so yeah possibly more than average. Bike theft: obviously this is common, just make sure you lock it well. Housing: most people seek to buy, rental places are usually unfurnished, most people live in row houses or semi-detached. Cars: you can work on your vehicle if you own it, it has to pass a yearly test though so botch jobs will cause issues. Beyond that video has two opinions that seem weird to me. Customer service in NL is not abnormally bad or slow and not learning Dutch is generally just not an issue, there are thousands of people getting by just fine with just English, but yeah you will miss out on large parts of the culture.
simple things you can do with your car when it comes to maintenence like change spark plugs change oil and filters etc etc but the bigger work and repairs you have to go to a service garage or dealership or find a mechanic that would work on your car
Mosquitos hate 2 things: running water and wind. In The Netherlands we have both. We have a lot of foreigners working in the company and they all speak perfect Dutch. You'll also have problems when shopping at local stores and communicating with the government. Don't try to tip me to get better service. I will just put a service charge on your bill. Go to a job interview and arrive late, you won't get the jobbecause it will probably reflect on your work discipline.
3:29 There is a difference between speaking language and being able to speak about complex concepts. An other point many people miss is that in Dutch culture someone who want something should speak the language of whom they want to have something. It means that Dutch companies tend to use the language of the person they want to buy from or sell too, but impies that if you are coming to the Netherlands and thus botter the Dutch, it is percieved as impolite to just demand people to speak your language. People are unlikely to tell you directly, but it is likely people will talk about it behind your back.
You are allowed to work on your own car, you can even build it yourself but once a year there is APK, a mandatory examination. Original Dutch are easy to become friends with and will soon invite you to their house (In de USA I was never asked at someone's house). A lot of the inhabitants of the larger cities are not Dutch so habits become different.
Their are waiting list for rental or buying homes . Also to even be alowd on such a waiting list , you must fall under very strict approval rules and regulations . And when put on a waiting list the first time , it’s normal it will take 15 to 20 years before you have moved up on the list to the point rental or house sale organizations will contact you whit offers . There can be given priority to you , but your situation must be very dire before ever being considers a priority . And even then know there are a biljoen more priorities whit you on the priority list . Therefor it still is the same waiting list , same waiting times but under a different name to give you the illusion you have priority . And when buying , do know it’s normal to pay at least 3 times the price that has bin akst , as you are not the only or priority buyer . House sell/buy market is in fact an auction , not he/she who first comes is first served like a line in store for the checkout counter . You be battling other buyers who often have more money to offer , and easy overbid any by at least 5 times . Also landlords , rend organizations and sellers rather rent out or sell to Dutch people then foreigners . A few ecxeptionds but only when you have plenty of money to keep the Dutch happy on a monthly basses of mandatory payments , mandatory subscription payments ect.
First of all, love your hair like this. And some things are not foor the whole of the Netherlands. In the eastern part near the German border, rent and houseprisesare much lower. And you can also easily shop your groceries and gasoline in Germany, where it is cheaper. And also, if you introduce yourself to your neighbors, you could find new friends as well. This by the way count in the whole of the Netherlands. And in this video he was right about some things but a lot he missed the whole essents. And also I think a lot of us Dutchies would consider you guys our friends if you came here.❤
why have a car in the Netherlands, you have fresh products within walking distance every day .for 60 dollars you have a bicycle you let Charly cycle you put an arm around his stomach while you sit on the back and let the wind blow through your hair and let a man of 1 meter and 93 cm guide you through the traffic

In the summer you have mosquito's, but I don't think it''s more then in countries with less water. Bikes get stolen often, but it also depents on what kind of bike you have and because there are so many bikes the chance that it your bike is smaller haha. People who are low income often can't affort to buy a house/apartment. People with higher incomes sometimes buy and sometimes rent. with renting if something breaks down the person you're renting from has to pay for it, when you buy a house you have to pay it yourself. That's a risk not everyone is willing to take. You can work on your own car, but ones a year or something like that you need to have it inspected and if there's something important wrong with it you can't drive with it untill they have it fixed.
Mosquito's are not exessive, because there are a lot of fish that eat their larvae, but never leave stagnant water anywhere, for you will be eaten alive. Horsellies can be horrible in some places in summer. They can drive you mad.
Tax rate for single people is 36% , tax rate for married couples whit children is 29% . Wich is a tax rate discount of 7% . Being married whit Children , is cheaper in tax rate then when being single .
