Sadly InfiRay not only spammed the EEVblog forum and created sockpuppet accounts and fake reviews, but then they lied about it when called out. I wanted to look at their stuff but I just can't do it now after that experience.
I wonder are they one of those companies who send their product to all possible youtubers for free for "review"? I kind of hate "discount codes" because they kind of force youtuber make positive review or nobody will use their code and then they don't get money.
@@Whigu Yes, I was approached by Infiray marketing directly several times, and also by an Amazon reseller, both offering a free unit for review. But after my exerience with them I told them to bugger off, I don't tolerate liars. They also had the balls to offer to buy advertising on my forum after I banned them. I told them to bugger off.
@@EEVblog I was also contacted by them, several times, from different email addresses, that almost looked like scam attempts. The product might be good, but the way the handle the campaign is quite sketchy.
@@Whigu They sent me one, but I still gave an honest review. I don't make any money from the "discount codes" and they didn't pay me. The only thing I got was the camera and it's not like they are going to ask for it back. If it was crap, I would say it was crap and I actually brought up a few negative points with their software.
Great Video Julian, they seem to be good cameras. I found seeing the solar panels with it quite interesting. Infiray sent me one too, so I did a comparison against the FLIR thermal camera that I repaired and it has a much better resolution (256x192 compared to 80x60) and frame rate (25fps compared to 9fps) so I'll be using it in preference to the FLIR. Keep up the great work👍
I like this thing, always wanted a thermal imager. The price is reasonable if you consider the market. I want to like it more but the app has a few privacy concerns, namely the location request and it's origin. I'd have to get a dedicated device just for this. I don't want it on the same device as my important apps, or even account for that matter.
Solar cells transfer energy to electrical power, hence it makes sense that they actively cool themselves, compared to a cell which isn't working. This is effectively a good way to check for bad cells.
An interesting video. Thank you. That camera certainly exposes things we would not normally see, and can lead to a deeper understanding of things around us. Imsai Guy did a video on the same camera and he was showing doggy footprints left behind by Imsai Dog as he walked around the house. Pretty cool. Cheers from Canada :-)
I have a FLIR One Pro and this is better - MUCH higher framerate, and that macro capability is amazing. I'm going to order one. I only get like 4-5 fps on mine. Like a fast slide show. Also it's really flaky about connecting to the app and actually starting up. Super annoying actually. And it has its own battery that needs to be charged separately, which is stupid because it doesn't last very long, so I have to run it with a USB-C cable connected to it and a battery. Really awkward.
@@ColinFox Yeah I have the same experience with my Flir One Pro... sometimes it disconnects and I have to take it out and restart the app. Also - the framerate isn't good and the temperature readings are quite inaccurate.
I compared one of these recently against my FLIR camera (which uses the lepton 2.5 sensor), and I like the Infiray better. The image is a lot better (10x more pixels) and also the frame rate 25fps compared to 9fps.
I don't know about Julian's situation, but Infiray contacted me directly and offered a unit for free for review. I was also offered another unit for free for review from an Amazon dealer. They don't usually want to see or approve your content, so it's usually just a "yeah send me one and I might review it" kinda deal. Some companies do offer actual paid reviews, and then they usually want to control your content and message. In the case of a free unit, reviewers are free to rubbish the product if they wish.
@@JulianIlett Well, it's not really nice to do that this way. It's quite ambiguous and covers a wide range of possibilities concerning the exact deal. Being more explicit about the conditions of the test is always appreciated. So many "influencers" constantly surf the limit of honesty...
@@EEVblog I don't totally agree with you. If advertisement was ineffective, companies would not spend millions. You can't control your brain. It's like for optical illusions: even if you know it's there, the illusion still works. So when you receive a gift, you'll have a tendency to be softer even if you try to avoid that. And even if you succeed, on average it works and another reviewer will be overly optimistic. Concerning the product, after reading your comments about the eevblog forum events, I'm a bit suspicious. Last point: as you have not bought the product like everyone, they could have send you a cherry picked one. Devil's advocate mode: Maybe an ordinary customer will have a sensor with 50% of dead cells (and the software hides that by interpolation so it's not necessarily obvious after a 2 minutes test).
The sole reason for me not buying it right now is apple finally changing to USB-C and ending up with a device that is no longer compatible with my phone in a couple of years.
You could always just have a spare phone that you just use with the device, I know it may not be the most convenient thing having another phone to carry around but it does have the advantage of not getting interruptions like texts or calls coming in when you are using it.
Truck me John £325 and it posts fake reviews - see below. There is sooooooo much of this dishonesty around. Careful with your reputation J we are following you fro your experience and frankness
USB-C is gonna be around for a long time and there are things called adapters. I have an old one that's micro-b connector and just slap a small adapter to usb-c.
@@mc_cpu Yes, I did a review of it recently and show it working on a PC. It just shows the image in B&W but it is thermal. It just detects the device as a webcam. Someone wrote some PC software for it too "IRCAM Thermal Viewer", as they sent me an email but I think it was around $89

I've just bought P2 Pro for about one month, it impressed me a lot.
Note: You can connect that camera to PC, too and there are at least 3 different windows apps for it.
Performance is impressive, especially at night, with clear and smooth images
I can’t wait until these come down to $100 for this resolution this will help battery builders so much and could prevent so many fires
it will never go down to $100 and even by then it prob be outdated

This is a wonderful device, but can it pick up cold streams or leaks inside a walls that's my question as a plumber.
As long as the temperature difference is detectable on the surface of the wall, it should work. A thermal imaging camera can't see inside walls.

Is that just a theory or proved? Some people disagree I asked last year.
InfiniRay has many youtubers making a review, but no one dismantled one at al....
The thing is USD 300… so if it is a sponsored video or on loan I reckon they don’t want to ruin it.
Mikeselectricstuff has dismantled one
There isn't much to see in compact cameras like this, they all look rather similar.
I am looking at this for a while, but would not use enough to justify the cost :)
I have one, too. It is a very useful tool for me to troubleshoot in my daily work.
Getting mine today, looks like great little product

what model would suit for looking at night time sky ?
I can easily imagine a future where this feature comes stock on all smartphones!
"Doogee S98 Pro" has it but i guess if phone dies no more thermal camera.
I think bigclive just reviewed a phone which has this exact camera built in, along with a IR camera too!
A nice alternative is the topdon tc001. Great resolution. USB-C and no battery in the camera
non-replacable battery in the camera is why I returned the android flirOne
That's a nice module. BigClive just reviewed the DOOGEE S98 Pro for $300. It's a phone with a high res thermal imager, and an infrared camera.
I recently got a similar mileseey IR camera for only 180 euro it does not have the macrolens, but otherwise works quite fine.
awesome product for a fair price. great framerate also.
I made a micro usb to usb c converter for my Flir. it now has a cable. maybe need an 😊upgrade
I try cinese otg usb microusb-usbc cable and didnt work , is necessary to use handmade cable or there is something ready on the market?

Does anyone know if the USB C variant works with the USB C iPads? The app is available on the iPad.
what! no Banana for scale?
