I love how Nolan has one distinct theme which connects each of his projects together. It's been over two decades since Memento was released, which is the first movie of his I ever saw. The unconventional way it was told cemented him as one of my all time favourite directors.
From *Memento* to *The Prestige* to *The Dark Knight* to *Inception* to *Interstellar* to *Oppenheimer* - its amazing how you can come across so many different fans of Nolan & factions of those people can describe why each is Nolan's best. Whatever your choice is, I'm sure we can agree that we hope he doesn't stop making these films that make us think & feel anytime soon.
Agreed! MY favorite is The Prestige because of how he kept telling us the plot twist throughout the movie but we just didn't want to hear/see it although he TOLD us to pay close attention in the beginning of the movie.
The editing in Dunkirk is bloody brilliant. Especially the sound editing. Which is strange for a Nolan movie, but this is the one case it works. I feel.
I wouldn’t say his sound editing in general is bad, it’s just sometimes it gets a little too drowned out in his style that it eventually just come across as “bad”.

I think that's just more down to compatibility, personality and chemistry between actors and directors. Statham and Ritchie, Tarantino and Sam L. Jackson are 2 pairs I can think of where I just know these guys have the time of their lives between shoots
I love the fact that with the invention of video and dvd, and now streaming, we can go forward and backwards in movie time whilst still moving through reality time. Movies assist us to go back in time via our memory of when we might have first watched a particular movie, whilst affording new perspectives about a movie by us moving with time as we grow older. Both reliving those times that have passed, as well as living in the present moment.
Talking about Nolan, I will ask you to research on his layered scripts. It's happening every single time. U r going to watch a movie with some expectation, u r watching with another different goal, and at the end u just watch some movie u don't understand . Example 1 - in Interstellar, everyone was excited to see the blackhole scene, the main goal was to find a suitable planet, the solution of the equation, and after the end, the simplest idea was a story of father daughter relationship. Example 2 - in Inception, everyone was amazed to the concept of dreams within dreams. The main plot was to plant an idea, but at the end, the movie was simply about to let go off the dead wife and forgive yourself. In conclusion, Nolan's films are supposed to be big, detailed and complex. But inside the plot, there is a simple seed, a simple idea the actually makes the story relevant.
Now let's do, Scorsese and his obsession with swear words 😆 Anyways, I truly wish we have more filmmakers like Nolan, the way his movies make you think, make you broaden your horizons, the way he engages you into the stories, is just something else.

Was hoping you were going to add Oppenheimer’s time sequence up here but I’m guessing it is too soon , I have watched it 3 times and I still get a little confused with the time jumps in that movie 😂.
Great vid! I liked insomnia because in that one the main character can’t sleep because the sun never goes down. Effectively making the day feel like it’s lasting forever and time is not changing even as characters go about their lives. 🎉
Even Insomnia uses time in its central narrative. Losing sleep means experiencing all the time available, and how going through that effects the mind and body. Time is relative, and being awake for days would feel very slow and be a detriment, which is what the film shows.

Time and time travel are some of my favorite elements in movies and why I love Nolan and James Cameron so much. Memento still makes my brain hurt but not in a bad/annoying way like Tenet. IMHO, Inception and Interstellar strike that perfect balance between high concept, action and character. We relate and root for Cobb and Cooper. Nobody really cares about the protagonist in Tenet, they didn't even bother giving him a name, family, background or motivation. I know that Nolan is all about the "concept" so whoever is in the script room or on set pushing Nolan to add more character and story, give that guy a raise.
My personal favorite twin stories were tv shows: Babylon 5 and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Both very similar in their epic scope yet creating their own strong, respective universes.

I've never found the "cold and emotionless" characters in Nolan movies a problem in any way. People these days care way too much about origins, motivations and that goddamn relatability. Its the Marvel poison leaking out of superhero movies and into everything else.
I love Christopher Nolan, I've watched all his movies, but Inception is not original. Idea of entering peoples minds was already done in Satoshi Kon's Paprika from 2006. Definite recommendations for it.
In regards to The Prestige, SPOILER for The Prestige do not read if you want to watch it, it's worth noting that the story telling there also isn't told linearly as the bulk of the movie is told through the two main character reading each others journals/diaries at different points in their lives and how the reality of the story alters once we see the vail of lies the story is told through as both diaries are a deception. Man that movie is so freaking good!
It’s time (see what I did there?) for Nolan to do a Monster movie. A giant monster arrives from the future and terrorizes a city or region. A team must go into the future to figure out how to prevent the monster from arriving in the first place.
I feel like a lot of the blame can fall on Warner Bros. They've been creatively bankrupt for decades and just constantly remake, rerelease, and rehash Batman, Scooby Doo, and Harry Potter over and over for all eternity because it's comfort food for everyone

Nolan is trying to play God but no matter how he tries he's never right but rather a concept. He can't make a film intellectually sound without a twist or completed ending Always leavinng it to the audience. If he does James Bond. It will be frustrating not having an ending
