    Thank you so much for this. As a 5’1” woman I am getting discouraged about finding a sports bike to ride. Most lower bikes are cruisers and as much as I can appreciate them, im more interested in something a bit more sporty.
    Im sure ill start on something low, but I have a few bikes in mind that are around 32in seat heights.

      Hi Liz, Thank you for your message. It's easy to see why people advise against taller bikes, it's coming from a good place. However, this also holds everybody at a limit that is self imposed. Your plan sounds right, start with something small. Safety first. Learn a bike to the point when it becomes your extension, when it seems that you just think and the bike does it for you. After that you can start working on the skills necessary for a taller bike. Good luck!

    I just got back to riding after 50 years, so basically I had to re learn to ride again,
    you are correct, is all about the technic, I am not flat foot it on my interceptor either but I am doing it.
    My friends think I am crazy, what a great example you gave with the short guy video you showed, it said it all. love your channel Lana, one of the best if not the best, please make more of them, specially on low speed maneuvering, thank you very much

    I too am short with only a 28" inseam yet the bike pictured in my profile is 2006 Ninja 650R seat height 30.5" with no give in the suspension. This was my favorite bike so far, I rode it nearly every day. The next bike I want is a Kawasaki Z650RS ( a "standard" bike) seat height is 31.5" .You have helped me to realize I can still do it, with practice of course. Thanks Again

    Thanks Lana. I am 5”1 and have started on a cb125f. Seat height 792mm but quite a wide seat. I have basically had to learn to ride with just my toe touching ground. I think that has helped me learn quicker even though it has been quite uncomfortable and scary! Looking forward to my second bike and seat height won’t be a determining factor.

    Thank you so much for making this video. You actually relieved me because I had already thought of a motorbike that I wanted but my height and inseam were bothering me and I started having doubts of buying it in the future because I would probably either tip toe on it or not reach the ground at all but it's a 125cc with 79 cm seat height and 17.6 cm distance from the ground , and based of my inseam and height it's not for me. But this video helped me so I'll rethink of buying it because it'll be my first experience riding a motorbike by myself and I want to do it so bad.

    • @LanaOnWheels
      @LanaOnWheels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Please watch the whole video: I say almost the same exact thing there. Almost - because hours are not enough. You need to train for weeks and months to ride safely.

  • @atilathesonofdanubius4277
    @atilathesonofdanubius4277 ปีที่แล้ว

    It doesn't matter as much if you are riding a less than 650 lbs. bike. The heavier the bike, the more control you have to exercise on that foot. The slightest wind can knock you off that foot.

    • @LanaOnWheels
      @LanaOnWheels  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This comment oversimplifies the physics so much that it's no longer meaningful. To understand which motorcycle is easier to control, and which one is more difficult, you can't look at the weight alone. Its center of gravity, height, geometry - everything has an effect. My 1250 GS weighs less than most Harley Davidson cruisers - would you suggest that an HD is more prone to falling over?

    • @atilathesonofdanubius4277
      @atilathesonofdanubius4277 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LanaOnWheels No, what I'm suggesting is that generally the person having that problem is a shorter person, therefore, more susceptible to a heavy bike flipping on its side if things are not completely flat or perfect. A lighter bike of course would be much easier to control even if things are not ideal.

    • @LanaOnWheels
      @LanaOnWheels  ปีที่แล้ว

      And again I propose to look at heavy cruisers. Shorter people have no more difficulty handling them than taller ones. Weight alone means nothing.

    You on the Yamaha WR 250R is me on my front and back lowered Ninja 300🤣
    For reference I’m 4’9.5” (146.05cm) with an inseam of 26” (66.04cm), and my lowered Ninja 300 has a seat height of 28” (71.12cm).
    I’ve watched your Lesson 5 Cowboy Mount and Lesson 6 Long Cowboy Mount videos just earlier, and plan to practice those skills on my Ninja, so hopefully one day I can ride a non lowered bike or even a 600cc in the future!

      hey, can I ask u something? Have you tried riding cruiser bikes of height 765mm? I also have inseam height of 26 inches, so I was worried about my foot on the ground. I don't want to have flat foot on the ground, I just want my foot to be a bit comfortable on the ground so that when a passenger sits on the bike, I could handle the weight with my foot or when I have to turn my bike back, I can do it with ease on my foots.

    Would you reccomend someone who is short buying their first bike ever and learning how to ride it not flat footing it?

    • @LanaOnWheels
      @LanaOnWheels  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      no, I would not. This would slow down learning basic riding skills. A novice needs this safety cushion to learn how to ride, to turn, and to stop. Once basic skills are acquired, then it's fine to move to a tall bike. I consider this a part of advanced skills. I share more thoughts on this topic in another epizode. th-cam.com/video/etqqzJ06R90/w-d-xo.html