You don’t pay tax from the first euro you earn, depending on how much you make, you can get a discount ( Goes automaticly via your employer), its called ‘ arbeidskorting/ heffingskorting’. And if your income is low, you can get subsidie for your health insurance and your rent (when in social housing). Taken your car with you is only a good idea when its a expensive one. Paying a container for shipping (€1500 i gues) for a 3 or 5000€ car makes no sense. Take in mind that everything with a electric wire on it will not work here, we have 230 volt, not 110… you don’t have to move that. Getting all the things you need for your house is not so expensive if you don’t have the need to have it all brand new, there are alternatives for that but that’s for later.
Muggen? Leven in stil staat water. Hier is er altijd een beetje stroming. En bijna iedereen heeft een minimaal zijn zwemdiploma A. Ik heb A,B,C. En Reddings zwemmen. Met mijn A,zwemdiploma. kreeg ik mijn eerste bootje.
Yes, we know English, but we don't wanna speak English the whole time. When you are with a group of Dutch people, they will speak Dutch with each other. Also when you are a long time in The Netherlands and you can't speak Dutch, we shall look strange to you and you will get comments
In summer there can be some musquitos but this is not really a country whre they thrive. Yes it is wet, it is also relative cold. It really is only the height of summer they get somewhat annoying, all two days of it. Yes most of us speak Englsih to a fair degree. But unlike some other countries, we do not make any efforts (aside from airports) to have multilingual signage. You can talk to the people but without knowledge of the language you will have a hard time navigating streets and official business. Customer Service: That is a load of horse manure. I have never ever in my live waited "weeks" for a reply from any Dutch customer service. Customer Support tickets send to American companies however...... As for "25 people in line", that is also cow excrement, if it is busy you get a message that you better call another time if you don't like to waste that time. And "the manager"... you don't tget to speak to the manager just like that, we know how to deal with Karens overhere. Housing: Housing shortages are worldwide and are artifically kept up in order to be able to ask higher prices and make sure "the right people live in the right neighborhoods" If there was "enough housing" (there actually is enough, just look around you how many homes and other buildings are mysteriously not rented or sold out) they couldn't ask 1200 for a two room appartment. Besides that, people moving to the Netherlands are stuck to the private sector wich is twice as much at least as the non private sector most Dutch can use. And yes... we buy our own stuff... why would I want to live in a house and sleep on a bed that is not my own and that I have to be careful with because IT IS NOT MINE. Car: Good thing you actually don't need one here. 8:01 What the hay is he talking about, there is not a country on earth where the government has been as effective of getting people out of a car than the Netherlands. And I am sure Americans go to Mexico every day to buy a cheap car and sell it for profit in the USA right? Or are there maybe some rules in place that will make it not really worth the effort? 9:00 I am starting to get annoyed at this misinformation. It is not hard to make friends, But you have to put some effort in it, just as with any other type of relationship. no we do not "live by our agenda", Yes in most regions it is perfectly normal to hop unanounced by a friend, no we are not spending most of our time inside. "the Dutch are known for their warm and welcoming nature" That is in direct contradiction with everything he just said. Weather: What is the weather in the Netherlands: Well today it is cloudy What is the weather in America: Well... in the North there is a blizzard, in the middle there are hrricanes oh and in the South we have a heatwave. Taxes: Those parents with their two children are not flatout "taxed 29%". there is loads of nuance to that. For example low incomes will get "kinderbijslag" (child support) from the government, ways to help pay rent, medical bills, school etc.
14:00 Bussen en treinen optijd? Mijn trein rijdt een paar keer per maand niet, soms meerdere keren in de week. Dan heb ik het nog niet over de vertragingen. Wat een leugens.😂
We are one of the highest english speaking people in the world of none english desend. So why he says you need to learn Dutch is something I dont understand. When it comes to the rest of the video id BS most of it. I just think this guy or the guy that hired this guy has a problem with us. Living depends on how fast you want a roof over your head. I always had small houses and im happy rent is on the low side. Cars same thing the bigger the car the more you pay, the smaller te car the less you pay and I can keep on and on. On this
English is not spoken in our office. We're all Dutch. You say you brought a vehicle and sold it for a higher price? From where to where? Are you an international car trader? I simply don't believe you! And the constant e-begging. "Pleaaaaase subscribe!"
