  • This is the maiden flight video of the Eachine Razor. I test both stabilization and return to home of the Eachine FC in this video. This is very simple flight controller with NO settings options other than radio calibration, board level, and battery voltage. No pots, no gains, no reversing.
    Watch the video to see how things worked out!

      The key I think is to make a decision. I'll have a story for the Livestream Friday on this.

    I have this Eachine Razor and my tip is; every time before you take off calibrate the GPS (sticks under/ outwards) till the ailerons and 3 beeps give you the information the Eachine Razor has locked on to the GPS satellites. Do this every time even when you change out the battery off the plane!!!!. If you don't do this your in for a nasty surprise if you switch to return to home!!!. PS i know because it happened to me and there was not much left of the plane. I have bought a new one and because i calibrate the GPS every flight i haven't crashed the Eachine Razor again.

      I'm sure that was it because we were talking about the launch assist and after I plugged in I realized I had the GPS puck upside down on the bench. But since I had a helper, I just buttoned it up and had him chuck it. The first flight GPS locked and performed perfectly. Good lesson to catch on video.

  • @TheLostSquadron

    Was anxious to see your results. I bought one of these and commented on your live build about the lousy stabilizer setup info and feeling like mine was going to fly away. My circumstances were a bit different than yours, I did a manual launch on the second flight and when I hit the RTH mode the plane continued away from me WAY out of my comfort zone. It was a gray day, and a small white plane starts disappearing pretty quick. I *hope* it was a GPS lock issue like you experienced, I haven't hand a chance to try it again. I did verify the flight controller LED's on the bench indicating all the modes were working correctly.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My first flight had RTH work fine. The second flight I didn't verify GPS lock and I know I powered it with the GPS puck upside down on the bench. RTH should be repeatedly tested until you are 100% comfortable with the results.

      Just take it one step at a time. First: Fly the plane. Make sure it flies the way it should. Second: Test stab and RTH. Make sure they work the way they should. TEST TEST TEST. Finally: Add video. Make sure it works the way it should by having someone else go on goggles while you fly the plane. When you're satisfied the video works and all the prior steps work, then go on goggles.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm confident the reason is because it didn't have a lock. When I set this one up, I had the puck upside down on the bench and didn't think much of it. In any event, the plane is broken down and in a box on the way to the next owner.

    • @RCVideoReviews

      It's always better to start with your surfaces centered mechanically. You can use radio options, but you usually give something up like resolution or travel. If you can center it with the servos on and centered, do that.

    Did you fly it with Li-Ion battery? I found that it draws way more than 5 A on a full throttle - which causes battery internal controller to trigger overcurrent protection... Or - no BMC, no problem?

    Hi John. Great review (as always). I wonder if you could help me with one thing. I have a spare ZOHD Kopilot lite around (3 in use already) I wonder if it could be used for an ICE plane (either Nitro or Petrol) The plane is standard 4 channel AETR. I am bit worried about throttle operating by Kopilot...
    Thanks a million !!

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't see why not. I'm not familiar with the intricacies of throttle trim for ICE planes, so you'll want to verify that operation, but as far as I know, the Kopilot never moved throttle below 50% in RTH mode during my testing. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

    • @michalp.4975
      @michalp.4975 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RCVideoReviews I was thinking about it for a while and I can see 2 possible options.
      1: have the pwm channel 3 disconnected from the KP and have the servo connected directly to the RX.
      2 use it with KP and let it control the throttle, but it might be tricky do the trims for the throttle so it operates just between the minimum open carburettor and full open.

  • @theoztreecrasher2647

    RE that flying too far away before turning at auto launch. I believe it was working correctly. You can't spin up the motor in Stabilize or RTH without the GPS locked. (Though I'd give it a few extra seconds to crank the tally up a bit from the usual minimum 6/7 ;-) )
    What catches many folks out is the behaviour of Kopilot (it seems this is a variation of the original unit) near the ground. At auto launch (or on RTH) if the plane is under 35m above the height the barometer senses at boot up, Kopilot sets the plane to fly out straight and level at a steady climb until it reaches 35m and only then does it start to turn for home, continues to climb up to 70m, returns and circles home. Lots of "It just flew away!" :( "But then it came back!" :)
    Seems a pretty good plane but with our propensity to stuff things into the landscape, lighties like the Volante/Eachine V761 minis and pushers or wings like my AR Mini seem more suitable for us geriatrics. :D

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The GPS wasn't locked. On the launch it headed South, on the subsequent attempt it headed East. On the first flight it turned West at the flight line. It definitely did not have a lock.