Ik werk bij een Prefab beton fabriek in Nederland. We zijn nu ook begonnen met een appartementencomplex. In Amsterdam. €500.000,- voor 50 m2. En de grootste voor €1.2 miljoen. Maar het complex heeft wel een eigen daktuin. Wie? Wil er nog in Holland wonen? Groetjes uit Bunschoten-Spakenburg.
what bullshit in that video, you can get anything, ask, etc. you want with the English language. and you will automatically learn Dutch if you live there for a while. Is that person an anti-Netherlands person?... what does he mean waiting for weeks for an email?... this whole movie is completely wrong. the housing shortage is due to the government that lets in everyone from countries where it is ''difficult'', such as the people from Ukraine who drive around here with their expensive cars (no joke).....and they get money, shelter , clothes, and don't have to do much else.
second that whole statement, and our packages are not left at the door like in the states, they are deliverd to your door and given to you, if not home they give it to the neighbours and leave a notification for you at which neighbour you can pick up your package, or they bring it to a service station where you can pick it up yourself
People buy apartments, just like people buy houses! No difference. I would advise that even if you just are going to live here for like 5 years and if you can afford it, to buy a house. Prices go up continuously so you will probably not loose money on the property whilst hiring a house all your input is just lost.
you name me 5 benefits of being married ??!!! as i see non ........ no need to be married to be together nor to have kids.... it is just a bloody rip off
This could've been an interesting video but the monotone and uncharismatic way of speaking you have makes it impossible for me to keep paying attention. If you don't see interested in the topic then your audience won't either.
Also interupting the video every few secs and in the middle of a sentence. Then commenting to find out what's up if she'd just listened a bit longer. There is this other one, Ryan wutzer or something like that, constantly hits pause and come up with assumptions before he listens. Extremely annoying.

Amy, I liked your reaction, but the original video is really bad. Unfortunately that's the standard for the learning canteen channel.
Muggen? Leven in stil staat water. Hier is er altijd een beetje stroming. En bijna iedereen heeft een minimaal zijn zwemdiploma A. Ik heb A,B,C. En Reddings zwemmen. Met mijn A,zwemdiploma. kreeg ik mijn eerste bootje.
Mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water, most of the water here is flowing water ( nice Video BTW )
Thank you So much! Just one more thing I love. I can't hardly be outside without spraying myself in Indiana, id get bit alive. Take care!!❤
Yes, we know English, but we don't wanna speak English the whole time.
When you are with a group of Dutch people, they will speak Dutch with each other.
Also when you are a long time in The Netherlands and you can't speak Dutch, we shall look strange to you and you will get comments
We have mosquitoes but compared to some of the northern states in the USA it’s peanuts. I’m comparing with Minnesota and Wisconsin.
I would not live in the randstad. It is more expensive there and to many people. Friesland, groningen, limburg are cheaper and les popilated.
Bedankt
Weather: What is the weather in the Netherlands: Well today it is cloudy
What is the weather in America: Well... in the North there is a blizzard, in the middle there are hrricanes oh and in the South we have a heatwave.
On this
Maybe because it is satire?
English is not spoken in our office. We're all Dutch. You say you brought a vehicle and sold it for a higher price? From where to where? Are you an international car trader? I simply don't believe you! And the constant e-begging. "Pleaaaaase subscribe!"
Ik werk bij een Prefab beton fabriek in Nederland. We zijn nu ook begonnen met een appartementencomplex. In Amsterdam.
Most of the winter video shown is not in the Nederland i am 74 en never seen so match snow
For the ground to be that steep it must be in Zuid-Limburg, but in particular that region a snow layer of several decimeter thick won't create.
You can't work on modern cars, too complicated.
Yeah, I see that. Nobody carries the special wrenches for it either. Then it could take up to a week to get. its a whole thing
what bullshit in that video, you can get anything, ask, etc. you want with the English language. and you will automatically learn Dutch if you live there for a while.
To cold for mosquitoes 🥸👍👍🌺
Looking beautiful today, my compliments 🥸👍👍
No, we don't have much musqito's
I'm in love already.
you name me 5 benefits of being married ??!!! as i see non ........ no need to be married to be together nor to have kids.... it is just a bloody rip off
Hello Amy, have you seen my email with the invitation to Poland? :)
This could've been an interesting video but the monotone and uncharismatic way of speaking you have makes it impossible for me to keep paying attention.
If you don't see interested in the topic then your audience won't either.
Think she's high af
Also interupting the video every few secs and in the middle of a sentence. Then commenting to find out what's up if she'd just listened a bit longer. There is this other one, Ryan wutzer or something like that, constantly hits pause and come up with assumptions before he listens. Extremely annoying.
Watch defcon 2022 23 ..
So many faults it is an abomanation to watch
Jo der er...

It is full of inaccuracies, i am Dutch, so i should know..@@americangirlreacts
Mosquitos are only in still water, but most water in the netherlands is flowing :) 2:44
